Boot camp is overpriced and a bit of a joke 1/1/2010

It's a new year, so you're ready to get in shape, right? Unless you are really desperate, (i.e. you have zero fitness knowledge, lack self-respect, RPM is right across the street from where you live and you don't have a car) I cannot recommend this gym. Boot camp is extremely expensive for a group class. The least the instructors could do is show up on time. They don't. Ironically, students who arrive late (later than them?) are charged five bucks or some small yet hypocritical amount like that. And because they just rolled up half asleep and unprepared, they have to make their coffee, which they will then get off the bike they should be instructing you from and drink it in front of you. It appears too much to ask for them to do their personal routine on their own time and then show up ready to teach. It's disrespectful and arrogant and shows a lack of gratitude for their clients. They bring to mind so many "experienced" trainers in Los Angeles who have knowledge of health and wellness and use that to intimidate those who don't, but because they have been in the business of fitness a long time they suffer from severe burnout and lack sincere enthusiasm for YOUR workout. If you ask too many questions they get mean and defensive and resort to bullying tactics which is not the same as instilling discipline. Anyone who pays their dues and shows up 5 days a week at 6 am deserves better. I won't even comment on the "nutrition" aspect of the camp which is a joke. They also take people out of class to "weigh in" which will waste even more of your class time, instead of doing it before or after. They try to cram it all in during what is presented up front as "workout" time. It's not rocket science and of course if you eat healthy and work out 5 times a week for 90 minutes you will most likely see results, depending on what your base line was before you got there. Pros: working out is better than not working out Cons: poor quality of professionalism. instructors are burned out. more

Negative Feedback keeps me away! 6/13/2009

From what I have read, the negatives seem to at least equal if not outweigh the positive feedback of this place. I will definitely stay away. Sounds like the owners have abuse issues and take them out on their clients. Also sounds like they are harder on people than people are on themselves. Pros: FIRM THIGHS? Cons: TOO MANY NEGATIVE FEEDBACKS more

the thing i was looking for... right here are RPM 5/28/2009

Amazed 5/21/2009

I've lost 60lbs at RPM Fitness Studio since Sept. 2008. It has been hard work, but with the help of Cynthia and Karyn I have managed to look HOT just in time for summer. I tried going to popular chain gyms (you know which ones) and none of those gyms can compare. These women are very motivational, caring, and determined to make you a work out lover. You will never find another spinning studio like this. Pros: Best motivation, best clients, best staff ;) Cons: you swear you a$$ off more

I,ve been going there over 10 years &I still love it 5/21/2009

Cynthia and Karen truly try to help you accomplish Pros: Pushes you to do your best Cons: no complaints more

No Regrets Just Sweat! 5/18/2009

When I spin I sweat like a badger in mating season and sometimes after a "lost" Ray Milland weekend, my bike has the sweet, yet pungent smell of a brewery but I know that after three songs in to an RPM spin workout I'll be as sober as a nun (I assume they're sober). So what am i saying here as I ride headlong into my 60th birthday? RPM Fitness Studio is the absolute tip top place to get into the best shape of your life and meet some terrific people along the way. Come on down and watch the badger sweat! Pros: Best Spin workout in the known world more

whiners-STFU 5/14/2009

I first camp to RPM to take Bootcamp. I religiously showed up on time, and worked my tail off. There were always members who were late, didnt show up and complained it was too hard or that the girls were mean. Pros: small boutique atmosphere Cons: wished there was still spin/sculp more

I SWEAR BY THIS PLACE! 5/7/2009

Karen and Cynthia are the perfect combination, helping you get back into shape and taking control of your life again. One of the many great things about this place is that Karen and Cynthia work really hard at getting you to work hard simply because they care. Their passion for healthier living is nothing short of inspiring, infectious and educational. Not only will you lose the weight that you couldn't lose on your own, you will also learn about nutrition and how to listen to your body and it's reaction to what you eat. You will meet many people that are in the same boat as you. This is very important because it also provides a built in support system resulting in a camaraderie amongst one another. You walk out many pounds lighter feeling better about your self then you have done in years and you will do so while gaining a bunch of new friends. RPM Fitness Studio has now become my home away from home. I am living proof because I lost 50 lbs in 10 weeks! That's right 50 lbs! more

