Live up to its reputation 4/6/2009

I had always heard about this place and finally had the chance to eat here. There were four of us dining and the experience for was fantastic for everybody. The dining room is small and we did have to wait about 10 minutes to be seated, because the party at our designated table wasn't in a hurry to leave. Once we were seated, everything seemed to progress flawlessly. We got our drinks, ordered, salads, soups, entrees, desserts, bill. The food was some of the best I've eaten. The best part about Sanfords was that we were there for over 3 hours, but it felt like 1 hour. The flow of the service was perfect. If you like trying out 'fancy' restaurants, you owe it to yourself to visit here at least once. Pros: exquisite food and service Cons: small waiting area more

Distinguished Dining 1/9/2009

This is a restaurant you have to appreciate. It is fine dining. No bar area and an older crowd. However, it is one of the best meals you can find in Milwaukee. Pros: Great meal Cons: stuffy and an older, less diverse client base more

Milwaukee Dining at its Finest! 9/2/2008

Sanfords is the place you want to go to either truly impress someone, or just be impressed yourself! The dining room is rather small, so you'll need reservations. We ate there on a week night, and even though everyone arrives at roughly the same time, the service was perfect. It appeared that each server only has two tables so that he/she can be appropriately attentive. The menu is first rate and everything is fresh and imaginitive. We enjoyed our food. The wine list is rather extensive, but there are many affordable options. Save room for the dessert, and you might want to try the sampler of infused vodkas. There were quite tasty. Pros: Service, Menu, Food Cons: Expensive, but you're paying for a first class dinner! more

Great service 1/22/2007

I was very excited for my experience at Sanford's. With all that I read and heard I don't think that I could ever have given the food a fair shake. The menu was impressive and my dinner was good, but not to the level of one of the top restaurants in the U.S. But definitely one of the tops in the city. I could give a better evaluation of the ambience and service. The ambience is good for a small group of food lovers but was below acceptable for a date experience. The service was the best around though. Timing was on the spot. Approach was fitting for the atmosphere. Enjoy this restaurant with a small group of friends but don't think of it for a date. Pros: Service was great Cons: not a date spot more

Fine Dining at its best 10/26/2006

Celebrated our wedding anniversary there. The food was wonderful and the overall experience was great. One small thing, the tables were way too close to each other. Felt like we packed in there like sardines. They really should move to a larger space. Pros: Food! Food! Food! Cons: Tables too close to each other. Could hear everyone's conversations. more

This is not a restaurant, this is an experence 3/13/2005

If I ate here more than few times a year my head would explode. The tastes are fanstically complex. I recommend small bites so you can savor the dishes as long a possible. Order the chef's menu with the wine pairings, you can go wrong. Avoid Saturday and ""holliday"" nights like the plague. These are the nights when the uptight people come and ruin the experence. Pros: Chef's menu, Service, The best of the best Cons: Saturday Night more

great dinner spot 5/7/2004

I have lived in Milwaukee all of my life and I have been to plenty of the city's best restaurants. I looked this place up to take my girlfriend to for her birthday and I was really impressed. first off, the decor was excellent and the staff was very polite and courteous. Then the meal came and that was the icing on the cake. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for something different than the same old restaurants in Milwaukee. Pros: decor, staff, food more

Exquisite 2/11/2003

While it was expensive, it was well worth it. For me; probably a once in a lifetime experience. I've never experienced food prepared so exquisitely. Cons: Expensive more

Excellent 8/1/2002

Supurb service, food, presentation, wine, deserts, decor. The best restuarant in Milwaukee. more

Oh my! Absolutely delicious 6/18/2002

In a city lacking in it's upscale dining options, Sanford is a restuarant that can compete with Trotter's in Chicago and many of the famous NYC establishments. I've gone there twice, and both times I was swept off of my feet by the innovative combinations of flavors. The flourless chocalate cake is excellent. Also, the risotto with the asparagus sauce was also great. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who's looking for a romantic night in Milwaukee or just looking for fabulous food. Granted the meal is perhaps the most expensive in Milwaukee, but it's definitely worth it. more
