Employees don't know what their doing 8/8/2011

Prices are unbelievably high. I wanted to purchase an adaptor ring to mount a macro ring flash on my macro lens and i was told the only thing that goes on the front of a macro lens is a filter or lens cap there is no such thing as flash mount adapter. Then I wanted to get drop in polarizer was told there is no such thing as a filter that screws on to the front of 500 and 600 mm lenses, the employee I spoke with had no idea what a drop in filter is. Employees might need more training more

Avoid 7/21/2011

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! One of the worst stores ever! Customer service and prices are horrific! I came in because of the location. When entering the store, i got a fake, cold greeting from a younger gentleman. I told him that i was looking for camera cases and he unpolitely helped me. From his awkward, unhelpful, rude demeanor, i really doubt he has ever heard of the concept of good customer service before. Worse though was when i was just walking around browsing their merchandise. the younger man and a much older guy had their eyes gazed at me the whole time. Like they didn't want customers wandering around their store. But Worst of all was when i asked about my broken flash. In the rudest manner possible, he said that i can bring it in for him to look at. then when i asked to have him clarify how they charge for repairs, he lashed out with a bad attitude and said that they don't charge for checking out the camera (idiot didn't even answer my question.) and of course i overpaid for my film, which was the only thing I would ever need to buy from them again. Nada 7/14/2011

I like that they're local and I can see and feel the equipment before I make a decision to buy. But my main gripe is the customer service. The other day I needed a new tripod and a young man behind the desk asked if I needed help and I told him I needed some advice buying a tripod. He was very impatient while I talked it out and tried to make a decision. Another time I called in before driving all the way out and the guy on the phone said they had six of what I needed. When I arrived the young man at the counter said they didn't have them. I even reiterated what I wanted, ""Not in stock, but we can order it."" I called the next day to have it ordered and they said they had it . Is this a joke? I used to come to this store quite often because they had great prices and I want to help out the local store, but it's going to the back of the line behind Amazon and B&H. My suggestion, make sure you know exactly what you want before coming to the store so you don't have to ask anyone for any help!!! more

Dishonest--Go Somewhere Else!!! 7/7/2011

Wish I could give zero stars. Take your business elsewhere!!! Very bad experience here. You can go anywhere else, get a better price, and deal with more HONEST and intelligent people. more

Not recommended 6/28/2011

Sold some lens, flash and filters on consignment there 4 months ago and have yet to receive payment from them despite several phone calls to them and promises from them. Will not do business with them again. Honesty and integrity don't go far here. more

Wow! 10/8/2009

I went into Advance Camera with an old film camera of mine that I had no use for, figuring that they might be able to use it for parts or they might know of someone that would want it. Realistically, I just wanted to find somewhere that I thought it might get used for something (I'll be honest, I didn't know that there were still people taking pictures with film). To my surprise, I was told that they would check the camera out, and if it were in good condition they would sell it on consignment. I told them that they could have it and were welcome to try and sell it if they thought anyone might buy it. I filled out a sheet with my info and left happy that I had found someone that would take my old camera... I didn't think much of it, until about a week later. To my amazement, I got a check in the mail from them! Apparently, my camera had sold just a few days after I brought it in. I was surprised at how much the check was for and looked the camera model up online to see if there were any similar ones for sale (turns out there are still people using film cameras!) and mine had sold for about the same price that they were selling for online. All in all, it was a fantastic experience! Not only did they prove to be trustworthy (I went in to just GIVE them the camera, thinking there was no use for it...), had I actually been looking to sell the camera, I got a very fair price for it and it sold quickly. The next time I need anything camera related, that will certainly be where I go! Pros: Fantastic consignment service! more

Best place in Portland to get your sensor cleaned 2/10/2009

Okay, I change lenses a lot. I also travel a lot, and shoot waist-high in creeks out in the Gorge. My sensor gets really dirty, really fast. It can be an expensive habit to get it cleaned all the time, and no one ever seems to get all the blips off.\r \r Imagine my utter surprise and glee to discover that Advance cleans the camera, the sensor, the mirror, the display, and all related parts for $40. Not only that, but they did an INCREDIBLE job and did it in less than 24 hours. My camera is squeaky clean, and they gave me a print-out of before/after to show me just how disgusting my sensor was. The fine fellow at the counter (Jordan) was very nice and super-knowledgeable.\r \r So go here and get your sensor cleaned! You'll be one happy photographer.\r \r (they also have a lot of great used lenses and such--lots of eye candy) Pros: Cost-effective way to get your sensor cleaned, helpful staff, great value, centrally-located with good parking Cons: Can't think of any more
