Best

I went there as part of a bachelorette night with about fifteen girls! The place was awesome! The service was amazing and we even got a free round of shots and bottle of champagne...

I went to Alphabet Lounge for a friends birthday and I was told it would be a really fun time, which it had the potential of being, if the place wasn't so small and crowded. We ha...

Alphabet Lounge!! 6/12/2008

I found Alphabet Lounge while perusing Citysearch so my friend and I decided to give it a try. We went on a weekend night and had a great time. Good music, good vibe, met some really nice people and the service was excellent. All in all a great time at Alphabet Lounge! Pros: Music, People, Service more

Great music, Be prepared to dance to 80s hits! 4/2/2008

I live in Boston, but I visit NYC a lot but haven't found a bar I truely dug before. When I came to visit the city last weekend, my friends brought me to Alaphabe L. We had a great time! We danced the whole time, and the crowd was very friendly (I made a few friends on the dance floor and out front). The crowd is in their 20s, and the music on the Saturday we went was 80s and 90s. The one fault was the bar has a $30 minimum for card (with an automatic gratuity), so be prepared! Other than that it's GREAT! more

Great birthday party 3/16/2008

I had my birthday party here in December and Babu was great with helping me put it together. He hooked us up with one of the best-tasting bottles of champagne and some great shots. My friends and I had a blast dancing the night away to 80s and 90s music. Friendly service - from the coatroom lady to the bartenders. My friend liked it so much he ended up throwing his birthday party here a month later and we had so much fun AGAIN. Pros: Great dancing Cons: Same music after awhile more

Dj is terrible 3/8/2008

I've been to Alphabet L. a few times and the djs especially the females who's always there plays the saaaame songs every time. Look, it's a neat little watering hole but the music sounds as though it's coming from an I-pod, fading to the end of each song. They get the crowd in, the drinks are flowing, the music just has to be mixed as if this were a lounge or club in NYC. Aside from that it's a nice bar with background cheesy 80's music over & over & over. Pros: good energy from the packed crowd, drinks keep coming Cons: DJ sounds like a pre-teen birhday party more

Run of the Mill 3/4/2008

Ok, so I live around here and went here for a friends birthday. The evening ran from completely ridiculous to actually having a good time. First of all, even though I think some of the reviews have been put here by staff members, Babu really is as nice as everyone says. I walked in and it was so crowded that there was no room to move. My friend had a 'table' which really doesn't mean much here. For the first 45 minutes I just had to stand and rotate in the same spot because there was literally no room. Then, the fire department came in and shut the place down until 100 people left. I stayed because of my friends b-day. After a bunch of people left, the party actually went smoothly. The place was much more enjoyable after it had thinned out a bit and getting a drink and doing a little dancing was much easier. The DJ that night was TERRIBLE. I love 80's music (more New Wave though) but either way playing 'It's Raining Men' after Madonna's 'Like A Prayer' made me feel like I was in a gay club or something. My experience that night made it really hard to actually judge this place. With the amount of options you have in the city, and in this neighborhood alone, I would probably go somewhere else. more

WOW!!! 1/29/2008

Always a fan of 80's. Alphabet lounge is just perfect. Excellent DJ. A bit crowded, but I don't mind. Definitely be back. Pros: too many to mention Cons: none more

Aweful Friday night 1/27/2008

This might possibly have been the worst lounge I've been to. It first started with the nerve of the place to charge a $10 cover (they only charge females $5). I walked in and immediately thought I was going to be stuck in one place the whole night. It was nearly impossible to move and get to the bar. I kept having to ask my friends to switch spots with me in order to make any progress. Even though I didn't get a table I wouldn't recommend one, although necessary if you dare venture to this place. As bad as I felt, my friends and I were all over the people sitting at tables because there was just no where else to stand, and we kept being pushed closer to them. A friend of mine also almost got into a fight because some idiot thought that he was the only one who wanted to walk around the place and pummled over my friend to get to where he wanted to go since that is the only way to get around this small crowded place that I wouldn't dare call a lounge by any stretch. Pros: None Cons: $10 cover, too crowded, impossible to get to bar for drinks more

One of the best Lounges in the City!! 11/29/2007

This upscale, posh East Village lounge was one of the best nights ever. My friends celebrated their birthday not too long ago and highly recommended this place. I was impressed with the swanky ambiance as soon as I walked in over to the beautiful bar. Owner Babu didn't make us wait for our drinks even though it was extremely crowded but in a good way and there was a private event which he didn't let on on how busy they were. All the bartenders were friendly including the bouncers and DJ who took requests. She was spinning both old and new music and I danced the night away. Overall we had a great night and would go back there again! Pros: Great service with friendly smile, great staff, good music Cons: No Cons more

Excellent Friday Night!! 11/28/2007

Located on East Village, I heard about this place via friends who celebrated their birthday and read the positive reviews from The NY Times. Also checked out reviews on www.newyork.citysearch.com. As soon as I walked in with my friends to a cozy dim lighted, warm social club, we were greeted by the friendly bartenders. The Swanky ambiance, complimented the specialty drinks made by owner/bartender Babu, try their wide range of shots. Not a huge selection of drinks but I prefer quality over quantity. The place was packed but not overcrowded. DJ was spinning both old and new music from 80's to recent tracks, she was also taking requests and extremely nice. Overall we had a great night and would go back there again! I am thinking about hosting our next charity event there. Best time to go is on Fabulous Friday. Free admission for Ladies, college students with valid college ID get free admission before 12am but RSVP. more

