Rivers Edge Family Medicine: Blackburn Shelley L MD

Dr. Blackburn is one of the best physicians in Central Ohio. Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to get an appointment (even as a current patient). She did bring on a nurse practitioner ( no offense to her or others in her field) but I am the doctors patient and came to the practice to been her patient. Also anytime you call there are anywhere from 3-7 other calls ahead and wait time is longer than I can or will wait. On two occasions I waited over 40 mins and then had to hang up. This is just to reach a staff member. I've had paperwork not get completed. It took 2 weeks and three phone calls to get a prescription that was called in wrong corrected. I have consistently had to call them for lab results vs them letting me know results (even when there was an abnormality of low calcium and multiple fractured bones) When I finally got a hold of a nurse about what to do he said " well, if you don't feel better soon you should probably be seen by the doctor". Feel better?! Meaning if I have what would have been a fourth bone fracture? I went ahead and made an appointment at which point she said she would schedule me with a specialist (because "I can get you in quicker") Then after two weeks of me calling her office about it someone from a group practice called me to schedule. There wasn't even a specific doctor in the large group practice that was recommended for me. So I randomly scheduled with whatever doc had the first opening which was another 3 weeks away. Wow. I'm not exactly sure what's going on there. As wonderful as Dr. Blackburn is I cannot recommend her at this time and I may have to go elsewhere. After being a patient of hers for several years it's very disappointing. more

I have seen both Dr. Brill (my regular doctor) and now Dr. Weiss at River's Edge and both are absolutely amazing! I have no clue who wrote reviews about Dr. Weiss not liking women? I am a woman and he never once spoke down to me, belittled me or acted like he hates women whatsoever. He was actually the very opposite! I have what you call "white coat syndrome"-- I get nervous around doctors and usually, Dr. Brill puts me at ease because he is quiet, he listens, lets you interject and then he formulates his thoughts out loud but Dr. Weiss did an amazing job! He eased my mind with stories, laughter and his vast knowledge of medicine. I left his office feeling relieved! I'd recommend these doctors to everyone and I don't take that lightly, I have had horrible doctor experiences. more

Dr. Weiss makes it crystal clear he does not like women. He is extremely rude and very condesending to females. I'm not one who cares what others prefer in their personal life, however he brings his hate toward women to the practice. I was treated once by him, and will never put myself through being treated like that again. I would strongly suggest females seek a professional doctor, not one with a deep hate toward women. As for males, I'm sure he'll bend over backwards or forwards to accommodate you during your visit. more

My family and I have been going to Dr. Weiss for almost 20 years, and he is an excellent doctor, but I have to say I don't recommend him for women. He is fine if your male spouse/significant other is with you, but when alone or with other women (once with my mom) he can be rude and condescending. I've been chalking it up to my own paranoia for years, but have now heard complaints from all of my female family members and friends who see him as well. Guys, see Weiss; Ladies, see Blackburn or find a different office. more

Good: Over the years his staff, like all of us, may have its ups and downs. The lady who draws blood for him has got to be the best I have ever experienced. (I am a multiple gallon blood donor.). Bad: No complaints here. I feel that he sees me as a person, not just a chart or the latest person in the office for treatment.. Improvements: I have no suggestions for improvement.. more

He is a friendly, but I think he is just anOK doctor. Nothing special. His receptionist is horrible, and it gives bad images for his business unfortunately. She is not friendly, and it seems like she is always having a "bad day".. at least every time when I go in. She doesn't say "hi" nor say a word when you come in. She keeps GIVING YOU ORDERS instead of ASKING you to fill in the form, etc. She is not professional on the phone and keeps calling me "honey" this, honey that. It's just too bad that they have such unprofessional receptionist. more

Dr. Michael Weiss has been healing me and my family for nearly two decades. Many of my friends and family also see Dr. Weiss and his associate, Dr. Shelly Blackburn, who is also an OB/GYN. Dr. Weiss is fast, prompt and to the point. He is very easy to talk to and always willing to listen. He welcomes patients who take a proactive approach to their health-care. An all around amazing physician. His office and staff are always warm and inviting, even when very busy. more

Dr. Weiss is a doctor I have been going to for many years. He is very friendly, sociable, and caring for your family and his patients. He gets to know you by name and is all about the patient and not his bottom line. He's very knowledgable and I highly recommend him if you want a doctor who cares about you personally. more