RPM ROCKS my sweaty SOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8/27/2008

WOW! I do not even know where to begin with this but here goes! I am a loyal RPM spinner going on 10 years now. I have tried everything out there from yoga to personal training and this place is far superior to them all. Yes, the owners are tough and Yes the results are worth it...this place is not for the sensitive or thin skinned, there are "gyms" out there for those types who want to go at a snails pace of fitness. If you want fast results or are type "A' in personality, come on down!!! and bring a sweat towel... Pros: Great atmoshphere, Awesome vibe, Lots of parking Cons: hmmmmm....my sanity when I DO NOT GO!! more

The best spin class you'll ever find! 7/12/2008

Don't believe any of the negative comments written unless you're just not serious about getting in shape. If you are truly serious about getting in shape and can handle hearing the truth about what you need to do, then RPM is for you. Cynthia and Karyn are knowledgeable and motivating. I have been going to RPM for 5 years now and have done Bootcamp (the first time I lost 25 lbs. after my first child), spin classes, pilates, pilates beats and bodybarre. They are all great and every spin instructor is wonderful. You will never find a spin class that focuses more on your form which is the only way you'll see results. There are many choices out there, so if RPM is not for you, then don't come. Not only are the owners and instructors great, but I've met so many nice people there. Pros: Owners, instructors, bootcamp, all classes Cons: Bootcamp is expensive but worth it - also no classes in the middle of the day. more

Rude management, favor random students 5/3/2008

The mananagement at this place ruins it; some of the teachers are great (Derrick esp), but the owners inexplicably favor certain students and insult others that are way more fit and better at the class. I don't get it unless they are friends with those people. It creates an atmosphere of hostility and unfairness. It's bizarre. more

RPM WORKS 3/30/2008

I started spining at RPM September 2005 and lost 15-20lbs in all the stuborn areas. Prices are high but you pay for what you get and find that it was the going rate at other locations. Karen and Cythina are hard on us but all for the good! I learned they had my best interest weeks after spining there. RPM was where I would just let it all go. I released my stressed from work and home at RPM. Unfortunately because of the prices I stop going and joined a gym and gained all the weight back maybe more. This place worked for me and once my finances are better I will be going back. Pros: Works you out! Cons: Prices are high for a single mom more

Great Spinning 12/27/2007

The best studio for spinning; I have being Spinning at RPM for many years;the instructors are very professional and most important they make sure you are spinning correctly. I have visited many studios and none have the knowledge and experience that Cinthia and Karen do(owners). Pros: Cinthia Karen Cons: Pilates schedule more

Only Go If You're Serious About Getting Healthy, Want to Have Fun and Meet Great People 12/25/2007

I love RPM. I understand where other people are coming from who didn't care for the studio and its owners though. This is a boutique gym, it isn't for everyone and isn't trying to be. The only time I am "picked on" as others put it (I wouldn't though) is when I am not putting in my all. Cynthia, Karyn (the owners) and all the other instructors make it clear that there are high expectations. Additionally, I've been to a lot of fitness studios where the instructors are harsh. I haven't been to very many that as soon as the class is over you chat with them for a while. Everyone is caring and helpful. I want to go work out everyday which never happened before. Pros: Great teachers, great people, great classes, great parking Cons: A lot of dust and lint on the walls and air ducts, there are always a couple bikes out of commission more

Bad, Boring, Mean and Abusive. 5/3/2007

Let me start by saying that I have done almost every fitness activity there is, ballet for ten years, yoga on and off for 20, surfing, aerobics, spinning, pilates, fencing and on and on. I signed up for the boot camp at RPM and it was terrible. It was disorganized, expensive, boring and repetitive. The two ladies who run the Boot Camp have good intentions I am sure but they are very misguided. I thought it would be fun in an inspired army kind of way but it was not. The ladies were very disrespectful , abusive and negative. They would say things like "if you cant do this you will never accomplish anything in your life." We would listen to the same music during spinning every day, run on a not safe area on the road, the " nutrition counseling" consists of them telling you to "eat turkey and salad" . I could really go on and on. I wanted to quit after a week but stayed on just to be able to come home and tell my boyfriend everyday a new abusive thing that was said to someone in the class. I have never found a fitness class/studio as bad as this and trust me I have been to a ton of them. Pros: None Cons: Everything more

