Main Points: Delivery was delayed over two weeks. Quoted price increased significantly. Customer Service was atrocious. Inconvenience and damage claim was rescinded due to my factual review on Angie’s List. \r \r Specifics:\r Our first delivery estimate was 4-7 days and our second was 7-9 days (6/28-7/2). Our belongings were finally delivered on Sunday, 7/7/13, 18 days later. For a week, AMS could not tell us where our items are nor when they will be delivered. \r \r We contracted with America's Moving Services for $3250 for 7000 pounds. We were very happy with the sales service provided by Marquis. All of our questions were answered and we felt we knew what we were purchasing. (They were one of three quotes. One quote was with Mayflower and was guarantee quote for 4000 pounds, meaning you’d not get charged any more than that price which was $4200. The other was a quote for 4000 pounds with Mullen for $3100.) We didn't know that our move was being sub-contracted from AMS to Ontime Moving. The day of the move, they immediately said we had about 9000 pounds and had three bulk items which would cost and extra $75 each. (The grill, lawnmower and gym set). We were also given a bill for $567 worth of tape and shrink wrap. Most of the extra expenses didn't get passed down to us, but we did have to pay an extra 1800 pounds, which we still don't believe was accurate. \r \r Many pieces were damaged or scratched. Many of our boxes were crushed. The worst damage was done to our sleigh bed where it was cracked in four pieces. The workers scratched our walls so bad that they scraped inches of paint off walls! Everywhere you look you see the walls they scratched. \r \r Poor Poor customer service! The company decided to point out that they are providing estimates not guaranteed delivery dates. They never expressed any empathy that we are waiting on delivery to resume our lives and jobs. My husband cannot go back to work until the shipment arrives as his tools and work items are on that truck! Repeatedly, their communication was accusatory and lacking ownership. They advised to us submit an inconvenience and damage claim. The total we submitted was for $1360. They came back with an offer of $476. When I countered, they rescinded their offer because of my factual review on Angie’s List. In a threatening email, they would only agree to discuss compensation if I took down my review. The truth and my integrity are worth more than $500. \r \r Would never use them again. \r more

We used another local company for our last move and it was a disaster. This time around, we went with a company based on a referral from our friends. America's Moving Services offered a fair price and didn't hit us with any hidden fees. Would use again. more

We just moved with America's Moving Services in September and had a fantastic experience. Our move was a scary one, because it's the first time we moved in twenty years. Because of that, I was very nervous. But the folks at AMS did nothing but make us feel comfortable throughout the entire process. The guys that showed up on the day of the move were awesome. They did not ignore any detail no matter how big or small. I would 100% recommend this company to everyone I know, and plan to do so. Thanks guys! more

The best movers 1/15/2012

We made a promise that after our furniture was delivered and everything was undamaged and in the time frame we agreed on, I would review America's Moving Services and Ian & Charles. Well, delivery was made on time and just like Ian promised, unscathed. Our review is as follows: Saul was funny and very knowledgable when it came to the moving industry, very responsive to all our questions. Ian and Charles were professionals and it was evident from the minute they walked into our apartment that they had done this before. We can't say enough positive things about them. We would recommend them to everyone we know, including friends, family and co-workers. Great company. more

Useless company, mostly a middle man, ignore phone quote 1/6/2012

Note that for the vast majority of moves, this company is merely a brokerage (after filing a BBB complaint with them they state that they have 6 trucks of their own, though it seems for most customers they are merely a brokerage), so you are more or less paying them hundreds of dollars to pick up a phone book and call a local moving agency for you. The local agency they connected us with damaged many of our belongings, and AMS assumed no responsibility. They also had no information about the location of our belongings or our delivery dates at many points during the move, and 8 phone calls and dozens of e-mails later, we finally got ahold of a supervisor that gave us the contact information for the local company that actually had our belongings in storage and we started working directly with them. Again, you're paying AMS hundreds of dollars to pick up the phone and call someone else, and once they have your deposit the quality of customer service dramatically declines. Also, be sure for any move that you get an on-site, legally binding estimate. We went through a whole inventory process over the phone with the AMS representative, and it seemed thorough...but once they had our belongings, the estimate went up by approximately 60%. Phone/online estimates mean exactly nothing. You will simply not save money or time by going with a phone/online estimate. Like many of the other reviewers, I am suspicious that the many positive reviews for AMS posted on other sites must be fake. I suggest that you have a look at Yelp, which makes an effort to filter out fake reviews. As evidence for my suspicion, you will notice that, at the time of this posting, 18 other reviews have been filtered out by Yelp, most of which are overwhelmingly positive. Note also that most of the positive reviews on moverreviews dot com fail to mention AMS's role as a brokerage service in the move, whereas all of the negative reviews posted here mention this role. more

One word to describe my experience: Nightmare! 6/29/2011

I chose this company because of all the raving reviews, and that was a big mistake! I planned my cross-country move a month in advance. I was given a two-day window for pick up, and I was told that I would receive a call 24-48 hours in advance. I never received that call. I had to call them, and I was told that the pick-up would occur on the second day and that I would receive a call the next day to confirm the time. I waited until 4pm the next day and then called them to see what was going on. At 4pm the day before the supposed move, I was told that they were not able to pick up my stuff because their trucks were not working, because they chose to accommodate another customer whose stuff turned out to be 4000 lbs. more than the original quote, and various other excuses. They claimed they had no idea about this until the last minute. However, I do not believe that. When I called them the day before, the person I talked to kind of hinted that something may go wrong. But they chose not to inform me until I called them. The very next day, they told me that the earliest they could realistically arrange a pick-up was in a week!!!! Thanks to America?s Moving Services, my cross-country move turned into a nightmare! Because they breached the contract they agreed to, I caused a lot of inconvenience to other people, such as my landlord who was promised that I would vacate the house on a certain day. Not only did America?s Moving Services ruin my move, they also caused major inconvenience to other people. I was lucky that I was able to arrange for another company to pick up sooner than AMS would have. The other company scheduled the delivery day and time right after I made reservations with them. That was a pleasant surprise after having to deal with AMS for days to no avail. I chose to ignore the bad reviews about this company - big mistake! If you read some of the good reviews carefully, you?ll see people saying AMS arrived late to pick up. Now I am sure they will respond to this review and come up with many excuses as to why they couldn?t make this move happen on time. However, it?s not about coming up with excuses; it?s about delivering on the promises! I strongly recommend that you stay away from this company and take your business elsewhere. more

Best movers we have ever used 2/23/2011

My wife and I moved both locally and out of states many times and used different moving companies and all different price ranges. When we moved this last time from Georgia to California we chose the company that suited our needs best. We read literally hundreds of reviews on America's Moving Services and thought, are these real reviews? We can honestly say, they are all very real and very accurate. Our movers were Nathan and Matthew and they were the single best movers we have ever used. They packed everything meticulously and when the items showed up, there were absolutely no damages. The pricing was great adn the service matched their reviews. We would highly recommend this company. more

Smooth Move! 2/10/2010

I moved with America's Moving Services last month from South Carolina to Florida. My experience was very good. The sales representative was very polite and knowledgeable. The moving crew showed up in clean uniforms and worked pretty quickly. They were nice, and definitely knew the drill. I received my items in Florida two days later, right in line with the estimate they gave me. I would definitely use them again! Thanks guys! Pros: Staff was very knowledgeable and accurate with pricing Cons: None that I experienced more
