Best Haircut Since Moving to VA Four years ago! 7/15/2011

I'm a a VERY happy customer! I've had several years of mediocre to awful haircuts, and I'm thrilled to have found Alicia's! My stylist was Casey, and I would recommend her wholeheartedly! Casey was running a few minutes behind schedule, and the owner gave me a complimentary deep conditioning treatment. This is what customer service is all about! more

Alicia's Salon & Day Spa is Awesome!! 5/7/2011

I have been going to Alicia's for 12 to 14 years. Could I ever have an unkind word for my experiences there? NO! Alicia is very professional, and as another reviewer said, ""a savy business woman"".All the staff there are very personable, and are quick to give me their attention.Over the years i have seen her salon go through many changes, and is a comfortable, warm atmosphere. As for a reviewer saying her salon is expensive, yes it is. But as they say, ""you get what you pay for"". There is no one around that I have found to compare with her expertise.I would be lost if she was not around. She and her staff are the greatest! more

make sure your service is by a licensed professional 1/30/2011

Just make sure your getting services by a licensed professional. I know for a fact she has high school girls without licenses doing hair and others without licenses doing waxing and manicures and pedicures. more

Okay salon 10/7/2010

I had recently written a review on Alicia's Salon and Day Spa. I was very pleased with my hair, at first. I will first start with the positives of this salon. I will have to disagree with the prior comments about them not being ""kid friendly"". I brought my nine year old daughter in with me. They did not say anything negative or act like they were upset. She was able to sit at a table right across from me and did her homework along with she ate a snack. The services I came in for were a full highlight and hair cut. The highlights are absolutely gorgeous! When the hair dresser rinsed my hair, she rinsed with cool/cold water which is what you are supposed to do after highlights to close the cuticle. Just about every other salon I have gone to, they rinse with warm/hot water (which is a no no). When it came time to the cut, I asked for just a little to be trimmed b/c I was growing my hair out. The hair dresser round brushed my hair and then flat ironed. She turned me around so I could look at the back of it. Everything looked great! I am a cosmetologist (currently not practicing) due to being a military girlfriend and moving all of the time. So therefore, I style my hair every day. Ten days after receiving the service (on a Saturday), I did not style my hair at all. I looked at the back of my hair and noticed a chunk that was missing. No it is not a huge chunk, but it is still a chunk missing. I had my sister take a picture I called the salon after I noticed this b/c I was very upset. The lady that answered was very polite and apologized and let me know if there was anything they could do, let her know. I am not the ""type"" to ask for my money back and I did not want to go in to have anyone ""fix it"". Once I have a bad experience somewhere, I will not go back. Two days later, I sent the salon email (after discussing with my sister, mother and boyfriend to see what I should do). I let them know I would actually like a refund and did not want anyone to ""fix"" my hair. Alicia responded back to let me know their policy about the five days to dispute any problems to get a refund. I'm just a little upset b/c that $36 I paid for a hair cut, was $36 I could have used at another salon to get the cut I wanted. I now have to go back to NC this weekend and have my regular stylist cut it, which is $55. I have worked at two salons in Raleigh, NC that are very high end. One salon I worked at, the owner was named one of the top ten stylist in the nation and the other was one of the top ten salons for highlights and color in the nation. Yes, both salons have a refund policy. However if the client was not satisfied AT ALL, they would refund the money. \r There was also an issue when I went to pay. I handed her a gift certificate my boyfriend gave me (where he paid online and I printed it out). She took the gift certificate and the debit card I gave her. She charged the debit card $131.00 which was only to be used for the tip. When she went to cancel the transaction, she said the money would go back on there then b/c of how she ran the card. Two days later, the money had not been refunded. I had to take time out to call my bank to figure out what to do to get my money back that day. Over all, I spent almost thirty minutes between the bank and the salon getting this straight. Yes, they did fax all of the appropriate paperwork and I was refunded the money that day. \r Overall, I was pleased with everything except for the hair cut and how this has been handled. The great thing about hair is, it will grow back :) more

Wonderful experiences! 12/26/2009

Never had a stylist that I completely loved until I discovered Alicia. I've never been dissatisfied with any of my services. My latest are fusion extensions and I absolutely love them! I refer many people to this salon, and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a new style, or a day of pampering! 2 THUMBS up!!! Pros: latest/greatest styles, friendly staff, renovated salon more