Way above average...!!! 11/5/2007

Great place to come with friends and have a good time! I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. We were greeted by the owner himself (Mr. Tanvir) who could not have been nicer, but maybe it was because I was with five beautiful girls. The place is a perfect mix of casual and classy. kool atmosphere, reasonable price (drinks), clean, energetic crowd, perfect sound system!!! Enjoyed every moment. Pros: atomosphere, drinks, clean, humble staff, sound system, great crowd Cons: floor more

Ladies Beware! 11/1/2007

Ladies be careful! I was at Alphabet Lounge this week and someone slipped a roofie into my drink. Luckily, my friends took me out of the bar and I was fine. However, I blacked out for the entire night after having only 1 drink. This is very dangerous and women should be aware and watch their drinks when they are at this bar! more

Shady shady shady business practices 10/9/2007

I was a huge fan of Alphabet Lounge for the first hour I was there. The bartenders didn't play favorites, they serve you quickly, and it was stacked with girls. Good looking girls, at that. But then things got kind of messy. The line to the bathroom was ridiculously long. It actually cut in front of two tables full of girls, which made it uncomfortable to stand there and pretend that I wasn't barging in on their party (unintentionally). It got so bad that I eventually went outside to go to the bathroom. Otherwise, it would have been a 35 minute wait to use the bathroom. At least. This waiting in line was eventually compounded, however, by the $20 tip I gave the bartenders on a $104 tab. Without my knowledge. They stick it onto all credit card tabs without warning you. The place boasts *decent* bartenders, but not "$2-a-drink" decent. So because of this ridiculously shady policy, I will no longer go to the Alphabet Lounge. Not even with cash, and maybe not even if someone offered to pay for all my drinks for the entire night. It's cramped, the bathroom line wait will cause someone some serious kidney damage in the near future, and adding an automatic 20% tip FOR A BARTENDER is just ridiculous. Skip it and go somewhere else. Anywhere else. Pros: Lots of girls who seemed to be happy with the DJ Cons: automatic 20% tip to bartenders on credit card tabs that they don't tell you about; bathroom line is laughably long more

AWESOME PLACE!!! 8/11/2007

This bar is great. I went here on Friday night for my friends birthday after having a horrible experience at avalon. The bouncers were great, the people were great, the bartenders were awesome, it was an all around good time. This is an excellent place to go, especially if it's your birthday. we sent an email ahead of time and got a free bottle of champagne, reserved tables, and a shot for the birthday girl. The staff very accommodating, the music was good, the bartenders were able to handle a VERY VERY packed bar without making you wait forever to get a drink. I can't wait to go back ! Pros: Attentive Bartenders, Good crowd of people, crowded, moderately priced drinks Cons: ......? more

BEST PLACE AROUND! 6/11/2007

Great place to dance! Music was awesome and the DJ was nice and took requests. Service was Unbelievable! Babu and cute MIke were very attentive. We never had to wait for drinks, and we tried an excellent selection of shots! Crowd was a good mixture of people. Not your usual pretentious NY club, more European and relaxed. For snogging: go to cupboard. For queasiness, wait outside the bathroom on a stool. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be back! Pros: service and dancing more

Very nice owner, beware of hidden costs... 6/5/2007

Great place, we did a bachlorette party there. The music was exactly what we were looking for. The drinks were ok but some friends got charged more than others. We were promised a free bottle of champagne but then we were charged a $20 service fee! How is that free? Other than that the place was fantastic and I think we will be back. Pros: Good music, comfortable corner next to dance floor, very nice staff Cons: Beware of hidden fees! more

Friday night was da bomb 4/14/2007

I was there Friday night and it was great. The crowd was hot, Babu and the staff were fun and attentive, Kelly, the DJ, was cool and kept the place rocking. She took requests all night long. All around a great spot. Extreamly highly recommended. I will be back!! Pros: Staff, Crowd, DJ Cons: bathroom line more

Great place, excellent staff 3/30/2007

I celebrated my 27th birthday there last night and had a wonderful time! Babu and his staff were extremely attentive. Thank you, Babu! I had 10+ friends there until 4 AM! We'll definitely be back. The only complaint I have is the DJ on that particular night, who had a bit of an attitude and a limited music selection for 80s night. Pros: excellent service, drinks Cons: the DJ more

Great time on a triple b-day 3/28/2007

We had a triple birthday bash which was arranged at the very last minute courtesy of Babu. We had a complimentary champagne and a nice table. The crowd is very LES and chilled. We had very nice time with a lot of 80s and 90s music (Madonna and George Michael were the dj's favorites that night). Everyone was extremely polite. The only drawback was the limited cocktail selection. Pros: Ambience, chilled crowd, great music Cons: Limited cocktail selection more

Great music and service!! 3/11/2007

Had the best time for my b-day there. The staff is wonderful and the music is awesome! Will definitly be back there soon! more

So much FUN!! 3/10/2007

This place is great! My roommate and I decided to celebrate our birthdays at Alphabet Lounge and we had a blast! We love Babu and all the bartenders - everyone was so nice and the music was FANTASTIC!! I HIGHLY recommend this place! Lots of FUN!! Pros: The Service and Personal Attention Cons: None more
