Excellent. We drive 126 miles one way to eat here, and this is our 4 th visit. Have not had anything that wasn't great. \r \r This evening we had the Grilled Shrimp App. It was delicious. The shrimp (6) were large, plump, and cooked perfectly, and served in just the right amount of a scampi type sauce.\r \r We also had the Fried Shrimp (3) and Red Snapper Fillet. The shrimp were large and butterflied, and the fillet was crispy on the outside, moist and flaky inside. I had mine with a baked potato, hubby chose the home fries, which are actually more like potato chips and not the home fries you would normally think. Good nonetheless.\r \r The salad is simple iceberg and a couple of grape tomatoes, but we don't come here for the side salad. The dressings are homemade and very tasty. I had Ranch and Hub had Thousand Island. The bread served was a crusty type and the bottom a bit tough.\r \r Decor is exactly what you would expect for a beach type restaurant. Surf boards, oars, ships, fish and the like adorn the walls and even ceiling. Tables are covered in the standard issue plastic table cloths.\r \r All the staff was attentive, smiling and making sure everything was to our liking without hovering.\r \r This is no ""fine dining"" establishment. It is great food at reasonable prices. more

Crab Florentine - a win win 8/8/2011

I just returned from Surfside Beach where I had the opportunity to eat at several of the establishments, except Kitty's which I am saddened because it was closed when I went by. But the first place we ate at was The Red Snapper Inn. There were both good and bad points about the place although nothing that would keep me from going back. \r \r Bad news first- The only thing that really turned me off about it was the price per glass for wine. I can get a good glass of wine at home for $6. The glass was very small and cost $8. So either buy the bottle or forgo the hooch. Now for the good stuff. I ordered the crab florentine and my friend ordered the Red Snapper a la Greque. We shared the plates and were so full we never even touched the baked potato or broccolli that came with the meal. The prices were what you would expect to pay for seafood. Comparable to Joes Crab Shack or Red Lobster. Our waitress, Barbara, was very sweet and did a good job. They were very busy on a Friday night during dinner rush so we were patient because we could see her working as fast as she could to keep all of her tables up. The decor was nautical simple and i thought it was charnming because most of the items looked like they had been taken from homes of locals in the village. I liked that. Met the manager on arrival and he was polite as well. Good experience overall. more

Don't waste your time, let alone your money. 6/13/2011

Horrible experience. The only good thing about the visit is that it was close to our hotel and our waitress was very friendly.\r \r My wife and I stayed on Surfside the weekend of 6/10/2011. We decided we wanted seafood for supper and went to the Red Snapper. My wife ordered the soft shelled crab, sauteed. I ordered the grilled jumbo shrimp. As other reviews state, the sauteed crab was deep fried to oblivion. The waitress said that they use a batter to sautee the crab. Using a batter is the definition of deep frying. My shrimp were frozen shrimp that were obviously boiled, and had to de-vein all of them. Not what you'd expect for the prices you are paying.\r \r If this was a seafood "joint" where you expect to pay only $8 to $10 dollars a meal, I'd say this is a great place. Almost everything on the menu is more than $20, and is not worth much more than the dollar value menu at McDonalds. \r \r The manager is a horrible @ss. I watched him interact with our waitress, chewing her out for doing more

Nasty Food 6/2/2010

My boyfriend and I had dinner after a long day on the beach on Memorial Day, 2010, just wanting some good seafood. He ordered the sauteed softshell crab which looked like it had been deep fried to the point of being burnt and tasted as such. I had the special which was snapper ponchatrain which was inedible. The salad should have been an indication that the meal was not going to be that great. We had to literaly eat our salad with a knife and fork as it was not cut up at all. Our waitress came by 5 minutes afer serving our meal and asked my boyfriend if he needed a to-go box for his crab and he told her ok because it was inedible. She sent the manager over to our table and he asked what the problem was with the food and he told him that the crab was not very good. The manager then said that usually people that didn't like their food didn't get a to-go box. I replied that it was for our dog. He asked if my meal was ok and I told him no that it wasn't very good and that usually more

A wonderful surprise 5/31/2010

The Red Snapper Inn was recommended to us by a worker at our boat storage facility. She told us it was hands down the best place in the area, and we were so glad we took her advice.\r \r The decor of the building is very casual, and I went in with low expectations. Our party ordered a wide range of items on the menu, and each person raved about their selection. The fried shrimp was the best I have ever eaten. We all agreed that every future boat excursion will involve a stop at the Red Snapper Inn. Pros: Great food! Cons: Unpreposessing exterior and decor more

Red Snapper Inn is one of Freeport's secrets 7/9/2009

My girlfriend and I tried the seafood after a long day of sightseeing and found it to be very good. I was surprised to find a place this good that close to the beach. The diverse menu contained many upscale dishes, but also included fried sea food and many appetizers. They have a large wine list, which I was surprised to find in a restaurant that close to the beach. I enjoyed the fried seafood platter that included boiled shrimp, stuffed shrimp, a crab cake, fried oysters, a large piece of fried red snapper, and their unique French fries. The clientele was mostly well dressed older locals and visitors, and the wait staff knew many of them by name. Overall, we were very pleased with our experience, and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Freeport. more

Red Snapper Inn is to say the least horrendous. 6/14/2009

My husband and I decided to give this place a try even though I had heard a few bad reports. I ordered the soft shell crab and when it was brought out I did not even want to try it. It looked disgusting. As looks are not a good judgement of taste I tried it. I have never tasted anything so awful in my life. I asked our very rude waitress to please take it back. When we received our bill after being ignored several times by our waitress the soft crab was still on there. I asked to speak to the owner of the establishment. He was very unprofessional and told me that even though the burnt soft crab was not to my liking that he would not remove it. I have never not eaten something I have ordered and did not see why this was an issue. He then proceeded to be extremely rude and disrespectful to the point that in order to not embarass myself we simply paid and left. The hamburger steak ordered for my daughter was hard as a rock as was the red snapper and shrimp my husband ordered. Unless you w more

Red Snapper has been out on Surfside beach for a number of years. I had lunch there a few months back and the Shrimp PO Boy was very good. The restaurant was not crowded that day and service was good. more
