When you buy a home, one of the questions that eventually comes up is who you are going to get to inspect it for you. A good inspector will find things that can be bargaining chips in the final closing, or warnings to stay away, depending on what kind of person you are. A bad inspector will give the green light after taking your money, leaving you with plenty of bad problems down the line.
Compliance Inspection Service is run extremely professionally - and that can be frustrating at times. Gerrit P Van Ness, the inspector I worked with, has been doing inspections for 20 years, and was a general contractor for 20 years before that, all in the Seattle area. As a result, he knows a lot of businesses around and who to go to and who *not* to go to. While he'll share the latter list with you, he won't recommend good people to fix the problems he finds, citing a conflict of interest. Professional, respectable.... but frustrating.
Still, the guy knows his stuff and quickly writes out a report, giving you plenty of ammo for the closing deals.

When I had to get my new house re-roofed as part of the closing process, my agent suggested these guys. They may not speak great english, but they did a splendid job on my new roof, keeping the existing gutters intact (apparently that's pretty rare) and tearing off 3 layers of old roofing. What's more, they showed up every day after the contract started (also pretty rare), finishing the entire job in under a week.
Best of all, they did this for about half the price of anybody else. (And yes, they *are* licensed and bonded - NETWOPRO11NR.)

From the decor to the seating to the screens themselves, this locally owned and operated theatre is what every other theatre should aspire to. It's clean, it doesn't force you to sit through 10 minutes of ads. Parking is readily available within 2 blocks north, and with all this, the prices are still less than most other theatres.
There have been many times when I my thought process has been "What is the Majestic Bay playing right now?" instead of "I wonder if there are any good movies out...."

As anybody who has been to the Cinerama will tell you, it's screen is big. Really big. And it sits a lot of people. In an age of multiplexes trying to eek out every last dollar from you, it's freshing to have at least 1 threatre buck the trend and go for volume, not throughput.
But the size of the Cinerama isn't its best feature. That honor will go to the crowd. See, because the place is so large, it's best used for action movies. Action movies tend to be seen by a more.... energetic population. Going to such a film on opening night here can be quite a blast.

Depending on the season, the flowers you can find from any of the several merchants here will be either fresh or dried. Either way, they'll be relatively cheap (think $15 for a gargantuan bouquet), and while some vendors have better arrangements than others, all will be at least have decent.
It may be tempting to get the flowers immediately on the corner of 1st and Pike, but those cost about 4x what you'll pay if you wander deeper into the Market.

Ever since Best Cellars got kicked out of the U Village for not performing well enough, I've been looking for another decent wine store. Sure, I *could* just go to some grocery and randomly pick whatever label I like the look of best - but really, I know very little about wines, and have found that method to be not so reliable. (Go figure.) No, I really do need somebody to make suggestions - and to not suggest only $50 bottles. Enter The Vineyard.
It's got a huge variety of wines tightly packed into a small store near Greenwood. The if you want, you can still spend nearly $100 on some wines, but you can also find quite a lot of good wines for under $10.... those on clearance sometimes go for under $5. They'll even let you taste a few as they try to help you make your selections.

Pho - basically, broth soup with a liberal quantity of noodles, mushrooms, bean sprouts, mint leaves, and whatever meats you order - has to be one of the best deals every. For less than $6, you get giant bowl of soup, which is very filling, not very fattening, and pretty healthy. Oh, and it's quick to dish out, too - average time between ordering and eating is bout 2 minutes.
The Than Brothers have stores all over Seattle, and all of them have show the French influence on Vietnam by serving their dish with a very tasty cream puff. Be warned that all of their stores are cash only.

Probably half of their food is vegan, but don't let that fool you into thinking this is a granola bar: Carmelita's may well be one of Seattle's most upscale vegetarian restaurant. The wine flows freely, the portions are small and rich, and the staff and atmosphere is highly polished and laid back at the same time. In my experience, the food is hit-or-miss, but the Chocolate Muck Muck desert (basically a chocolate soufflet) is consistantly one of the best desserts in the greater Seattle region.

Gelatiamo is an ice cream stand downtown, and, quite simply, serves the best ice cream in Seattle. Other places such as ColdStone or the Mix will take some decent ice cream and mix it up with whatever you want in front of your face, and that is quite good. However, Gelatiamo will have none of that - this place is all about pure ice cream, and as far as unadorned ice cream goes, this is as good as it gets. Try the rice or coconut flavor. They sound odd, but oh man, they are *good*.

Every time I go to Queen Sheba, I seem to forget what I had last time. This is somewhat surprising, because every time I go, I'm pretty sure I rule out most f the menu into the "I don't want to eat that" category (raw meats and super spice don't do it for me). I seem to recall that only leaves me with 4-5 dishes that I like. And yet, I always thoroughly enjoy whatever I end up with, and it's not just because I get to eat curries with the nan-like dishes they serve you.