It's a mixed bag... 12/31/2008

I've been patronizing Alicia's salon for 10 years, but I must say I'm growing weary of the constant ups and downs I have seen there. My stylist is AMAZING and I don't want to leave her, but it seems like every time I go to Alicia's the price for a haircut has gone up, again. I get great service from my personal stylist and from those that I know from going there over the years, but I'm not ususally impressed with the front desk staff. Greetings are sporadically present, depending on who is at the desk. I have been scheduled for a specific time only to show up and find out that, supposedly, my appointment was a half hour later. Seems a little strange to me. If someone messed up, I just wish they would be honest and apologize. I'm not difficult to get along with. \r \r I have also seen that children are not especially welcome in the salon, even if they are paying customers. Alicia herself has made comments to my children when they weren't misbehaving...just doing what kids do when mommy is getting a haircut. \r \r Alicia has very skilled stylists working for her and she is great about hosting fundraisers and other community events. She is generous about making donations to various causes and seems to have a good relationship with her employees. I have watched several apprentices become licensed stylists because of the opportunity given to them at Alicia's.\r \r I continue to go there because I have mixed feelings and wonder if anywhere else would be problem-free. Most likely not. My sisters, mom, and many of my friends have tried Alicia's because of my recommendations over time. These days, I find myself recommending a specific stylist and not necessarily the salon as a whole. It defeats the purpose, though, because you can love a stylist and be so turned off by a business that you aren't comfortable sending friends and loved ones there. Pros: beautiful salon, skilled stylists Cons: not kid-friendly, expensive more

Great Seervice 10/16/2008

I have been a client of Alicia's for 13 years. I started with her when she was just starting out as a stylist not long out of school. Since then I have seen her grow into not just a lovely woman but a very savvy business woman. Alicia knows what her clients want and she strives everyday to meet that goal. Alicia, and her staff, are continually going to hair shows and constantly bringing new techniques to her business. If someone is unhappy with a particular visit, I ask you to just let her know, and knowing Alicia as I do, she will do everything in her power to make it right. However, as I already stated, she is a very intelligent, savvy business woman and knows when someone is in the shop trying to get ""something for nothing."" If that is the case and you know who you are, then you should be ashamed of yourself for trying to ""trash"" the reputation of a respectable business. I have to ask, is this something you would want someone else to do to your friend or daughter? I don't deny that Alicia's is a little pricier than some other salons in town, but she provides a professional, personable, pampering service and goes out of her way to give you the ""art of pampering"" and if that is not what you are looking for then just remember, there is always ""The Hair Cuttery"" down the road! Pros: Great Service! Talented Stylist! Cons: Sometimes too busy to get appointment when needed more

Pampered Customer 9/11/2008

When I first came to Alicia's Salon it was a great experience. I was greeted at the door by very professsional, well dressed, mature receptionists. I arrived 10 minutes early. I was then given some coffee to warm me up because it was a rainy day. By the time the coffee was served I was greeted by my hairdresser. I was taken back for my shampoo (which might I add was splendid), and when seated in the stylist chair here came a massage therapist who then gave me a complementary hand massage that was out of this world. When my haircut was finished I felt like I had had a mini makeover. Just when I thought this great experience was over, my stylist then escorted me to the makup station where I received a complementry makeup application. I felt like a millon bucks and did not want this experience to end. I felt so beautiful. I would definitely recommend this salon to ANYONE I know. If you want to feel better about yourself, completely pampered, and just have a wonderful experience come to Alicia's!!! Pros: great teamwork in staff, very professional Cons: not one thing to complain about more

""Love"" Alicia's Salon and Day Spa 8/19/2008

I would like to tell everyone that my experience at Alicia's Salon and Day Spa has been awesome! Every time I go, I never have to wait and the service that I receive is excellent. Alicia does an awesome job on my color and cut. When I first started going, my hair was a mess now I get compliments on it all the time. I also like the soothing music that is played. It's very calming after having a stressful day at work. I've committed to Alicia on several occasions that her salon is just peaceful. I have and will continue to recommend Alicia's Salon to my friends and co-workers. I have been reading some of the comments made by other ""supposedly"" customers and I would just like to say that it appears to me that these so called customers are not really customers at all. You can just read some of the comments that they have made and they sound ridiculous. I would like to say to the person that wrote in comments under the name of: blahblahblah2121, you really need to learn how to spell. Your spelling and grammar is awful. It's really disturbing to me that people can be so mean and say such hateful things. I'm speaking from true experiences and again, I will continue to recommend Alicia's Salon and Day Spa to friends, family and co-workers. Pros: Parking, Location, Clean, Friendly, Good Service more

Horrible 8/17/2008

I hate to give such a bad review but I have no choice but to be honest. The Place is dirty run down and the most pitiful ""spa"" I've ever seen. I've have several services here- mostly massages and facials - but finally I just had to stop because I got so annoyed. The spa rooms were so loud it was like you were out next to a hairdyer and screaming baby. I complianed 3 or 4 times and when my technician told managment about my compliants all they did was aploigize and say they'll keep it down. It was ridiculous they never answered the phone and when they did it was some highschooler that was more interested in gossiping with eachother. I was on hold forever and TWICE when I booked an appointment and when I came in they had put me with the wrong person or not booked me at all! It just annoys me so much that places that this charge so much and give so little. I could tell when my spa person was stressed out. I could see it in her face and now probably because of all this she's gone. There's so many stylist and such that have left alicias and so many clients that are sick of it. I just hope they get their act together because chesterfield wont take much more. Pros: Awesome massage therapist but she quit Cons: Everything else more

