The Second Floor Scrapbook store (once actually located on the second floor of a building in Carroll County) was among the first in the area to exclusively sell scrapbook supplies, and I think it's the oldest at this point, as its predecessors have since shut their doors. When Recollections opened two stores in the Baltimore area last year, some stores were frightened that the large superstore would drive away business. I'm not an insider, so I don't know the sales figures, but I DO know that I'd much rather shop at the Second Floor Scrapbook Store than at Recollections. Laurie, the owner, has an innate sense of which products are the best and she offers them at competitive prices. She staffs the store with people who also love scrapbooking and are happy to help new customers (and new scrapbookers) or chat with experienced scrapbookers about new techniques and products.
Depending on where you live, the SFSS might be a bit of a hike--you have to go out a ways on either Liberty Road or I-70. From Howard County, Carroll County, and western Baltimore County it's a easy and pleasant trip.
