Service was Great, Steaks were ok!! 1/10/2012

I recently tried Uncle Jack's for the first time. As a long time resident of bayside I decided it was time. I love steaks and have been to what people would consider the best steak house in the city. ie. Sparks, Peter Luger, Morton's, Gallagher's, STK, and several others. \r I will say that there service rivals and surpassed many of the others. When we arrived they gave us the last table available, which was the worst in the house. The hostess already knew we weren't happy with the table and gave us the option of moving after a better one opened up. We didn't even ask her, which I found to be a nice change, considering many of the high end steak Houses treat you like your lucky to be eating in the resturant. \r As for the food it was good. Definitely pricey, apps were 24 and 26 dollars. Steaks were good, not super good but good, and at the top of the price range. They were cooked perfect. The atmosphere was not as snooty as I was expecting. \r I would go there again, if someone else was footing the bill. Over all pretty damn good! more

Only 2 Cappuchino left? ran out of Bread at 8 pm? 9/14/2011

We reserved a table for 6 in advance for my sons Birthday dinner on a Saturday evening. We were seated under the serving window in a cramped corner. horrible, had to watch for elbows in the head, etc. The drinks were weak, for the price they charge, could have put a whole shot in, right? They gave us 2 pieces of fennel bread for the whole table, we asked for more and they said they had no more. The butter was frozen (right out of a freezer)., the service was awful..we had to flag down a waiter for 6 Cappuchino's at the end of our dinner. Didn't get them either.. what I'd like to know is, how can an over priced steakhouse run out of bread in the middle of dinner service and how can they have only 2 cappuchino's in the joint?? Why would that be? aren't they made fresh for each patron at the time of their order? I have never given a review unless it was a good one.. but i had to speak up for Uncle Jack's.. Tracy our waiter suggested the bone in filet minion as the best in the house.. it tasted pretty good after I cut away all the grizzle and such (never had that on a filet minion before) and the price was higher for the bone?? Overall, it was a terrible experience.. I won't even get into the rest rooms downstairs.. If you want a great steak in a wonderful atmosphere, go to Morton's.. This place sucked big time !!! more

Best steak ever! 7/6/2011

love the atmosphere, location and food! Great food more

Hit or Miss 3/8/2011

I have to say that the place is somewhat cozy, The traditional interior of a steakhouse is very becoming and appropiate. Fot the Money It's been hit or miss in my experience. There are plenty of Steakhouses in Queens that are more consistent in product.\r \r The appetizers are fine, the steaks are not representative of the prices but not bad at all. more

Club Music? 11/13/2010

My boyfriend and I like to go to Uncle Jack's for cocktails either before or after having dinner elsewhere. The last two times we went, the drinks were terrible, as well as over-priced. What made the experience even worse was the horrible, loud club music they were playing. The restaurant's decor and atmosphere call for something more along the lines of Frank Sinatra or Ella Fitzgerald. For a ""classy"" restaurant, the pumping dance music was a big turn-off!! We will have our martinis someplace else next time. more

WARNING read an update on this place 10/28/2010

This place went bad, many people talking about it, and I experienced it. So now you get bad steaks, overpriced and a crew that feels they are better than everything. DONT GO HERE, dont listen to the fools who claim its good, many places during down times hire cheaper people and buy cheaper food. If you cant help it but must listen to people, order take out and eat it in a local emergency room under the supervision of experts. I was there on a saturday, many people where there, because you sit on top of each other in this crampy place NOT COZY crampy, you can hear others choking up the cardboard too. The highlight was someone that was dressed normal being told about a dresscode, I didnt hear specifics, but this place and a dresscode = a comedy show. SO MY ADVICE dont listen to your friends who feel its cool to repeat or refer you to places they havent been to a while, you will feel robbed and annoyed and possibly sick when uncle jacks is done with ya more

The best steak house in NYC 11/18/2008

I have been to all the big and popular steak houses in New York and I find Uncle Jacks to be the best. Peter Lugers has a better steak then Uncle Jacks but not by much. Uncle Jack's steak is melt in your mouth, there appetizer are amazing and the lobster tails are one of the best i've ever had. The service at Uncle Jacks is amazing, I have not had an emptly glass for more then 30 seconds while dinning there. \r \r Overall the experience and atmosphere of Uncle Jack's surpasses any other steak house I have been to. Like I said Luggers had a slightly better steak but I really did not like the atmosphere of the fact I had to sit on a wooden bench while eating at a steak house. more

the best for steak 11/14/2008

hands down my favorite restaurant ever. i don't even get anything fancy, but any chef who can make my steak actually well-done, but still melt-in-my-mouth delicious wins at life. every details of the food is interesting and delicious and the flavors melt together in the most perfect and sometimes unusual ways. I would recommend to anyone who want to eat well prepeared steak in Manhattan Pros: steak, steak, steak Cons: park more

Best Steakhouse in Bayside, Queens! 10/24/2008

Best steakhouse in this area!!! Highly recommended excellent service and food....Now, please do not go here and order fish....it is okay, not great, but you are going to a STEAKHOUSE....if you stick with the usual porterhouse for two I guarantee you will be 100% satisfied...ohh and the crab cakes are also worth it for appetizer! Best I have had in a long time!!! Pros: Good FOOD! Cons: Cant be walk in on a Friday or Saturday night... more

