Best

It's dark. And classy. Not in a modern, trendy, hipster way but in a classic, tiny, locals, dark wood .... with no sign way. They do have absinthe. I love the Hemingway's Reven...

Worst

My tab was over charged too! I have to agree with a couple of reviews on that.. I thought it was a mistake, but now it doesn't seem like it.. Also the rude bar tender I kind of ag...

Just keep on drivin' 7/28/2006

I agree with ""specialk70"". Rude bartender, lousy service, high priced drinks plus impossible parking and hard to find. Too small, too crowded, too expensive and too pretentious. Can't really figure out if it's actually a gay bar or not. Not worth the trouble and hopefully soon to close. Cons: everything - bad service, overpriced drinks, bad parking more

Great Change Of Pace 6/19/2006

When I come to Houston I always try to find the time to have a drink or two here. A friend introduced me to the place and I love it. In fact I'm bringing people from Austin this weekend here so they can finally see what I've been talking about. more

Can't Wait to go Back! 3/9/2006

My mom and I went here back in January and had a great time. I am looking forward to this weekend because I will be back in Houston and plan on dropping by. Ralph, the owner/bartender, is great. He is very attentive and friendly. Love the atmosphere, dark & cozy, with a bar & couches. Try the honey/apple/brie appetizer-awesome! Pros: owner/bartender, food, ambiance more

great place to be! 2/5/2006

this bar is super cozy and romantic! the food is awesome and they have a nice selection of wine. the atmosphere is great. super laid back, super chill, great crowd. i would highly recommend this place to anyone. there are no signs out front so you really have to know where you are going. ENJOY!!! more

Quaint yet fun 12/18/2005

The bar is darling. It's perfect for meeting with old and new friends. I have frequented the bar on Thursdays between 9 and 11ish and enjoy the crowd which is mostly professionals (blazers, ties, etc.). The place is not super crowded. You will always find a seat. There's music but you can still hear the conversation. Pros: atmosphere Cons: farmhouse stools more

Great place for any social gathering GREAT PIZZAS 9/8/2005

I love this place! Everyone is so friendly, staff and clientel. They always seem to go out of thier way to make sure you are having a good time. And the male bartender who I believe is the owner, is always friendly and never rude and even makes the fantastic pizzas himself when anything special is needed. Try you love it. Pros: Friday Happy Hour more

My favorite new place 8/28/2005

I am surprised to see the bad review here. I have been to Absinthe 3 times now, and each time was great. It is really cozy and relaxing inside, the pizza is soooooo good, and the drinks are great too. In my experience, the service was very good. The bartender, who I think is the owner, seems to take a lot of pride in the place. He offers new drink ideas, and often checks to make sure the customers are satisfied. After work it's quiet, but later at night a crowd rolls in. On Wednesdays, there's a ""bring your own Cd"" night. Pros: Great Food, Great atmosphere more

don't waste your time 8/22/2005

The guy bartender is one of the rudest bartenders I've ever had and for someone who claims to have 20 yrs bartending he messed up 4 out of six drinks. The waitress makes you take of your baseball cap apparently they think they're New York the only thing missing is a $20 cover but they make up for that in their expensive weak drinks. I went with 5 other women one of which is a bartender, who needless to say won't be back. Cons: bartender, lame drinks, strict attire more

New Place 10/28/2004

  • In Short
Absinthe is the kind of bar you can go to several nights a week and always feel at home. The crowd is a pleasant and welcoming mix of young professionals and older regulars....
