I love love love Woodlawn. I began my riding instruction as a little kid at their camps, and then rode at Tamarack Stables and Justice-Snowden Farm for several years. I started riding again at Woodlawn a little over a year ago, and WOW. I'm 100% in love with this place. The horses are fantastic (especially Belle!), the instructors have been amazing and helped me correct some bad habits, and the other riders are very friendly, as well. Although the facilities are being threatened by a bypass, they are amazing... They have an indoor ring, an outdoor ring, a large field to jump and do flat work in, and a small strip of trails. I will let you know that if you're looking for a barn where you can jump decently high (about 3' - 3'5"") this will not be the place for you. However, if you're content jumping smaller jumps and focussing on position, horseman ship, etc, I would highly recommend this barn. The other upside to it is there are 3 barn shows that take place in the spring and are incredibly fun and allow for some friendly competition. more

Great stable! 4/26/2012

It's true Woodlawn isn't a ""show team"" stable, but if you are looking for a great riding environment with excellent instructors and healthy, happy horses, this is the place for you. They offer lessons for kids and adults at various levels from beginner to more advanced and they have three shows each year in the spring. I've been riding at Woodlawn for many years now and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The horses are all sweet and the owners and trainers are knowledgeable and caring. It's a great place to learn or re-learn to ride! more

Don't recommend it. 8/20/2010

I came to the barn expecting to find a show team & well-trained horses. But no, I found old lesson hags & people who barely know how to ride. I do NOT recommend it to people who want to show or like a fast moving pace. I've been riding for 4 + years there (currently looking to move!) and the highest I've jumped is MAYBE 2ft. You do no dressage, no eventing, nothing. So all in all, don't recommend it. more

I dont reccomend it 7/8/2010

I used to ride at Woodlawn Stables, I wasn't very happy with it. When I first came to Woodlawn, I had been riding for 8 years, I was in a intermidiate class. Most of the girls in my class didn't really know what they were doing, and we weren't jumping very high. I came knowing my lead changes and jumping 2.6ft in shows, and they put me in a class with girls who barely knew their leads. Many of the horse bite, I got bit at least once each lesson. I didn't find the staff very helpful.I did NOT enjoy my time at woodlawn. And I know many others who feel the same way. My instructor was lazy and didnt even bother helping with my position. They were not very welcoming either. They do not teach even the basics of horsemanship. If you are a beginner at woodlawn you will spend the whole fist lesson learning about the bridle, when you should be learning much much more. I am VERY glad I left woodlawn. If your a serious rider looking for a good place to ride and show, I dont reccomend Woodlawn. Pros: good for beginners Cons: many horses bite more

Great stable in the northern VA/DC area! 6/26/2006

I've always wanted riding lessons, but my parents could never find a stable close by. Until my friend recommended Woodlawn stables, they are great! The staff is nice, professional and know what there doing , and the horses are well kept for and seem very happy. They have both an indoor and outdoor area, which are in great condition. This is such a great place for kids and adults to learn how to ride horses. Pros: Well kept friendly horses, Friendly professianal staff, plenty of room to ride Cons: could use some new paint more

Enjoyable lessons and close by! 5/25/2005

I grew up riding and showing. As I got older things got very hectic and it is difficult to fit it all in. Now I take lessons twice a week to keep my legs and seat. I am having a great time. The horses are really good and I have my favorites. I have two different instructors and they both are genuinely interested in helping me become a better rider. They have summer camp and even one for adults! I feel like a kid again. Pros: Close in location, Professional staff, Wellmaintained horses Cons: Could use some paint more
