No visit to the Southern Louisiana can be complete without visiting at least a couple of plantations. Though a bit too Hollywood style for my taste, the tour of the plantation gives you a glimpse in how the rich and the mighty lived in the golden days of plantations. Sumptuous decor, grand furnishings, tall tales of entertaining, swooning beauties, balls and banquets, it is all there. What is missing - in my opinion - is the other side, the tale of who made all of this possible and why. Don't despair - do the Oak Alley for the glitz and the Laura plantation next door for the raw, real story - together they make for a great day of exploring.
