Nine Ten is one of the biggest disappointments in La Jolla. 12/6/2009

Went here for mother's day brunch. It was pretty bad. Our server disappeared mid-meal and never returned. We had to hunt someone down to get the check. The food was sub-par; they served unripe melon (so hard it was difficult to eat), and stale bread. Honestly, I expected better from them. We won't be going back. more

Great 1/8/2009

Nine Ten is a great place to go if you want a semi formal meal. It is right up the hill from The CHildrens Pool, where the seals reside, and the La Jolla Cove. The restaurant is on the end of Girard, a great La Jolla street lined with a number of shops. A great place to go eat, then go enjoy the sunset. more

Eleven-Twelve 8/17/2008

This is a really nice restaurant. Everything was high end with fantastic food that was well presented. The staff was very professional and very pleasant. Of course, with this type of restaurant you're going to pay a little extra. more

One of the best restaurants in town 2/21/2008

This is an excellent restaurante. I've been there for both dinner and lunch. If you go, I highly recommend whatever soup of the day they are serving - they probably have the best soups in town. Their 3 course lunches are a steal for their quality and price. more

Excellent restaurant 12/6/2007

We splurged and went here with friends and were very pleased. The menu was interesting and the food was top notch. This is a nice place for a special occasion. I had the Risotto al Nero di Seppie (don't ask :) and it was delicious. more

Wonderful all the way around 10/21/2007

In August I had both my rehersal dinner and my wedding brunch at Nine-Ten. We had an number of guests staying at the hotel as well. Every interaction was flawess. From start to finish the Valet staff was great. The dinner in our own private dinning room was initmate and beautiful. We loved the property of the Grande Colonial so much that we had our after parties (Fri and Sat) both at the Bar of Nine Ten. The staff was wonderful, helpful, and fun. I would recommend it to any bride who wants the whole package - world class accomidations and catering at your finger tips. All of our guests are still talking about it two months later. more

Food and atmosphere are fine, but beware of lazy/unprofessional service and management 5/28/2007

I asked a question about the salmon dish on the menu (wild or farm-raised) and the server hesitantly told me it must be wild. I asked him if he was sure (as wild is preferable to me) and he said yes. When my dish came I could see and taste clearly that it was not wild, so I told him it wasn't, to which he replied, ""Yes, it is."" I had him ask the kitchen, and upon his return he admitted it was not in fact wild. He did not offer to discount and he did not apologize; instead he was nonchalant and did not seem poised to be a fine dining server. Cons: Service, management, hospitality more

ehhhh........pick something else. 12/11/2006

We stumbled across this restuarant on Opentable and thought we would give it a try. We were visiting from SF, and were looking forward to a nice romantic dinner together. We thought this might be a good choice. I was wrong. From the moment we walked through the door our experience went downhill. No one greeted us as we walked in. There was staff all around, most of them hanging out w/ other diners at the bar. And they were acting like college kids, laughing loudly, goofing off. We were taken aback by this. Online it sounded like a fine dining experience, this looked like some upscale college hangout. Five minutes went by before we were greeted and taken to our table. Our waiter was no better. He lacked professionalism and poise as a waiter. He was inconsistent, either constantly showing up to ask how our food was but never explaining anything. But when we needed his assistance for the bar, he was nowhere to be found. We eventually flagged down another waitress to attended to us immediately. The food was good, but to put up w/ the unprofessional service, it's not worth it. My boyfriend and I talked about this afterwards, if perhaps we've been spoiled w/ the professional waitstaff in SF and our standards are higher. But I think it was limited to this place alone. Among all the choices in that area and the price that you pay I would recommend something else. Pros: valet parking is only $2 Cons: ambience was lacking, staff was unprofessional, the drinks were weak (we had to send it back), the staff is inattentive more
