cheap tickets 9/13/2005

You get to watch movies on the big screen here for as less as $3 a ticket. But you have to wait a few weeks after the release of the movie as it is screened here much later. The theater is small and they do not have ample parking space. It is easy to get tickets but the place is usually crowded. Tickets are priced around $5 but on Tuesdays the special rates are $3 a ticket. Good deal to wait for some time and watch here unless you want to watch in a big theater in the center of town. more

Springdale Movie Showcase 8/18/2005

State Cinema isn’t sure what it wants to be. For the last few decades it has mainly been a second-run theater. Then it tried to capture the first-run market but that didn’t seem to work out for them. Now they have opened a second screen for art movies while maintaining their second-run business. With all the large chains buying up small theaters, there is something comforting about going to a theater where the ticket taker also sells the popcorn. I used to go to the State Cinema when I was a kid. Now I take my kids. This may not be the most up-to-date or cleanest theater but I appreciate its continuity and connection to the neighborhood. more

Movies the way they should be 8/17/2005

The State Cinema is a great place to see films when you're not looking to drop $20 on seeing a movie. Not only is regular admission only $5 but on Tuesday it drops to $3. The State Cinema looks to be family owned and operated. The popcorn and drinks are cheap and the seats are comfy. The big theatre is enormous and the smaller theatre is stadium seating with these huge reclining chairs. Movie prices have gone sky high so the State Cinema is a needed retreat. Bring a sweater to the movies though. It's pretty cold in there. more
