Massage is the quintessential "personal" thing and a review of a massage place might make as much sense as say, rating your favorite memory against someone else's. That being said, there's something we all are expecting in a great massage: bodywork that feels good where we need it. That requires communication, a relaxing, but not precious, atmosphere, and an attentive and skilled bodyworker. LA Sports Massage provided all that. I called on a weekday morning and got a same-day appointment with Michelle. The office is a nondescript storefront on Washington Blvd. near Culver City, and looks a bit sterile on the inside, kind of like a dentist's lobby. But don't let outer appearances sway you. I came for one thing only: to get a good massage that was, as Goldilocks would say, not too hard and not too soft, but just right. I got the Sports massage with Michelle. She was great. No-nonsense, very confident and calm, not chatty when I told her I was not a big talker. Great attention to the quirkiness of this particular cyclist's body; competent communication, not one of these massage therapists you find in chiropractic offices who go on "auto pilot." It took me a little while to relax and I got there with Michelle. The music player in the room even had a dock so I could hook up my own iPod and listen to music that I found relaxing instead of what was playing. Also, it wasn't overly air-conditioned, but spare and clean and neat and mmmm I just melted into the massage and emerged blissed out. I will definitely be returning to LA Sports Massage again. I've paid as little as $39 for a massage at other places, and this $90 was definitely worth it. more