best salon in the area! 8/14/2008

i absolutly love this salon & spa! i just want to comment on some aspects of others reviews. First of all, i know that alicia's does offer salon ""credits"" just not REFUNDS; when in fact they are legit. Also, if i had to choose to take my kids with me to the grocery store or alicia's salon, i would choose the salon!! My kids always have a great time, all the staff is great with kids and they are always hapy to have children there. I would go to aluicia's salon over any other salon in town! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Pros: great location, good parking, great receptionist greeting Cons: old fashioned decorations, too much clutter in the front space more

Bad Experience 6/7/2008

I would like for everyone to know about my experience of visiting Alicia's Salon & Day Spa. \r \r I think each person should make sure of the prices before getting your hair cut. \r \r My hair was cut and done incorrectly and they charged $36.00 for just 1 1/2 inches cut off and not done like I asked. I did not get a shampoo, just a cut.\r \r I decided to call and talk with a manager and asked her what a hair cut prices should be and she explained that with a shampoo and cut and style would be $35.00 to $45.00. I explained that I did not get all that and my hair was cut incorrectly and could I receive a refund on what I should have been charged with out the extra's, not for anything other than what I should have been charged and she said she doesn't give out credits and I told her that I would never come there again and she said she was sorry.\r \r This infact is their policy and I feel they take advantage of the public with their prices.\r \r I would never visit again.\r \r p.s. As i understand through others that that dont care for children in the salon either. more

Pricey and not really worth it 4/17/2008

I think this place is a wanna-be upscale salon, but they fall short. Other reviews indicate staffing issues, which I agree with. Also, the pictures of the owner on the wall as soon as you walk in make me think she likes to look at herself. more

Don't Go to ""Christopher"" 4/6/2008

My experience at this salon was horrible! I went there on the advice of a coworker, who recommended ""Christopher"" and told me he was offering a special: free color glaze with a haircut. I made an appointment with Christopher and arrived at the salon location at a strip mall. I was greeted and told to wait - then sat there for 45 minutes! Christopher finally shows up - looking like he just rolled out of bed - and doesn't even apologize for the wait. Honestly, I would have left at that point had I not felt like I was going to get a great deal. Boy was I wrong. Not only was the color WAY too dark, but I was charged more than double what I expected to pay. I called the owner, who told me she didn't know anything about a ""special"" and that she was going to take it up with Christopher. Instead of offering any kind of compensation, she simply had Christopher call my cell phone and leave a long, obnoxious voicemail with his side of the story. He claimed the free color glaze was separate from the color he applied to the roots, and that I was charged appropriately. I will NEVER return to this salon!! Pros: Parking Cons: Long Wait, Overcharged, Rude Management & Staff more

LOve it!! 8/9/2007

Alicia is one of the nicest people. She was not rude to me when i went there. Besides that she gave me a fantastic haircut. So yes i would go there again. Pros: Friendly,Clean,Good Service Cons: Wait,Pricey more

rude and false advertisment! 8/8/2007

I had a business card for a free hair cut. I made an appointment and when i arrvied i was told they had to reschedule since the stylist needed to eat lunch. So i rescheduled and when we went back i let my daughter use it since i did not feel well. I had went next door and was summons back. When i arrived Alicia Amsler, the owner, took me into another room saying that my child had already been there and if i did not leave she would call the police. I tried to tell her that my second daughter had been there not the one there now and she said ""I am warning you don't make a scene"". I tried to show her a picutre on all three of my daughters and she said ""I have said NO"". The man blowed dry my daughters hair and i told my daughter and her boyfriend to just get up and walk out the door. My daughter was nervous not understanding, she has a disability, and asked why since her hair had not been cut yet. I told her were had been told to leave. Alicia's salon offers promotions and does not follow up. Alicia Amsler is very rude to her customers and employees from things i have seen before. I have been there before but i don't recommend this place to anyone for anything! \r \r Pros: there are no pros to this place Cons: just going there is a con more

BEST Haircut in Town 8/1/2007

Okay, Alicia's salon is the place to get the best haircuts. Personally I think Alicia is the best stylist she does a really good job!!Sure Its a little pricey but its worth it if you want a really good haircut. I thought that the people were somewhat proffesional. The people although i have to say were really nice. They were a little slow but i dealt with it. I do reccomend going there. Also one really good thing about this place is that it looks proffesional. i am talking about the Chester and Woodlake location(I've been to both)\r \r \r \r Pros-Good Service,Haircuts are great,Friendly People.\r Cons-Pricey, Waiting Pros: Good Service,Haircuts are great,Friendly People. Cons: Pricey,Wait more

Top notch service, top notch services 7/12/2007
