Pricey but tasty Indian 6/20/2006

My tried and true Indian restaurant is India Express on Broadway but recently they lost their liquor license and because we were in need of a cocktail, we headed over to Chutney's on 15th. We've avoided this place because they claim to be "fine dining" Indian and good Indian IMHO doesn't require a white tablecloth. But we went and here are my thoughts: 1. Food was tasty. I ordered my usual: Chicken Tikka Masala and Alu Gobi. Both were great and the Tikka Masala sauce was exceptionally creamy-definitely 5 stars. 2. Service. 2 stars here. While very polite and friendly, they mixed up our friend's order and forgot our appetizer. They did make up for it with free dessert but it was a little too late 3. Ambiance: certainly nicer than India Express (which is not hard to beat) but not necessarily an important factor for me for eating Indian 4. Price: nearly double the cost of India Express and not significantly better. Chicken Tikka Masala was about $16 here for reference. If you're looking for a fancier Indian establishment check it out, but I'd still recommend India Express just down the road. more