BEST STEAKHOUSE IN THE AREA !! 8/8/2008

Pros: GREAT STEAKS, GOOD SERVICE Cons: Parking in the area more

Can't wait to go back! 1/25/2008

Been here several times now and have come away happy (and stuffed) every time. Whether it's a romantic dinner with your spouse or a business dinner with associates, you won't go wrong here. Not as ""famous"" as other spots like Peter Lugar's or Morton's but I think the steaks here are better than both. The wait staff is always attentive and the food is cooked to perfection...never overdone! Granted, it's not cheap to dine here but it's worth the money in my opinion. As the title says, I can't wait to go back and would recommend to anyone, anytime. The only possible downer to some is that the cozy atmosphere maybe a liiiiiiittle tight for some, but no worse than eating at some of the hottest spots in the City. more

GREAT STEAK AND EXCELLENT SERVICE !!! 9/20/2007

Wow,Uncle Jacks serves the best meal in,NYC !!! Fresh mozarella and tomatoes, baked clams-full of flavor. The dry-aged porterhouse is out of this world, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach-yum.The Captain Peter was excellent-the sevice throghout night was impeccable,he was full of energy and personality !!! I will definitely be coming back with my friends !!! Pros: Awesome service, great atmosphere, great steak !!! more

Pleasantly suprised 8/22/2007

I went to uncle jacks' recently for a friends birthday. I had never been there before and wasn't expecting it to be that good, however, i must say i was very suprised at how delicious the food was. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, and everything we ordered was excellent with the exception of the kobe steak. It was tough and rubbery and just not worth it. Stick with the simple stuff and you'll be happy. Pros: great location Cons: kobe steak more

Ok food, absense of Managers on the floor, but Great Service regardless 6/4/2007

I took my husband to uncle Jack's on my trio to New York . Once we stepped in the restaurant, there was that great gentleman in a nice tux, he greated us very nicely and directed us to the reservation desk. The person behind the desk was a POOR representation of the restaurant for the lack of better word,. He treated us with very bad manners, a guy with a strange american accent and no brain. Once we got to our table our captain was the guy who greated us first at the door.. He really changed our impression about Uncle Jack in general. He was a dark and handsom guy, who had a great hospitality experience, a firm attitude, he was also. very educated and well spoken. Captain Riad was a TRUE captain, what a great personality. I am being a bit judgemental because I work for the Biggest name in the hospitality industy and i know how to analyze people who work in the field. Captain Riad gave us the best service and the most education about Kobe beef and the history of uncle Jack. I had the Akaushi and my wife had the Kobe was ok but not great . Thanks to the service that made up for the lousy experience at the front desk. Pros: Good Sevice, Ok Food Cons: Loud music, noisy atmosphere, overrated more

GREAT PORTERHOUSE AND EXCELLENT SERVICE ! 6/2/2007

My first time in this restaurant was on mathers day, crabcakes ,porterhouse for 2 garlic mash and cream spinach ,wow i never have better steak before ,my mather was very happy,my captain Peter did great job! We be back soon! Pros: great atmosphere, great steak, great service more

GREAT steaks but a little small and noisy 5/15/2007

I took my wife here for her birthday dinner one time, I've made reservation couple of weeks in advance and when we got there we still needed to wait like 15-20 minutes for our table. I guess it shows they are good and EVERYONE goes there. It usually doesn't bothers me too much waiting for tables in a good place but I was a little upset that time b/c it is for my wife's birthday and don't want to spent the night waiting for table when we have plans afterward. Also having to wait that long even with a reservation is just wrong.\r When we finally got to our table we had to squeezed through sea of people, tables and chairs on top of that we almost got run down by a waitor.\r I think we saw and spoke to our waitor for like the whole 5 minutes in total from the time he came to take or drink order to him returning my credit card.\r The food hands down great. Great steaks and lobster. The crab cake is our of this world. I can see why this place is so busy.\r I think they do have a cigar room in lower level which I wanted to go but can't due to running late for my next event for my wife's birthday from waiting for table and the waitor.\r I am only recommend this place b/c of their food but don't expect anything else. Pros: all their food Cons: too small, always crowed, long wait for table even with reservation, unattentive wait staff more

Nice place 2/13/2007

i love this place its so calm , i cant belive how great it is , i realy love this place ,, i realy do everybody should everyone should come here , yea i think so i love it yes i realy do ,,, i lover it kiity night knows whats best for lovers more

The very best. 11/21/2006

The steaks here are great. The Best. But it takes more than just a good steak to be the best in class. The sides are perfect. We shared two sides between three people, and every bite was a flavor explosion. The wine list was extensive, and also had some familiar offerings. \r \r What takes this place over the top is the ambiance and service. The bar is a gorgeous hand carved dark wood with sculptures and carvings. Everything about the inside and outside is first class, and no expense was spared. \r \r The service was the most attentive and unobtrusive I have ever encountered. I have heard people complain that the waiters hovered over them like servants. Perhaps they would be more comfortable in a drive-thru. During our entire meal there were servants catering to our needs. They didn't chat with us, and we barely noticed them. They seamlessly filled our waters and cleaned our table while we carried on our conversation and had an excellent meal. \r \r Excellent food and service in NYC does not come cheap. Steaks were $35 a la carte when we went. Nothing else has ever come close to the experience.\r Pros: Best Steaks, Best Service Cons: expensive more
