Owners don't seem to worry about repeat or referral customers! 7/7/2008

We were very dissatisfied by our return trip to the Mill Race Inn! While we didn't have an issue with our server at all as she was great, the managers are less than customer-centric. \r \r My husband and I went to lunch and tried to use a gift certificate. We were told in a less than friendly manner by the managers that the certificate was given under old owners and that it didn't make sense for them to accept it as they would just lose money on it. They also said that it was 5 years old, even though we pointed out that it specifically stated there was no expiration date. \r \r We would have gone somewhere else that didn't charge us $30 for a basic lunch if we knew that was the case. While the atmosphere was unique, the food average and the treatment by the managers was definitely a reason not to go back. It was pretty empty in there, so I would have thought they would have been happier to have clients.\r Pros: We didn't have a problem with our server at all, as she was prompt, friendly and apologetic. Cons: I'd rather go to a restaurant where the owners value their clientele. more

The ambience is very nice. We made reservations for 7:00 and arrived but they sat us early. It took a long time for our waitress to come to take a drink order and when she did they drinks came about 10 minutes later, watered down. The margarita I ordered was undrinkable, I actually think it was made with Mt. Dew. The salads had way too much dressing, the lettuce was literally swimming. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, which was very tasty, but only 5 shrimp for 8.95. My husbands prime rib was very thin and not very flavorful. ($27.95) My baked salmon was extremely tasty. Although could tell the food had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while as it had that filmy crust over the top of everything, and was luke warm at best. The dining area was quite cool, I was very uncomfortable throughout dinner. Pros: Nice views, good parking, romantic Cons: small portions, overpriced, poor service more

Tasty, tasteful and scenic 12/31/2002

At the intersection of Rte 25 (N-S) and Rte. 38 (Roosevelt Rd.) MRI offers both causal and fine dining with a window view of the Fox River. We have only eaten upstairs (fine dining). It is elegant, scenic, and cozy with fire place. Food is excellent. Dinner probably averages $50-100 per couple depending on how many ""vinos"" you have to prime the gullet. Valet parking is available. Walk the river before or after eating. Causal dining is below. About 2 blocks east of historical downtown. If in town this is where we go for special occasions.
