MY MOM AND SISTER AND I ATE HERE, THEIR CILANTRO CHICKEN, I THINK IT WAS THE PESTO ON MY CHICKEN, THAT STANDS OUT FOR ME, WAS FANTASTIC!\r MY SISTER HAD THE FLAVORS OF THAI, SKI...

Worst

I went for the first time this weekend, with very high hopes -- I adored 5 Dudley, and love La Botte and Piccolo -- and I was expecting the same quality here. Unfortunately, ever...

BAD FOOD, OVERPRICED 8/28/2009

Dont believe the reviews. This is not Mexican food. The chicken mole was horrible. The chicken was dry, hard and tasteless. The mole sauce had to come out of a can. The carnitas were burnt, dry and no flavor. the beans were terrible. Do not waste your time or money this food is not worth it. My friends and i wiil not be back. Cons: Horrible dinning experience. more

It's Now Closed. 6/13/2009

Updated menu is now Mexican! We saw the news on EaterLA & walked over for happy hour. Best deal in town. $5 handmade margaritas & $2 tacos. Also other great happy hour choices. Great food, drinks, service & room after work. Also Orlando the bartender is the best. Pros: Killer Happy Hour. I can walk here. Cons: Not much variety in the menu more

Fake 5 star rating reviews 1/23/2009

If you read closely you'll understand that the people comenting here and giving 1 Star ratings are actuall real customers and the ones rating 4-5 stars are obviously the owners!!!\r \r I mean come on, how stupid do you guys think we are...it is your own fault that you stink and still you are trying to convince customers that you are that damn great , 5 Stars...\r They used to be good at the beginning but look what happened over the past year to year and a half,, they completely stoped caring about their customers. And ...the patio\r Oh boy, this patio is just soo depressing, who ever came up with the design?? Did you guys design this and think..yeah, this is awesome!\r Seriously with all the money you took from us you could have invested it into the patio. You guys just plain, stink...\r Please let us know where you are going to close so we can come and celebrate.. Pros: the bar stools Cons: the rest more

i love duck and apparently so does WILSON 1/21/2009

my husband and i love duck\r always looking for it, when we go out.\r \r well we show up to wilson, with no ressie, but were sat after a few.\r we see on their menu it says duck carpaccio............UH, YEAH!\r f*ckin fabulous. we each ordered it!!\r we were really impressed with this young chefs menu. Gotta say, really impressed\r we actually went back a few days ago again, ordered the house made pasta's, they have the most outrageous olive oil they use to finish most dishes, and the flavor of really good olive oil, actually is well, alarming, when you realize what we as foodies are used to, man the professionals get the good stuff, don't they. really fun , creative menu more

VERY poorly done and overpriced 1/17/2009

I have to say, I eat out a lot and this is the first time I've ever felt compelled to write a review. After hearing rave reviews from a friend and seeing the creative upscale menu on their website, I was excited to try this place. Everything on the menu SOUNDS great - ingredients like diver scallops, charred octopus, duck carpaccio. We tried a number of small plates on the menu, and the food ranged from mediocre to just plain AWFUL. The duck might have been good, but it was so coated with strong gorgonzola that you couldn't even taste it. The octopus dish was bland and so soaked with grease that my stomach hurt afterwards. It really seemed like the chef didn't have a clue what he was doing. Add mediocre ambience and service, and I was left feeling pretty cheated after the amount of money we spent on the meal. Seriously, I'm a food lover and usually find something to like even if a meal is not spectacular, but this was just BAD. There are SOO many great foodie spots in Culver City. There's no reason to waste your money here.\r \r PROS: creative menu\r CONS: AWFUL food, mediocre ambience & service, very overpriced for the quality more

i had bone marrow for the FIRST time and it was AWESOME 11/26/2008

i have been going out to eat in los angeles for many years, always looking for the next great anything!\r My mom and dad go to wilson in culver city once a week, so i finally tried it, well...............\r myself and my neighbor ate the greatest food! the menu was cooler than s*it!!!\r Small plates, soup, salads, and a la carte items (which are just that, and meant to mix and match with the small plates).\r The prices were soooo good for the times especially, i got a nice warm blend of olives for 5 bucks,\r a lush, spicy mix green salad with apple, pears, gruyere for 8 bucks.\r i was really impressed with my parents for knowing about this place already, and equally proud that they call this place their local hangout, BRAVO to everyone involved, (incl. my folks) really, definately GOOD TIMES. Pros: food more

Good food, but overpriced; AWFUL service 11/24/2008

Located in Culver City near Father's Office and other good restaurants, my friends and I thought that Wilson looked promising. We sat down, but didn't receive water for at least 15 minutes even after we had ordered our food! After finally getting water, the waiter rarely came to refill our glasses. My food did not arrive with my friends' plates, but came 10 minutes later. Also, when we asked for an extra plate and extra sauce, it again took much too long. Overall, I enjoyed the food, but it was overpriced and the service was horrible. I would NOT recommend this restaurant. Pros: Good food, good location Cons: Bad service, overpriced, main entrees come without side dishes, be prepared to WAIT for food and drinks more

