LOVE Dr. Michel 11/1/2011

I have had two babies with Dr. Michel and I think she is awesome. She is very down to earth and easy to talk to. Her nurse Dawn is also very capable and helpful. I actually look forward to my appointments because it is like seeing an old friend. She is knowledgable and helped talk me down off a ledge several times after too many pregnancy related google searches. Love her. more

Think Twice Before Trying 4/2/2011

I have been a patient at Oakwood Women's Center for several years. I've stuck around because of the occasional positives that I see and because I believe that one visit isn't always representative of the quality of the office, but now I'm reconsidering.\r \r On my first visit in my late teens, I told my doctor that I was virgin. She pressed me several times, asking if that was really true. I found that embarrassing and offensive!\r \r I have also been put off by the rude behavior and inattentiveness of several of the receptionists.\r \r I took an afternoon off work for my most recent visit and got a call last minute saying that my doctor had to cancel. To the center's credit, they worked with me to put me with another doctor so that I wouldn't have to lose more work time. I was appreciative and had a great experience with Dr. Maunder. I also felt hopeful about a new prescription that I decided to try. \r \r When I went to the pharmacy the following day, my prescription had not been called in. I called the after-hours line and was connected to a doctor who seemed incredibly irritated that I had called. He informed me that my problem was not an emergency and that my drugs would work as well if I started on Monday as if I did that day. \r \r As a teacher, I believe I understand the incredible demands that can be placed on those in service professions. At the same time, I take professional pride in doing whatever I can for those who need my help, even if I am inconvenienced, and particularly if my organization is at fault. I always try to bear in mind that I am dealing with human lives and that my attitudes and actions carry significant weight. \r \r No, my call was not a ""medical emergency,"" but I didn't realize that attempting to get my medicine would be so irritating and offensive to a doctor. The condescending, dismissive, and callous way I was treated did not at all match Oakwood Women's Center's motto of ""compassionate health care."" Kindness and understanding would have made such a difference in my life at that point.\r \r I definitely deserve better than Oakwood Women's Center seems ready to give. more

Great Place 2/7/2010

Dr. Michel is super nice . I think her office is pretty good and she is an excellent md. Pros: Friendly quick and respectful more

Terrible experience, terrible staff, terrible service. Absolutely horrible! 1/6/2009

I had heard so many good things about Oakwood Women's Center and decided to go there for my 2nd pregnancy. On my first visit there, I was asked numerous times if my first pregnancy was an abortion! And the staff also treated me as if I was nothing more than some knocked up teenager. (I am very young looking for my age but I am happily married and soon to be mother of two.) My first child was a C-Section because he had gotten stuck, and before ever seeing my records (and hardly even seeing me) the doctor had already made the determination by looking at my husband (he is 6ft and I am 5'2"") that I would not be able to have a VBAC. I attempted to switch doctors after the initial visit, and they refused to let me. Aren't I the one paying for THEIR services?? They finally relented and set me up with a doctor who was brand new to OBGYN and on my first appointment, I waited over an hour and a half to see her. And when she did see me, she came in and out so fast that I didn't even get to ask her any questions! Once again, after another very unpleasant visit, I asked that I be able to choose my own doctor, and I was once again refused that option. And the lady giving me this information couldn't even give me a reason why! Eventually, I left Oakwood and found another practice and I am SO, SO much happier with them!! They are friendly, understanding and CARING! When I left Oakwood, they owed us $1,800 in a refund for their ""services""...It took them over 3 months to send the check, (we are STILL waiting for the check) and in the meantime they wouldn't return our calls either. Basically, every staff member was rude and uncaring to the worst extreme. If I could give 0 stars I would. Horrible, horrible place and I would never recommend it to anyone! Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything, staff, service, waiting time, quality of care. Just everything. more

Oakwood is a great place! I would never go anywhere else! 1/3/2008

I was referred to Dr. Mark Maunder about 10 years ago when I had a pap test come back abnormal. I've been seeing him ever since then. I saw him for my two pregnancies, one was ectopic. He's very understanding and sweet and I wouldn't go anywhere else for my OB/GYN needs. I would definetly recommend him and the other doctors in the office! There were a few times during my first pregnancy I had to see another doctor in the office but they made me feel just as comfortable and taken care of. There are one or two people in the receptionist area that can be a bit short/rude sometimes, but the doctors and nurses themselves make up for any shortcomings there. My sister saw Dr. Fitzpatrick for years before she moved and he delivered her daughter 19 years ago. All of these doctors are the nicest doctors I have ever known! Pros: Doctors and nurses are patient, understanding, caring, and personal. Cons: Receptionist can be a bit rude at times. more
