Highlands Animal Hospital has come to our rescue several times when our regular vet couldn't see us. The staff who answers the phone is always willing to listen to what I have to say and help in whatever way they could. We were in a predicament one time with an unaltered male dog and a female dog who was in heat. Although, Highlands Animal Hospital could not neuter our male for a couple of days, they kept him at their facility without charge to keep our female from getting pregnant. This was undoubtedly above and beyond what most other hospitals or clinics would have done.

Red Barn Furniture may be overlooked by a lot of people because it sits on CR 17 on the back side of Avon Park, between Avon Park and Sebring actually. Housed in a building that looks somewhat like a barn, this store is huge inside. They have sofas, living room tables, dining room furniture, bedding, outdoor furniture, rockers and more. While much of their furniture is new, Red Barn gets their furniture from a variety of places, too. Some of their furniture comes from auctions, so it is gently used. They get their bedding from a business which refurbishes used mattresses and box springs. Although we don't need furniture very often, we have bought a couple of nightstands for our guest bedroom here. We told our neighbors about Red Barn and they bought their living room furniture there.

Turner Furniture is conveniently located on N. Highway 27 just north of Sebring in Avon Park.
Make sure you turn on the access road to get into the area.
I recently purchased a rattan living room set.
Though a bit pricier than other local stores, the quality makes it worth it.
Turner offers delivery for a fee or you are welcome to load and take your furniture home with you.
I opted for delivery service and they delivered in a timely manner.
I recommend this store for quality furniture and accessories.

Lawler Wells has lived in Avon Park all his long life. He knows the area, he knows the soil, he knows the growing conditions, he knows the weather cycles. All these things help make Lawler an expert in lawn care and maintenance. Although there was an existing sprinkler system in the yard of the house we bought, it had not been kept up well. Lawler improved the system and made any repairs that were necessary. He also tore up the grass and weeds that comprised our yard and laid new sod. Since then, he has maintained our yard and sprinkler system. We have a thick, lush lawn that many people say they're envious of.

Our Save-A-Lot has some low prices but not the kind of prices I hear people across the country talk about. I will sometimes see sale prices in their advertising flier that I'll go in for but not very often. They had potatoes at an exceptional price about six months ago and their price on bananas is usually 20 cents less per pound than Wal*Mart's (which usually has the lowest prices in town). Our Save-A-Lot does not have many name brand products and, of course, you have to pack your own groceries which is hard for me since I have muscular dystrophy and am not supposed to lift anything heavier than 5 pounds. The store was revamped in the last couple of months and seems to be a bit cleaner now. I'll pick up a few things when I pay my bill at TECO, which is right next door, but shop here much more than that.

Yum's is a family run restaurant which has delicious Chinese food that is always prepared fresh. They have at least two specials daily which give you a full meal including entrée, rice, egg roll or soup and fortune cookie for under $5.00. You can't beat that with a Big Mac and Yum's' food is much healthier and better tasting. They also have a very extensive menu. If you call your order in ahead of time, you won't have to wait as long.

Even though I have never done business with Rainsoft, I will never do business with them. I do not need an over-priced water system and have never contacted Rainsoft for information about one; however, their marketers call our home several times each week and sometimes even several times a day. Even though I have told them we are not interested, they continue to call us. Annoying!
