The Best Asian Cuisine in Denton by Far 2/14/2010

Royal East Asian Cuisine is a fantastic place to treat yourself to fine authentic asian cuisine. The Atmosphere is simple yet authentic. The wait staff is extremely knowledgeable and it is obvious that they respect the owners and chef (who they all call mama- which I assume means that she has been cooking these foods for some time). The waiter offered us his recommended Sake bottles to choose from, which he explained that the staff had ordered around 25 different Sakes and had taste trials to choose which ones to offer there. The sake was perfect for the meal (Yaegaki Nigori). The Sushi was perfectly executed both in presentation, freshness and taste. The Tuna sashimi was ridiculously fresh- bright red and full of flavor. Both the squid and pork dishes we ordered were prepared perfectly and were explained in detail by the waiter. To finish off we ordered the tempura ice cream and the banana tempura with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and we were all in ecstasy. The meal is pretty pricey- it is fair to call this place a high end meal with high end prices but the food is definitely worth the price. Highly Recommended! Enjoy! Pros: Great Sushi, Great Korean Dishes, Fantastic Sake Selection Cons: It's hard to think of something negative, maybe hard to find more

Best sushi in all of DFW 2/2/2009

I've been to Nobu, Chaucers and Blue Fish and Royal East is by far better! Other places might be better name recognized but that's about it. Outside looks like ordinary shopping but inside its cozy. The sushi is always fantastic! I've never had any problems and the fish is always fresh. Joe, the sushi chef, knows his stuff. There's so much to choose from, I eat there at least twice a week. His secret roll is awesome and the monkey roll and kamikaze are killer. Korean food is really good too, galbi short ribs are my favorite. Try it out... guranteed you'll be happy! Pros: Great Food All The Time more

Unarguably the Single Best Sushi Restaurant in Denton and Beyond! 12/7/2008

From the outside, you'd never know that Royal East is actually a very inviting, quaint, and intimate little restaurant where great food and service are obviously held top priorities. Joe, the sushi chef, is clearly a professional, sending out beautifully ornate dishes bearing even more spectacular cuts of fish and uniquely created sushi rolls. We have been to this restaurant several times (some might call us ""regulars""). Each time we are there, we are greeted (by name!) by any of the staff, who are often the same faces, making it easy to feel welcome. With the exception of one new server, we have had nothing but the best of service! The menu is extensive, and our servers are always knowledgeable and helpful, and are more than willing to accommodate any changes to the menu that we ask for. All in all, there is no other place in Denton that we would consider going for sushi now that we have found Royal East. This is Denton's best kept secret! Pros: Welcoming and Personal Service Cons: Don't go on a busy night!! more

Awful 8/4/2008

We used to enjoy this restaurant, but on our last visit we were appalled. I ordered my usual sushi, and it was delivered after a long wait. The fish LOOKED not-fresh, it had a very fishy odor, and felt rubbery to the touch. I was shocked that the server dared deliver it, and even more shocked that the sushi chef would let it leave his hands. The server was pushing ""rolls"" and I can see why. With all the junk they add to the rolls, the poor condition of the fish would be masked. Needless to say, I did not eat the fish - and the serve didn't question why. Until they hire a new sushi chef, I'm done. I'm sad though, because this used to be a favorite. Pros: Nice interior for a casual Asian place. Cons: Poorly kept fish - a horrid thing for a sushi place. more

great food, bad service 5/22/2008

This cozy little Korean restaurant is pleasantly decorated and houses a full sushi bar - not that you should ever eat in though. The food is very good considering how far it is from Dallas it is, but unfortunately that also means the food comes at a fair premium. However, I find myself eating from there at least once a month. The food really is quite good. The banchan (side dishes) is almost nonexistent though. And onto the the worst part. The service. The wait staff seems to have been hired out of the weirdest cranny out of Austin. Too relaxed, too pushy, too arrogant, too unprofessional, too candid with their guests. One guy was more than clearly drunk when he served me. It's quite enough to never go back, but the food is just too good. Do yourself a favor and order to go. The food is totally worth it. more

enjoyable food 3/17/2006

Located in a dimly lit strip mall. Interior is well lit and much larger than it appears from the outside. More utilitarian than romantic. The sushi runs approx $3-5 for two pieces and approx $10-12 per roll. The usual suspects are on the menu: tuna, yellow tail, salmon, red snapper, octopus, freshwater eel, and numerous takes on the California roll. The fish tasted fresh and we tried the fish varieties mentioned. Rather than a C-roll, we tried the UNT roll (a TWU roll is also available) and the Wasabi roll. Both were fine, but not something we'd order again. Rather, we'll try out a few other rolls on the menu when we return. Currently, the restaurant is offering $1 sushi happy hour on Mondays thru Thurs and will probably be when we make our return visit. They also offer Korean and Chinese menu items. more
