Not just for borrowing books.. 3/29/2006

Books, yes, they have books! Although I do wish at times that they were more consistent with series (Books 1, 3, 12, and 19?), they do stock quite a fine selection of your latest best sellers and other old fiction favorites. Their branch library in Ambler easily fills out many of the gaps in their collection. However, it's when you look beyond books that this library shows its strengths. Magazines, a fine video and DVD library, along with a solid selection of audio books adds to the experience. However, there are a few things in particular I remember them for: the $1 book rack at the front, featuring trade paperbacks and hard covers often barely read, the bi-annual book sale, and lastly, the kid's summer chess club. more

Great Library 3/17/2006

Wissahickon Valley Public Library is located in Blue Bell, PA, Whitpain Township. The library is modern and has new releases as well as the classics. There is a great video library that you can lend from. The library has a very nice children's section with a great area for little ones to sit with their parent's and read. The Friends of the Library also hold used book and video sales which are great because you can get books for .25 to 1.00. On the last day of the sale you can get a brown grocery bag full of books for 3.00. It's great for an avid reader like myself. Books can be put on hold and you will be called when the book becomes available. They also have a great website. more

Great Library 7/27/2005

Wissahickon Library is a wonderful library that offers many things as well as the lending of books. There is always an area of the library that has three full racks of paperbacks for sale for .50 each and a set of large shelves that have hardcovers for sale for 1.00 each. On occasions there are books that are marked higher than 1.00 but never too high, these usually are new releases that have just come out. In addition to the ongoing sale twice a year The Friends of the Library have a used book sale which you can really grab some great titles in great condition. Every topic of book you can imagine is on sale and on the final day, whatever books are left~and there is usally alot, it's 3.00 for a brown shopping bag of books. I go whenver they have the sale and build a library at home to have books on hand to read. The people who work at the library are very helpful should you need reference information as I did recently for a project for my daughter. They went out of their way to find whatever we needed. The library has huge windows which look out into a garden in the children's section and often you can find bunnies and groundhogs which are always a big hit with the little ones. I've been to many libraries but this one is well organized and maintained. I spend hours there when I go. more