GREAT FOODIES PLACE, AND PEOPLE WATCHING PLACE (WE SAW STARS FROM HEROES ENJOYING THEMSELVES, THERE) 10/12/2008

MY MOM AND SISTER AND I ATE HERE, THEIR CILANTRO CHICKEN, I THINK IT WAS THE PESTO ON MY CHICKEN, THAT STANDS OUT FOR ME, WAS FANTASTIC!\r MY SISTER HAD THE FLAVORS OF THAI, SKIRT STEAK, THE BOK CHOY & ONE OTHER THAT ESCAPES ME, WE ALL SHARED THE LAMB RAVIOLI, WE ALL GOT THE BLOODORANGE MARTINI, NICE AND SWEET, WE ENJOYED OURSELVES, WILL COME AGAIN more

Cold Sauce crappy service-the other bad reviews here aren't wrong 10/12/2008

So I thought I would give this place a shot even though I had read some pretty bad reviews on here....I had thought that it couldn't be that bad but unfortunately-This place lived up to them. So disappointing that I am not going into the details and waste my breath. This place just was not good. Period. more

best scallop i have ever had 9/23/2008

i had the best sea scallop of my life, they were huge and perfectly cooked, the sauce was a parmesan fondue, to die for, really interesting menu, and really reasonable prices, 2 of us ate like kings!\r really great Pros: price, food, ambience Cons: notta more

loved my server, loved my food 9/22/2008

we were told to try this place by a chef owner of a restaurant in hollywood,\r so 3 of us went last friday night, \r what a great cafe. they played reggae, which is so rare!!\r we made a reservation in advance, so we were sat almost immediately. also rare!!\r we ordered a bunch of their small plates, a couple of great beers, really top notch! everything great tasting , AGAIN, also rare!\r OH best part, the sweetest server we had, not annoying, really professional\r we all agree, this is a highly recommended cafe, and judging by our experience, coming for one of their cocktail creations up at their big bar, would be fabu too.\r more

Poor Poor Poor POOR FOOD POOR SERVICE POOR LOCATION ON A MAIN STREET 9/20/2008

All I am going to say is that this place was POOR in every aspect except for the dessert. Located on a busy street, slow service, chewy food. I can't believe people are on here raving about how great they thought this place was. Maybe I was there on an off night, but they didn't seem to be able to get anything together-including getting the cork out of the wine bottle. A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Pros: dessert Cons: cost location service more

THE BEST FOOD I HAVE HAD IN A LONGGGG TIME! 9/14/2008

MY BEST FRIEND AND I SAT ON THE FRONT PATIO ON A SUNNY EARLY EVENING LAST WEEK,\r AND HAD SIMPLY THE MOST LOVELY EXPERIENCE AT THIS CAFE SLASH BAR.\r WE ORDERED THE HEIRLOOM SPECIAL , BOTH OF US LOVED IT, I GOT THE RIBS, WHICH WERE SO SUCCULENT, THEY FELL RIGHT OFF THE BONE, MY PAL GOT THE FIG POTATO PASTA, WHICH WAS UNBELIEVABLE\r AND IT WAS A SUNDAY, WHICH HAPPENED TO BE THEIR FIRST SUNDAY OPENING FOR DINNER,,\r WE WILL BE COMING BACK SOON, FOR SURE Pros: the place as a whole more

just left there and couldnt wait to write about WILSON 9/13/2008

we, 6 of us just had a fantastic evening at wilsons\r the staff, the place, the FOOD was INCREDIBLE, we ordered the ribs, the scallops, the octopus, the thai beef salad, chicekn with their mole sauce, the lamb -was outrageous, we heard great things about this place, and reading some of these negative reviews, JUST dont match up, ALL of us agreed what a fabulous meal, our service experience was great, really recommend this place more

Potential of being good but just plain BAD- A million other restaurants that are better to go to. 9/12/2008

Ok- so I gave this place a two time try hoping that they would redeem themselves but they are AWFUL! The food was mediocer at best, the staff awful and rude and the time for everything took forever. This place is a lazy restaurant and gives off the vibe like you should be greatful to be there to be treated like junk. I ended up going around the corner to Fathers Office for a beer and burger afterwards as my chicken was served cold -sauce and all. What a bummer. This place actually had the potential of being good, but they just don't get it. If you are a foodie- you will easily catch all the shortcuts they take. Pros: Just about none- Maybe the water?!?They seat you promptly Cons: Slow, Shortcuts in food, Afwul rude service more

Still so yummy 9/7/2008

My husband and I went to dinner the other night and had such a wonderful time. They have changed their format a little, a ""small plates"" with the most scrumptious choices. My husband had macaroni and cheese with truffles, then the biggest scallops I have ever seen. I had this thai beef salad that I would fully recommend followed by the ""Wilson"" burger that was delicious. I recommend this charming little place tucked away in Culver City. more