Best one-stop fitness centre around!! 4/9/2007

I have been taking the spin classes at RPM for 6 months now and I haven't looked anywhere else since i found this wonderful place. From the moment you walk in the door the lovely girls help you with your shoes, getting you on your bike and making sure you are perfectly comfortable. The classes really get you moving and I feel I am getting a better workout than i've anywhere i've been before. I can't give enough praise to the girls there for helping me lose over 30lbs. Since then I have also been taking the yoga classes after the spin classes and they are the best thing ever. The small class sizes are fantastic as the intstructors really get hands on with you and I really feel the difference. I will never go back to the generic gym yoga classes I was taking before. THANK YOU RPM!!! Pros: EVERYTHING, CAN'T FAULT THE PLACE!! more

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE-RUDE,RUDE,RUDE! 1/31/2007

I was looking for a gym and came across the RPM website...looked fantastic! Pros: Never having to walk in there and be treated with disrespect again! Cons: CYNTHIA more

Best fitness/exercise experience of my life. 1/12/2007

I cannot say enough good things about RPM. I am a person who has never been an athlete, and always felt uncomfortable in traditional gyms. So that has kept me from being fit and enjoying the benefits of exercise. I went to RPM and was greeted warmly by the receptionist who explained the process to me and helped me get started with spinning shoes and a bottle of water. Several members of the spinning class and associate instructors were kind enough to teach me the proper way of getting on the spinning bicycle and the proper posture. The class itself was amazing, fun, difficult and all the while one of the owners, Karyn, was coming to check on me and keeping the class pumped up with amazing energy and instruction. After a few spinning classes I came back for Pilates with the other owner, Cynthia. This is truly one of the most difficult things I've done in my life but Cynthia focuses on each person individually and makes sure you are doing the moves correctly. So challenging and fun and rewarding, and everyone there really knows their stuff, and you get the feeling you are part of a family. The parking situation is awesome - they provide spinning shoes, towels and bottles of water for good prices - it always smells lovely in there with candles lit. It's also very clean and there are plenty of sanitary wipes to keep the mats and equipment that way. I would recommend RPM to anyone who asked me about it and I'm so glad I discovered this place. Pros: instructors, schedule, value, cleanliness more

One of the worst health club experiences I have had! 11/24/2006

i read the reviews on this website and thought RPM sounded great. So I signed up. It was a bit of a relief to read the prior post expressing almost everything I felt also. The owners are confrontational ready to argue with you about everything. The main woman I was working with was abrasive and when you were in the classes the instructors would make rude embarassement comments about your body in front of the other people in the "boot camp". It truly was a waste of my time and my money as well as a very negative experience overall! It was an environmentI felt to be very unpleasant and not conducive to a fitness studio claiming to want to help people get into shape. more

Not for athletes or people who are over the yelling thing at 6 am 10/4/2006

I read the reviews on this site and since I lived close by, I signed up for the bootcamp course. While I'll give the owners kudos for their knowledge on nutrition and fitness, I found the overall experience to be very unpleasant. They employ bullying tactics during the course of the classes (which are reasonably priced, but not when you consider how large the group you train with will be), they are prone to public humiliation of participants, and also lacked the know how to deal with injuries while still providing results. Pros: Parking Cons: Not for people who are already fit, owners employ childish tactics, don't work around injuries more

  • In addition to a warm, friendly atmosphere, the classes, teachers and trainers are the best in Los Angeles. Unlike corporate gym chains, RPM classes are more intimate, and the instructors are more attentive. RPM also offers a variety of classes where you can meet all of your workout needs: Spinning, Pilates, yoga, personal training and nutrition counseling. RPM features several combo classes where RPM clients can expect 30-40 minutes of heart-pounding, motivating cardio, then another 15-20 minutes on abs, body-sculpting, yoga or Pilates. We like to recommend two workouts for the price of one.

RPM is also known for its Battlezone Bootcamp. This well-rounded physically and mentally challenging bootcamp-style workout is recognized throughout the Valley.
