Worst

The service was acceptable. The quality of the steak was average

We were told this place had a great 2/12/2012

We were told this place had a great fish fry. Boy - was that recommendation wrong. The place is old 50s style bar and lounge with a staff that may be older and slower. The fish we got was slimy, undercooked and covered in a sour breading. The prices were outrageous. Drinks were $10 each for watered-down liquor. Waiters eventually took our order then disappeared. 40 minutes between ordering the fish fry and getting our 1st plates! Supposedly it is all you can eat but, we would have had to stay for 5 hours to get filled. Avoid this place no matter what the locals say. The health department needs to investigate this dump. You will get far better fish at the McDonalds down the street. The locals can have this food disaster. more

15 negative stars. Horrible 2/12/2012

15 negative stars. Horrible experience. Our party of 6 left before eating our food and went down the street to Perkins. Raw chicken and a well done steak that had blood running out of it. Silverware with caked on food and pieces of food under our table. Once our 65-year old waitress new we were unhappy, she avoided us. All of our food was uncooked. As we got up to leave, the hostess told us to wait for our check? What? We told the hostess that our food was inedible and we were not paying the bill. The hostess ran and got the owner who cursed us out and threatened to call the police. This place is an old sad dump with amateur staff and food that is uncooked. Dine here at high risk!! more

This hole-in-the-wall serves serious fine cuisine 10/15/2011

Referred by the Holiday Inn on a visit to Wisconsin. From the outside, this could have been any generic restaurant in America at an uninteresting roadside location with fast food joints nearby. We were dubious walking in. Instead, we were treated to fabulous cuisine prepared to perfection. We're talking even vegetables (fresh, local) done right! Plus the wine list was very well thought out. This is no mere family restaurant. Someone here really knows what s/he is doing. more

Avoid on Fridays 6/18/2011

Had a 7:00 PM reservation on a Friday and was not taken until 7:45 PM. This was after two complaints. I felt they could have offered a free appetizer for the inconvenience but nothing was offered. This leaves me to believe that it's a common occurrence. The food was good. The waitress never showed up again after taking our desert order. A couple replacements took her place. I am not inclined to return. more

DO NOT GO HERE 3/4/2011

Wish I would have read more reviews before deciding to eat here tonight. \r Food portions were tiny for the price, but I credit the Chefs for making the best of the situation. Steak and Crab Legs were cooked perfectly, onion strings were suprisingly good and actually matched well with the King Crab. If you've never tried it together, it's a treat.\r 12 min to take our drink order, 2nd glass of wine never showed up, overcharged our tab and had to have it corrcted. Overall demeanor was snotty and dismissive. \r Please for the love of god quit wrecking the good food and hard work in the kitchen with terible Management and Staff. \r more

Not honest or helpful 5/9/2009

I was in Milwaukee for a convection and had dinner at the Packing House on Saturday 5/2. I left my sunglasses at the table and called the next morning to see if they had been turned in. These were 150.00 pair of sunglasses. I was told that nothing was turned in so I asked if it was possible that an employee had not turned them in yet. The woman said a cleaning crew had cleaned and then she hung up on me. Tables are bussed immediately after a meal. I believe one of the wait staff stole the sunglasses. When I tried to inquire about them and was hung up on I couldn’t believe it. I will never eat there again and cannot recommend the restaurant to anyone. They are not honest or helpful. Cons: Not honest or helpful more

Very good food 10/12/2008

Packing House has very good food. Their Sunday Brunch is wonderful, the service is excellent and the prices are moderate. It is a great place for a large group of people to gather for a meal. more

Fish Fry worth the wait 9/22/2007

I try to go when the line is down, but that takes a bit of time. Go early or late and you'll do fine. We often have 2 people at our house share a fish fry. It is pretty generous. It's also one of the best we've had. more

The Best Fish Fry in Milwaukee 9/8/2007

There's a reason why the cars line up around the corner on Friday nights at the Packing House. They're all waiting for a hot, delicious fish fry. You get a generous portion along with fries and cole slaw for a reasonable price. The drive thru is also convenient. Next time you go, order a bowl of clam chowder to go with the fish - it's delicious. more

Outstanding selection of seafood, and meat dishes. Service was very good, and prices were reasonable. The beef wellington was fantastic as was the fillet. more

Great steaks, location, very reasonable 2/23/2007

A great deal and excellent steaks. Dinners are huge. I really prefer this setting over the downtown steak houses. Fine dining without pretentious crowd. Unfortunately I moved out of state and only get to stop here when visiting. Location is convenient via I-794, 894, or I-94, easy trip from downtown. Right across the street from the airport and Signature Flight Service (walk across the street). Quick drive from airport hotels or easy stop off of interstate at Layton Ave. exit, even if you're just passing through. I have gone both casual and dressed for supper. I always ask if I'm ""attired properly"", because I have eaten at the Packing House after days of flying I am sometimes in shorts/polo shirt. Staff assured me it was fine. Have eaten here several times and found it to be a great steak dinner and nice dining atmosphere. Very good service and nice staff which I find important. The word ""Reasonable"" should not indicate that it is anything less than an excellent experience, I just found it to be less expensive than I would have expected for a large steak dinner. Pros: Very good experience several times Cons: Can't think of any more

Kaplan Family 9/10/2005

Our family has been dining here since I was in high school (the 70's) This is the best dining establishment place Milwaukee has to offer. The chef's are the best, the food is top rate, the people are the friendliest Milwaukee has to offer. The prices are good, and you leave feeling like you just left your rich aunt's dinner table. Even if you come with a large group. Pros: food, staff, ambiance more

Great food, great people, great bar 6/6/2005

If you want fabulous food, great service and great music - this is the place. You MUST try the appitizers too. The combo platter is HUGE and delicious, the mozzerella sticks are homemade and to die for, the bacon-wrapped water chestnuts are soo good and I absolutely love the crab stuffed mushrooms!!!! Be sure to make a reservation, you'll likely wait a little bit still but it's WELL WORTH THE WAIT! Pros: Delicious more

typical milwaukee 2/4/2003

High quality food! 1/3/2003

It's been a while, but I love their garlic-stuffed steak and the Sicilian steak is tops. Other good food too like blackened salmon for the non-steak eaters in the group. Nice wait staff, short waits. Prices are excellent for the quality and amount of food you receive. Pros: Lots of choices, Friendly staff, reasonable Cons: A little crowded more

Excellent service, short wait for a reserved table, nice ambiance, good neighborhood, GREAT Prime Rib and not as expensive as the other places in Milwaukee. What a great place to relax and enjoy a great meal with family and friends. I will go back to The Packing House as often as I can get back to Milwaukee. And, yes, I have been to Coerper's and I will not return there! This IS the place for steak in Milwaukee! Pros: Reasonably priced, Ambiance, Super service more
