Avoid this college if you want an education 5/19/2010

Don't come to this school to get a true education. If you need a few units for some reason and can put up with the lousy administration (admissions office and other offices don't even answer the phone half the time!), then go ahead and go there. But if you're looking for a good education, to learn, go to Santa Monica or almost anywhere but here.\r \r The teachers are the WORST. For example, one of my teachers is the head of her Dept.. Yet her syllabus is very poorly written and unclear, AND with many grammar and spelling mistakes. This from the head of a dept.? And furthermore, she is nasty. When you ask a question, you get a nasty reply as if you are stupid for asking a legitimate question (like having her explain her unclear assignment). No teacher should yell at students for asking questions. Even if it was a truly dumb question (which none of the ones I observed her response to, were) she should say, ""See me after class"" and then answer the question. Yelling at people for asking questions is counter productive to learning.\r \r Also 2 of the teachers I have had would just put a note on the door saying no classes tonight, or ""no classes for the next 2 weeks"". I can see an occasional emergency popping up but this seems more like a matter of the teachers just deciding to take some time off to go on vacation in the middle of the semester! And the least they could do was call all the students before they drive across town to go to class, or in at least one case the teacher clearly knew ahead of time she was not going to show up, so why didn't she tell everyone?\r \r I have called numerous times during regular business hours, and never gotten anyone on the phone. This is totally unacceptable. Cut the budget somewhere else.\r \r Avoid this college unless you just need an easy unit or two at a nearby college. \r \r Let me give this College my carefully considered grade:\r D- (D minus) Pros: Close by for some people Cons: Terrible teachers, lousy administration more

Needs better management and funding 9/13/2007

Half of the campus is very run down. Many classes are held in old temporary bungalows and some are in dilapidated mobile homes. The rest of the campus has decent buildings and the Library is remodeled. There is more stuff currently under construction on one corner of campus.\r \r The campus is Dirty. The foliage is not trimmed or maintained. The trash isn't picked up. And if the place has sticky floors, it stays sticky for the whole semester. The Janitors are basically useless.\r \r There is no Cafeteria. Only a bookstore that sells snacks and a Lunch Coach that sells tacos.\r \r For the A&P program many of the instructors are very talented. And they all know their stuff. We have much confidence in them.\r \r Other colleges you can go to are Redstone which is a private college, as well as Long Beach College, and Mount Sac; Orange Coast. All of which teach A&P. Airframe and Powerplant. i.e. Aviation repair. But none of them are as good as West LA College school of Aviation. Pros: Nice relaxing atmosphere Cons: Dirty Campus that's poorly maintained. more
