I was convinced to checkout Piecora's pizza through a number of websites where people seemed to think their NY Pizza was the best pizza in Seattle. Finding myself on a saturday night watching baseball, i'd be stupid not to order pizza, so Piecora's beat out a few known champs and got my business. When I called, the person on the phone was friendly and sounded to be either from NY or Boston. Check. Inside, the atmosphere was very cool with people crowded around tables and in booths and an upstairs balcony section to boot. Check. Finally, the place smelled great. Check. But when we got the pizza back to my place and opened it up, I was immediately wary. Something was off, and while I couldn't consciously figure out what it was, I knew I would find out soon. It took me a couple bites of mild enjoyment to realize that for Piecora's Pizza and Pasta (The pasta might very well be fantastic) the "NY Style" comes in the cheese. The cheese was greesy and delicious, and separated easily from the dough, drawing similarities to many cheap, large slice pizza places in the Big Apple. The dough/crust, however, was the problem. It was crisp and tasteless and lacked the general "pizza dough" nuance that I was looking forward to. Obviously, at first I thought I was crazy and needing another stint at Pizza Addicts Anonymous (AKA The Gym), but my suspicion was echoed a couple minutes later from across the table (let's be honest, we were eating on the floor in front of the television...). Overall, I think Piecora's is a decent pizza that will do the trick in a tight spot, but I would not venture takeout pizza from there again unless baseball was to be had and pizza was needed stat.
