My husband and I eat at Abuelo's frequently. The food is delish, the chips and salsa are awesome, and the margs and sangria are both really good. The staff are friendly. The on...

Not authentic, but not bad 3/30/2006

We enjoy Abuelo's. They have delicious margaritas and some wonderfully imaginative specialty drinks. Their tacos al carbon on the ala carte menu are my favorite... fajita meat rolled up in corn tortillas. They are probably the most authentic dish on the menu, and also one of the most affordable, smallest portioned meals. The rest of their menu is generally gigantic portions of pseudo Mexican food. You'll find the standard enchiladas, chimichangas, fajitas, etc. All are served nicely and taste great. It's always noisy in Abuelo's, so it's a good place to take the kids. The wait at the Chandler location is usually long, so go early if you go on a weekend. more

Mexican food, sort of 3/29/2006

Have you been to the chain Cheese Cake Factory? Well, the corporate restaurant designers took that concept, made it look "Mexican," and called it Abuelo's. Now, the American perception of what is Mexican and reality may be, oh, a little different. But, if you like chain and theme restaurants, you will like this place. The interior looks like a pseudo courtyard. The noise-level is quite high due to this. The "charm" evoked by the fake blue-sky is thus a little lessened. The menu is extensive but offers the American/safe versions of Mexican food. The servings are obscenely huge. Seriously, it was very unappetizing to see these troughs they call plates come to the table. The food was, well, safe. Nothing was terrible/nothing was really great. The fajitas are your safest bet, but they arrived with a mountain of onions and one tiny slice of bell pepper. Share this with at least one other person. more