AWFUL SERVICE FROM MANAGEMENT SUBSTANDARD FOOD-BETTER VIBES AND FOOD OTHER PLACES 9/6/2008

I too went to Wilons and had the same experience of them not honoring a gift certificate saying they had terminated the agreement with the company.Even if they did terminate it, they legally have to honor all certificates issued.I should know-I'm a lawyer. They were very rude about it like it was my fault that I had the gift certificate to use, but rather than continue to deal with the frustration I decided I would do what is the best practice and tell people about my situation with them. I am not surprised by the review below of what had happened with other people as it also happened to me. I can't blame someone else for hitting the roof because honestly I was almost the same way and had I not been out with my mother, I would have. I had heard from my other friends that have eaten here that the food sometimes good, sometimes bad and that the service is also inconsistent, but I figured I would give it a shot.Seems pretty consistent with the reviews here. I have to say the mole sauce I had on my chicken seemed far from authentic although the enchilada pie was pretty good. I can say my same situation with the bill was handled very poorly by the staff and the food was not enough to get me to come here again. Better food, better service and better vibes at plently of other places. Better to avoid going here. Pros: food Cons: staff professionalism, authenticity of food more

i was there that night 9/3/2008

i am compelled to write re: this review below, i was actually watching what went down, and that is not at all what we witnessed as diners, with forums like this, you can say whatever you want, WHATEVER YOU WANT. so readers make your own opinions based on your own experiences, this guy was very much in the wrong too, we saw no flipping of the bird, and WE were mortified at this patrons behavior, just being honest\r \r EXCELLENT FOOD, SERVICE Pros: cuisine!!! more

MORTIFIED!!!!Such A Shame- Completly Unprofessional-Restaurant Staff Ruined a Great Evening-Will Never Eat Here Again 8/30/2008

To be fair, I will say the food was 100% fantastic and amazing. What blew me away was how 100% unprofessional the staff was & casued me enough to be completly mortified to never come here again. My boyfriend & I had had an amazing dinner here. Service by our waiter was wonderful. The problem came when we went to pay the bill which was over $115 for two people. We had a $50 gift certificate that we included with the credit card payment. The GM returned saying that they no longer accepted the gift certificates and sorry, but basically ""too bad."" He gave a story about telling 4 others that night the same thing and that they would be posting a sign on Monday saying they were no longer accpeting the gift certificates. We told him that it was their issue, not ours that there was an issue with the gift certificates, and very short sighted in a business sense to not accept the gift certificate which would leave a sour taste in our mouth. They were loosing thousands of dollars in residual business over $50.The GM went back to speak with the owner. Keep in mind there was no sign posted saying there was any issue with the gift certificates. The GM came back with the bill and handed me my credit card reciept with the full amount charged. We were shocked and could not believe it. My boyfriend told the GM that it was completly unprofessional and he should be ashamed for treating customers in that manner. At that point the GM lierally said that ""He was someone different outside of work & should kick our asses in the parking lot.""He also gave us the finger IN FRONT OF THE OWNER.Shocked, I then asked to speak with the owner. Michael Wilson came out himself & listened to the recap of what happened, having also seen the interaction with the GM. We still paid 100% for our dinner & happily tipped our waiter 20%, but honestly after being beraided by staff the dinner should have been paid for. He invited us back, but only after ungenuinely saying he wouldn't sleep that night.Crazy Pros: Food Cons: CRAZY UNBELIEVEABLE AWFUL UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE more

Excellent Food, Great Customer Service 4/1/2008

This place was amazing! The staff was friendly and helpful in the meal selection. The bottles of wine were reasonably priced for a restaurant with a nice offering. My friend and I split two appetizers and a pasta. They had a chorizo and crispy polenta appetizer special that just made me smile. We also had the calamari stuffed with beef. It looked a little strange, but was really flavorful and tender. The best part was the potato and fig tortelli with parmesan fondue. The waiter said it would be addictive and he was right. I found myself wanting to lick the bowl...oh yes I did! : ) more

Editorial
  • This stylish bistro in Culver City takes up residence in the former Wilson digs, matching chic decor to ambitious contemporary cuisine. The laidback vibe invites a mix of artists, locals and fashionable business types to hang out and enjoy what chef/co-owner Randall Rosa calls a “culinary social lounge.” The glass-walled corner of a striking modernist building is flanked by sidewalk tables, and there’s more al fresco dining tucked back in the open patio. Bold abstract art, burnished wood tables and smooth dark leather chairs fold themselves into low lighting and a hypnotic soundtrack; vintage black and white films projected over the bar add another artsy twist. The menu features small plates of house-made charcuterie, roasted bone marrow on rosemary toast and squash blossom flatbread with truffle goat cheese and honey creme, while large plates include a 36-hour prime short rib and eggplant polenta Napoleon. For dessert, there's chocolate-hazelnut ravioli and purple pound cake with pistachio-marshmallow creme.
