Italian Bakery and Deli 4/20/2006

A friend recently recommended that I check out the new Italian Bakery in town Pizzelles. She was raving about their Cannolis. I visited the new store, and was a bit disappointed. Having had "Italian Bakeries" in NYC, this place was very small and had a smaller menu. And it was not just a bakery, but also a small deli selling pizza, soup and sandwiches. They are also a bit on the high side when it comes to cost. A cannoli (listed as "large" is a standard sized cannoli) for $3.50. A ciabatta, listed as an "Italian Sub" is $6.75. Their "Traditional Pizza" was not bad, at two topping "slices" at $2.75. But a dozen cookies are $7.50. While the food overall is quite good, I think it's a bit expensive for this neck of the woods. I had a cannoli, it was a traditional one and tasty. Also had a biscotti at $1.30 each, which again, quite good but a bit pricy. In a town where traditional Italian baked goods are non-existent, this is a good idea. But it will be a treat I have only occasionally because of the price. more
