Reminders of my Brooklyn deli 7/14/2006

What a random, but absolutely pleasant surprise! I noticed a steady stream of customers on a blazing hot day and wandered in myself. Go straight to the deli, where you'll meet Rosario, a wonderful man who will answer all your questions. Ask him for recommendations and he will gladly oblige and give you samples while he eyes your reaction. Today, he suggested the speck, copa seca (like prosciutto), asiago and manchego for an antipasto and topped with some delicious olive oil bread. Will definitely be stopping by at least once a week. Pros: Excellent selection of deli meats and cheeses, ample parking more

A great little place 1/26/2005

If you can get over the pungent smell of cheese that will blast you as you enter the small market, then you should definitely check this place out. Tonight I am going there to buy a stack of pizzelles. I love their fresh cheeses and Italian meats. I've found their produce to be less-than-fresh sometimes, but other than that, it's a fun place to go. It's a very ""mom-and-pop"" atmosphere. Pros: Unique Italian foods, Easy to find Cons: Pungent smell, not-so-fresh produce more

A little bit of Italy 6/13/2002

There's nothing like having a family own Italian Deli in the neighborhood. the produce is great and the deli is even better. Pros: always open Cons: gets crowded more

Ask for Rosario. Say, cheese! 5/20/2002

On the sidewalk out front are big cardboard bins of oranges, melons and grapefruit. Inside, there's more fresh fruit, bags of nuts and dried fruit, cannelini beans, rustic pasta, olive oil, anchovies, chiantis and barolos. But at Roma's, it's all about the cheese. Rosario operates the slicer behind the counter. If you're a regular customer, he unwraps what you want as soon as you step inside -- the block of aged mozzarella, the wheels of pepato (pepper cheese) or parmesan reggiano. ""Have some fresh rolls,"" he says. ""How you been?"" And he hands you a sliver to taste while he starts to slice. more
