A friend and I stopped here for dinner after reviewing many of the menus all over Little Italy. The calamari was great and the ravioli in pink vodka sauce was fantastic, as were my dining partner's mussels. We had gin and tonics before dinner and a bottle of chianti with dinner and never waited for anything as other reviewers have stated. Also, there was no automatic 20% surcharge on our ticket as has been mentioned (perhaps they have changed that policy?), however as good as the service and meal were I gladly tipped at least that amount. Of all the Italian restaurants in little Italy, we go to this one. And the fact that this was our first time in NYC makes it worse. We get there at 7pm and the manager takes us to the table with people there and tell us (in front of them) that we can have their table after they leave. After an average meal at best(I had the veal, my wife the seafood pasta, and our guest the homemade manacotti) the server gave us the bill. After I had given my credit card, he brings back my receipt with 20% tip. I asked to speak to the manager and she came screaming at me saying its only $15 and she couldnt believe I was making a big deal about it. This people give us italians a really bad name. My only regret is that I didnt read the reviews before we went to little Italy. Also the restaurant goes by another name ""il restaurante"" and is on a street corner. We went to this place last night and after an half hour wait we were finally seated. Right of the bat, the waiters seemed to be missing in action. We ordered some beers and they arrived right below room temperature for our drinking pleasure! About an hour later came the food, which was well portioned but average in taste, and the waiters seemed to be unaware that we were even there. Luckily about another hour later, the bill arrived but it wasnt until 30 minutes later that we got our credit card back with a receipt. Oh and here is the kicker! the receipt took a 20% gratuity automatically as if their service was worthy of some kind of a tip! When we expressed our complaint we were met with argumentative managers who let us know that ""No One had complained in the last 10 years!! I ate at this restaurant this past Friday night and the waiter we had was completely rude. First, the waiter brought us to a table where people were still finishing their coffee from their meal - he told them the restaurant was busy and they needed to finish now and to pay their bill inside. We tried to order drinks but it took forever. The food was good but the portion didn't even fill the apetite of my girlfriend who eats like a mouse. I ended up getting a slice of pizza afterwards down the street. I didn't realize the bill automatically included a 20% gratuity so I ended up tippng nearly 40% for a 4 person meal....I called the manager to discuss it the next day and he refused to consider my situation. visiting the retaurant I know as Da Gennaro Ristorante.......Ushered in from the street the four others in my party, and I were seated in the back corner near the window... we waited minutes go by and the water comes... we wait, with no menus. In order to get a server and menus we must go talk to the host. The rest of out experience went along the same lines. I ordered a glass of Merlot, I had to ask 3 times for it before a glass was brought to me... filled with white wine.?? I ordered the broccoli rabe, and was served spinach. the food was good when i finally got it, but the service was so bad i would not return to the restuarant. We have been to Da Genero's twice now - both times have been excellent. The waiters are fun and the food was great. Had Fried Zucchini for appetizer and Rigatoni alla Vodka for entree, both were fantastic. I would definitely return. Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Prices Cons: Street performers, Bathrooms more

As an incentive to draw me and a friend into the restaurant, the owner's son offered to specially prepare an entree that I wanted that wasn't on the menu--which was great. The waiter, Momir, was on top of everything the whole time-not to mention entertaining us by constantly hitting on the two blond souther girl sitting at the table next to us-- and the free wine and after dinner espressos were much appreciated.
