This is the best aquarium I've ever been to. The otters alone are worth a visit, but my favorite room is downstairs where the jelly fish are displayed like living works of art. Catch the octopus feeding if you can and bring a lunch to sit outside and look at the bay while listening to the ""living ocean"" room swish. more

Spectacular! 1/13/2011

While visiting family in the Fall, we took the kids to the aquarium for the first time...and it won't be our last time. Our entire family thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. At every corner there was something new for us to explore. The kids especially got a kick out of the playful otters and the touch tanks. The cafe was great too. We enjoyed overlooking the bay while we ate lunch. We are definitely going to go back the next time we are visiting family. more

a must see in Monterey 1/5/2009

If you are going with a family it can get pretty pricey but is a such a beautiful place. They make it easy to see everything but it will take you the whole day to go through the entire thing. They Jelly fish and outer limits exhibits were amazing. Pros: Beautiful Cons: price more

so much fun 10/27/2008

Great Time 10/27/2008

I was very impressed with the aquarium! It was not too crowded and my whole family really enjoyed looking at all of ythe spectacular fish and other sea creatures. Will definitely go back! more

WOW!!!! 1/16/2008

What can I say about the Monterey Bay Aquarium that hasn't already been said in the other reviews.... I will just add that it is worth every cent you pay to get in! I have had a mambership for over five years and I never tire of visiting there. I go for the day with my family, I sit and watch deep sea creatchures that I would not be able to see on my own.\r \r I love to take my digital camera and snap photos of the Jellies, and of the birds in the sanctuary. Very educational for my children. I usually give gifts of membership to my family and friends for Birthdays and Christmas or other special occasions.\r Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: Summer months it gets pretty busy and looong lines for non menbers more

Great place to spend the day at! 9/23/2007

I have a membership so there isn't a line for me. But..... the aquarium was great. The otters, great white, penguins, jellyfish...... etc. I love this place and wished I lived closer so I could come down more. There are restuarants close by and the staff at the aquarium is great. I don't think that it is a tourist trap. It's a beautiful place for kids and adults. Looking through the telescope outside and seeing the seals is great. You will never want to leave this place!!!! Pros: everything Cons: maybe just that it could get crowded more

Wonderful Aquarium 11/18/2006

Probably one of the best aquarium's in the world! Very clean and new and open. Amazing jellyfish exhibit. The otters are of course adorable - and the staff who feeds them and the other animals really seem to love what they're doing. My husband and I are in our twenties and had a great time, but part of the fun was watching all the kids who just love the place. It'll really inspire you to do what you can to take care of our oceans. \r more

One of the best I've seen 11/15/2006

I absolutely loved this Aquarium! At first I thought the tickets were a bit steep at $22/person, we quickly realized how special this place was. We went straight to the sea otter exhibit--they were sooo cute!! The jellyfish exhibit was amazing; very dark and moody but absolutely beautiful. We went during the summer so it was warm outside and we were able to enjoy the outside walkway. The wave machine display was neat and it was bizarre getting to touch the different fish in the exploration tanks. I'd love to take my camera and come back and take some professional pictures of the exhibits. Pros: sea otters, jellyfish exhibits Cons: bit pricey more

Fun day for the family 3/24/2005

Amazingly, the aquarium kept the attention of two teenaged boys for an entire afternoon. Good place for a family visit. Only odd thing - when we visited, there was a huge exhibit about the depletion of the shrimp population - image our surprise when the restaurant next door was Bubba Gump Shrimp. more

A Great Place To Spend A Day 3/9/2005

I've been to the aquarium a couple of times and love it more each time. It's located at the waterfront and part of it is actually in the ocean. It's modern and clean and gives you really great access to the animals. You can pet rays and touch and feel all sorts of other things. The bookstore/gift shop is filled with really neat things; it's definitely NOT a junky tourist trap. It's not cheap to go to the Aquarium, but I think the price is well worth it. Bring the kids; they will love it. Pros: The Exhibits, The View Cons: A Bit Pricey more

Excellent Aquarium 3/31/2004

I've been to the aquarium three times in my life. Each time it took my breath away. It is just so beautiful. The otters are adorable, the exibits beautiful, especially the kelp forest. Each time I go I don't want to leave. more

wonderful way to spend a day 7/26/2002

This aquarium has spoiled me for any other! The sea otters are adorable and the jelly exhibit is so beautiful. Plan to spend a good four hours and try to catch all the feeding shows - also, wonderful views from the decks (take a pair of binoculars). We see lots of families there, so a great place to take the kids! more

Don't forget the Penguins 6/12/2002

Since the aquarium is such a must see when in Monterey, the lines can get a little long. My suggestion to try and get the tickets in advance from your hotel. This way you can walk right in. There is plenty to see and fun attractions. You must not forget the Penguins on the 2nd floor. It is a fantastic place for kids and adults alike. more

Great Day Trip 5/19/2002

The facilities are wonderful, though crowds are the norm almost every day of the week. There's plenty to see and fun hands-on attractions like the batray pool where visitors can run their fingers along the slick back of a ray gliding across the pool. Feeding time for the sea otters is a favorite stop. The giant window looking into the Bay is impressive--you never know what you'll see. This old favorite is a great place to take little ones for an all-day outing. Pros: Great Facilites, Educational Cons: Crowded more
