The Rome Area History Museum tells of the not only Rome, Georgia's history, but that of the regional northwest Georgia. There is Cherokee Indian History, a section on Civil War (history and memorabilia) and there are the War's local efforts too. Sections also include, the Medical History, the Three Rivers Cotton and Commerce section, Berry and Shorter College information and history, Family History and the Research Room. Located on 305 Broad Street in downtown, the museum charges $3 regularly, $2 for seniors, and $1.50 for children. I have noticed that their are alot of tour groups and field trips to the museum. You can call the museum if you are interested in additional info or directions at (706) 235-8051. There is many fine tours going on all the time. The museum is funded by private supporters only and really isn't much to look at from the streetfront, but inside holds a wealth of knowledge. Rome is approximately 65 miles NE of Atlanta, and 70 miles south of Chattanooga. It is a historical hub of medical and wartime affairs. There is a special exhibit of Gone With The Wind replicas, including photos, collections, costumes, etc. from the book and movie from Margaret Mitchell. GWTW souveniers are sold in the giftshop. Pros: always interesting to see what happened near to you, or in your home city Cons: another niche setting that some may not appreciate more
