Best Dive Bar in Milwaukee 11/4/2007

You could probably get high at Thurmans. Plus, nice darts and awesome "sliders" are always fun. They could use some more white fine grained sand, but we keep scooping it up with our credit cards to keep playing. Pros: Sliders (mini curling) more

My Kind of Bar 11/20/2002

Thurman's 15 is one of the great bars on the east side if not in all of Milwaukee. The bartenders are top notch people and the atmosphere is something to really enjoy. My compliments to Thurman's 15 and its staff for having such a good place to hang out. Pros: inexpensive drinks, good crowd, good customers more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Named after former New York Yankee Thurman Munson, Thurman's joyously celebrates the evolution of counterculture. An enormous poster of Jerry Garcia greets you at the door, and Grateful Dead Christmas lights twinkle over the long, handmade brass bar. The room is scented by incense, and the walls are papered with baseball and trippy band posters. Thurman's also has what might be the most encyclopedic jukebox in town, featuring '60s psychedelia (Frank Zappa, the Grateful Dead), up-and-coming Bluegrass artists and more. This is where 50-somethings in tie-dyed clothes and 20-something Phish followers play shuffleboard, darts and pinball.

    The Booze
The signature Flower Nectar combines vodka, 151, apple and peach Schnapp's, grenadine, and orange and cranberry juices. There are about 30 on-tap and bottled domestics and imports, as well as on-tap microbrews like Lakefront, Sprecher, Riverwest Stein and Louie's Demise.
