Great Food! 3/30/2012

I had gone to this restaurant hoping to catch its buffet but unfortunately missed it by an hour our so. But nonetheless I was very pleased and satisfied with the food. I went with a friend who is definitely a meat eater but thought that the soy meat were very good and ended up finishing all the dishes. I definitely plan on coming back and trying out their buffet! more

One of the best veggie restaurants in town 11/17/2011

This is one of the best vegetarian restaurants in town. The food is always full and the service is good. I would definitively recommend this restaurant to anybody who wants to try vegetarian more

Go there for the FOOD! 2/17/2010

If you want ambiance, decor and a personal server at the snap of your fingers, do not waste your time going to Suma. However, if you want great vegetarian, Chinese food, dive right in! You will not get much in way of decor. The place is small, it's often packed at the lunch buffet and the owners do take up two tables as their ""office,"" but the food is fantastic! I love orange chicken and their version tastes no different than the real thing. \r \r Some people complain that the owner is grumpy, but I've never experienced that. No, he doesn't smile a lot, but he will get you checked out quickly and calls for more food when he sees something run out. The waitress is very friendly and very happy to serve her customers. Another complaint that I have seen is that their buffet is always empty. Well, that can be expected when every table in the place fills up! The food is good and it goes quickly. \r \r I went with a large group today and we called in ahead of time to warn them that 8 of us were going be showing up at the same time. When we got there, they greeted us by name and directed us to a table in the back that they had reserved for us. We weren't expecting it, we just wanted to make sure they had enough food for us all! Good food, good people, great price...what more do you need? Pros: Great food, Purely vegetarian Cons: Small more

The Rude Veggie Cafe 11/5/2009

I've been going to the Suma Veggie Cafe for years for dietary reasons (no, I'm not a vegan) and have sent them a lot of business. Yet, they are never friendly and get downright rude when someone asks them to replenish the often empty buffet. My wife has refused to accompany me because the haughty owners. I've tolerated their bad attitude up til now, but no more! Yesterday, I rode there on my bicycle to get some lunch, but they have NO place outside to secure my bike. My bike is rather expensive and it would be easy for someone to steal it if left outside unsecured. So, I attempted to enter with my bike and very politely asked the old woman at the cash register if she had a safe place to park my bike inside. Despite the fact that she recognized me - a customer for nearly 10 years - she raised her voice and raised her finger at me and kept repeating in a very gruff, loud tone that the bike must stay outside. So, I said, ""Fine, then I won't eat here...not now, not ever!"" And I left, never to return. Pros: Desent Food Cons: Very RUDE owners, Buffet Often Empty, Dirty more

NOT VEGAN but they have always claimed it is 6/23/2008

Review: Anytime before today I would have given this restaurant 5 stars without thinking twice. I have touted them for five years and have supported them when attacked by other vegans that I know.\r \r Their literature and their menus clearly state that they have no animal products and no dairy. Yet today while asking the owner to make sure there was no soy milk in the vegetable curry, overhearing another customer talking of a potential soy allergy, the owner informed me that the curry contains cow's milk and always has.\r \r They have told people for years that this restaurant is vegan and has no animal products and no dairy. They still have menus and literature that says so. The curry is not marked as containing dairy.\r \r Please do not patronize this establishment until you call and ask if they have removed either their signs and literature stating ""No Animal Products and No Dairy"" or they remove these products from their food. \r \r Prior to today I have averaged no less than once a week visit for the past 5-6 years. Many weeks I would eat there 3 times.\r \r I do not appreciate being lied to. I will post back when this issue is resolved. Until then, please let other vegans know about this, and anyone that may have dairy allergies. They also have a long history of giving out literature saying the food is great for people with allergies.\r Pros: Decent Food, Good Price, Decent Location Cons: Food Not Labelled Properly, Have claimed No Dairy for 11 years but dairy has been used since day 1 more

Empty Buffet,Owners Unfriendly 2/20/2008

I have been to this buffet many times. The owners,a woman and her husband, are always so unfriendly, bordering on rude.I went yesterday and waited while three other people were served their drinks before anyone asked me what I wanted to drink. The waitress is very sweet, but wasn't around, husband was serving drinks. The main problem was very little food on buffet.I spent my whole lunch hour waiting and nothing was really replenished. The food is usually pretty good here,I like their veggie versions of chicken and beef.Owners-you win,I won't be back.I don't know what I ever did to upset you.I really used to enjoy your food, despite your rudeness. Pros: veggie food, usually pretty good Cons: owners are RUDE!!! more

Excellent variety, quality and taste. 2/16/2008

Not a fancy place but the food is great - nice variety and very tasty. If you are a vegetarian this is the place for you. Pros: Excellent buffet - nice variety of foods Cons: No frills but that does not matter when this food is this good more

BEST VEGETARIAN FOOD IN TEXAS 12/5/2007

This is the best vegetarian/vegan restaurarant ever! I've been a vegetarian for 8 years and i've also tried many veggie restaurants in Texas, New York and Alaska. But this by far, is the best. The buffet is constantly being filled with hot and tasty food and if you go in the evening the portions are very generous.\r One draw back, it is an extremely small place. You are sitting very close to other people and the buffet area is even smaller. Other than that the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. This place is even good for meat eaters. My friend loves it and she's an avid carnivore. By the way, the orange chicken is superb!\r GO THERE NOW! more

Veggie Chinese 10/6/2007

There are not many all vegetarian or vegan restaurants anywhere in Dallas, however, if you like Chinese food you can go to Suma Veggie. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired and the owner can rub you the wrong way as soon as you step through the door but the food is irresistible. I once saw him tell a customer to not sit at a 4 top because there was only 2 people and that they would have to sit at a two top table, mind you there was only 4 people total in the entire restaurant! With this being said, just try and find the kind of food that you get here anywhere else, IN THE STATE! I have eaten at most places in east, north, and south Texas and have yet to find a place that appalls me as much when I enter and yet makes me want to come back each week. Food is fresh and flavorful while also being unique. Also the hot and iced tea are great and included in the meager price. The only downside is that if you want your buffet to go, it is quite a bit more. I've only ordered off the menu once, but the real bargain is the buffet, which is 11-2 M-F and 12-3 Sat. I wish they would open Sunday seeing how the only other option is the poorly done Veggie Garden down the street. Suma has better food and service than most buffets and it's vegan/vegetarian to boot so give it a try. We can only hope that one day they will clean up the place! Pros: Great food, good food, even better food. Cons: Building is outdated by 100 years. more

Delicious Vegetarian ""FAKE MEAT"" 7/16/2006

I lived in Dallas for a year. It was a tough year. Texas isn't my style. But, I was able to eat some of the best vegan/vegetarian food EVER when I was there. I highly recommend the sesame chicken; although if you like spicy food there are many other great options for that. Suma Veggie Cafe is the only buffet I have ever not only liked, but LOVED! The buffet which is available for weekday lunch is a great way to taste a little bit of everything they offer. The buffet is cheap, fresh, and delicious! The service is great and the atmosphere is inviting. Many non vegetarians found this restaurant as one of their favorites! Yes, even if you are a meat eater you will enjoy the tastes of the Suma Veggie Cafe. Pros: Everything on the menu is vegetarian, delicious, a rare find Cons: location more
