Tried this place out of curiosity 3/29/2012

Came here looking for dessert having dined at nearby Meatball Shop. I'd seen the fried candy bars on the menu once before passing through and figured today was perfect. more

Yuk! 11/12/2011

I was in the mood for fried fish so I thought I drop in on this place. OMG so sorry I did. The fish wasn't seasoned and the chips tasted like they were fried in old oil. Plus it's ""way"" over priced for unseasoned fish and chips. I would definitely not go there for fried again. Yuk! more

Worst Customer Service Ever 7/6/2011

I really wanted to like this place. The food is okay, but an online ordering experience really put off me off to how poorly the place is run, and the terrible customer service they have. I placed an order through Seemless. After my 60 min wait time, it never came. After a few phone calls I was told ""someone would call me back,"" which, of course, never happened. I ended up sending an email about it and this was their response: ""We looked into this and we can find no reason why a delivery to an address so near to us would have taken so long particularly when it was a relatively quiet business day for us. We can only suggest that perhaps you were distracted and that your wait was not as long as you originally thought. Please do take it up with Seamless Web if you feel it necessary. Best regards, Dewi Williams"" I mean, it's $12--I don't need it, and it's not a big deal. My issue is with them being terrible at customer service and not even acknowledging there was a problem. Them assuming that I was ""distracted"" is really hilarious; really? I hope Dewi and the team get their act together, or at least learn basic customer service. If I'm going to get treated like crap, I might as well go somewhere else and at least get better food. more

I they are too good 12/27/2010

me and my girlfriend came here to get some stuff and now this is her favorite store. I can't get her away from here, and to make it worst we live only 56 blocks away from this place. So she would walk anytime she feels like it, or make me!!! :.( ..... more

Getting better? 8/16/2010

I went to this place for celebrate my best friend's birthday. It's my first time to have party here, and I love it. The food is great, and staffs are friendly.. I guess we got lucky (based on others reviews) more

Bad, bad, bad. 10/18/2009

A horrible place for fish & chips. I could overlook the rude and childish staff if the food were at least good. It is not; absolutely nothing like the real thing. This place is overpriced and staffed with rude people who behave like childish teenagers. Avoid! Pros: It was warm. Cons: Food, service. more

I miss chips! 9/12/2009

I went here as my son said it was pretty good. must have been a bad day? These were THE Worst Chips, i think i ever have had. and being from London, Ive had loads of chips! They were very dark in color, and tasted poor!. extremely overrated, and way overpriced for Potatoes! even the vinegar tasted unlike UK. worst tarter sauce too. fish was bland, to me $5.50 for chips is extortion Don't waste your time, its a small poky place, doesn't even smell like a chippy! i was so disappointed the oil was old, cos chips should be light and golden, not dark and burned. lets hope they improve..or that a greek or turkish guy opens one. cos they really know how to produce the best.. Cons: awful more

Loved it! 7/7/2009

I had a completely opposite experience from the previous reviewer. The staff was really charming. The food was good, greasy fish & chips. I ordered gravy with my chips- very good. I Pros: Good food, fun restaurant. Cons: None. more

best when hungover 5/24/2009

very very average and so not like any english chip shop. best when hungover, chips are below average, fish in batter is fish in batter cant really mess that up. skip the Pies, which arent puckka fyg, or even edible. Pros: fish, when they have it Cons: chips, pies, 85 % of their menu more

Award winning? 5/6/2009

If this place is award winning, why all the negative feedback?? I plan on going here once I get to NYC this Summer. more

If you must 3/2/2009

Ok, so if you've seen it on Throwdown with Bobby Flay and it's peeked your interest and you want to try it, go ahead, I did. The place is very small with minimal room to sit. When you get out of there you'll smell like frying oil. The drinks are WAAAAYYYY over priced (and i'm talking about soda, not beer). The tartar sauce wasn't as good as they said it would be, it was too greasy and bland. The fish itself was cooked properly but I think they don't change the oil too often because there was a thick film of grease around it. All in all, and i'm very critical, it was just ok. It would be a lot better if they drained the fish before serving it to get some of the excess oil out of the batter. more

First avoid Tea &Sympathy, then walk past this one 1/27/2009

Just as bad as Tea & Sympathy. I would never have thought that was possible. Probably the same owner. That would explain things for sure. Cons: too many to describe more

One of the Worst Places To Eat in the Village 10/24/2008

Run don't walk AWAY from this ""food"" establishment. Rude, obnoxious help in a small, smelly cramped environment makes Salt and Battery a place I no longer will visit. I guess Salt & Battery employees believe that customer service & food quality are not important here but it is definitely important to me. Pros: Cheap Cons: The food, the service & the place itself more

Flavorless, But Fun 8/28/2008

Five members of Meetup[dot]com?s Thrifty Gourmets group and I field-tested this restaurant---essentially, a snack bar---on Tuesday, August 26th at 7:45 PM. It was staffed by a British-sounding counterman, who greeted us in a gruff but friendly fashion, and three or four other employees who prepared the food. The counterman took our orders quickly and called them out as soon as they were available to be picked up. They were prepared correctly and presented straightforwardly in baskets. I ordered a large and small portion of the fried cod, a small portion of chips and a canned Boddington?s ale. The fish itself was thick and meaty, but flavorless. Its coating was light, fresh and tasty, however. I needed to add salt in order to draw flavor out of the dish. The chips were mushy and also flavorless. I enjoyed exploring this restaurant with my associates and sampling fried treats, but didn?t think that my dinner was particularly good or a value. Large order+small order+chips+beer=$23. Pros: Friendly counterman; quick service; tasty coating on fish. Cons: Flavorless fish; mushy chips; below-average value. more
