Having lived in Italy and then in NYC for the last few years I've gotten used to (and even picky!) about Italian food. Andiamo is the first restaurant in Austin (we've lived here a year) that has ""wowed"" me with its authenticity, thoughtful menu, and classic but casual ambiance. This little gem is tucked away in the unlikely confines of a strip mall....but don't let the location fool you! The minute you walk in, you are transported to an intimate Italian assemblage. Our waiter was prompt and articulate in the Italian language. There was a man in the back center of the restaurant playing a mandolin (though the songs were a bit ""cheesy"", stereotypical Italian music). We never ran short of bread or small plates of olive oil complete with heaping mounds of Parmesan cheese. The optional fixed menu pleasantly reminded me of something you would see in Italy. The food was amazing. We all ordered something different....veal & ravioli, linguine alle vongole, etc......and I can honestly admit that every dish was wonderful and rich with flavor. From beginning to end the flavors of our experience blended perfectly. Our meal was topped off with a complimentary glass of either Amaretto or Sambuca. Perfect! We will definitely be frequent patrons!!
Pros: Authentic Italian food
Cons: Location (small strip mall)
