Worst service ever! Appauled 3/3/2012

The restaurant opened at 430 and we got there at 433. We had to be 3 of the first patrons. I have to mention that we traveled 11/2 hrs to eat there for girls night out! The hostess was the worst, ignoring us for the first few minutes upon our arrival. Her temperament was rude and condescending. She then yelled at us as she was walking us to our table. We had been debating whether to stay or not at this point. We then asked if we could be seated in a different area and she had this look on her face of disgust. At this point she went back to the books and marked something there, crossing over to the other side without us and then yelled, ladies. We all tried to follow her but ended up taking a different path to get to our table, which the hostess and another lady had already laid down our menu's and left. We didn't even pull out our chairs. We just left. No one tried to approach us to see if there was a problem. We left there and went down the street to 131 Main where we had a wonderful meal experience!!! Customer service at its worst!!!!!! more

Great everything 3/13/2010

I love this restaurant. They give you huge amounts of food, it's always consistant and delicious. It's not a ""hurry up and eat so we can leave"" type of place. That said, it might seem a little slow to some people but it's the way it is. They want you to enjoy your time there and relax. Pros: Great food, great atmosphere Cons: May have to wait more

quite your complaining 7/31/2009

after reading the 43 current reviews at M&M-i must say that all the ""negative diners"" need to go back and re review! i have been to mickey and mooch at least 6 times-hitting just about everyday of the week and have nothing but great service and great food. maybe these folks had incredible expectations or maybe they just didn't like who they were dining with!!! there must be something said about servers that have been there for four and five years-thanks for taking pride in what you do. if you have issues you need to address them then and there-that's what they have managers for. Pros: great food&outstanding prices Cons: too many complainers more

disappointed 5/11/2009

I went here for dinner for the first time in several years and it seems to have gone downhill quite a bit. The waitress was very slow (considering it wasn't very busy) and the formerly romantic atmosphere has changed. We will likely be sticking with 131 Main or Red Rocks in the future. Pros: good steak Cons: service, atmosphere more

Deteriorating service but food still good. 12/21/2008

Mickey and Mooch used to be a great place to go to with outstanding service, ambiance and food. We have been going there for 8 years and have never been disappointed until last night. Our food was good and my steak was cooked perfectly but the meal was spoiled by poor service. We had made a reservation for 7 pm and were made to wait until I complained. While we were waiting in the bar it took 15 minutes just to get a drink. Only one bartender serving the entire restaurant and bar. Once seated it also became obvious there were not enough waiters. Our initial sevice was good but nowhere near what my expectations were based on prior visits to Mickey and Mooch. Pros: Easy parking Cons: Service is average more

Almost missed a great evening 7/27/2008

My wife and I were looking for a good place to go out fo the evening. Not a birthday or anniversary but any date night out is a special occasion and we wanted to relax and enjoy each other's company. We read the recent reviews for M&M and were seriously tempted not to go - one hour drive from Hickory. We were pleasantly surprised. We arrived on time for our reservation and were immediately seated. Cedric was our server and did a wonderful job of being attentive but leaving us alone (after all it was our night out together). He also said a great sense of humor. He had just the right balance. I will make it a point to ask for him by name the next time we go. The service was prompt but not to the point of pushing us. When we were through with one course the next was ready. The food was hot and very good. The restaurant was a little loud - we chalked it up to lots of friends having fun together, but not too loud to carry on a great dinner conversation. The entertainers in the bar were first rate ( a vocalist and a soprano sax player). Overall it was a great experience. I fear that most reviews are only written when something goes wrong, so I felt compelled to speak a word about our experience. Pros: Service, Service, Service and Great Food Cons: No room for dessert more

Disappointed and embarrased! 7/16/2008

We went to the South Charlotte location on a Sunday evening at 6pm and the restaurant was pretty empty.\r \r A NY Strip steak was ordered at my table cooked medium. The steak arrived medium rare and was not able to be cut. The second time it arrived it was the same problem. The manager delivered the steak and argued that their ""Medium"" cooked steak is more on the light pink vs. warm pink which the way it should be. The second time it arrived it was also over a quarter of fat.\r \r At the end of the meal I brought it to the attention of the manager that we should not be charged for a steak that had to be returned twice. He argued with me that it is the way ""Mickey and Mooch"" cooks their steaks. Instead of saying he was sorry and just taking the steak off the bill he continued to argue with me.\r \r I am not sure what their customer service philosophy is but THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT! Don't argue with one if you want them to return to your restaurant.\r \r I had been in the past and although service was always lacking the food was good. I am not a Mickey and Mooch fan anymore.\r more

Disappointed 5/1/2008

I had heard great things about Mickey & Mooch from my coworkers so I thought I'd try it out. Bad mistake. I ordered the crab soup which tasted bad and was luke warm. My actual meal - filet oscar with sugar snap peas and mashed potatoes - was terrible. The potatoes were just a dry mess lumped together on a plate, tasted terrible and were cold. The peas were almost soggy-like, and the steak was way too done (i asked for a warm red center) and sort of grisly. The bernaise sauce and crab meat atop the steak were both cold, and the bernaise sauce wasn't creamy but more ""thickened"" from having sat out too long.\r \r I was extremely disappointed with my meal and will never go back. Pros: service was good and prompt Cons: food was awful more

Very disappointing. 4/26/2008

Perhaps I am spoiled, coming from Philadelphia, a city with, in my opinion, some fantastic restaurants, and I went to this restaurant with those high expectations, based on reviews from some locals. I was however, greatly disappointed with the food/value/noise of Mickey and Mooch. The first thing you notice in the restaurant is the noise factor. The live music, heard throughout the entire restaurant, may be amusing to some, but it was a decided distraction and serious impediment to dinner conversation. The tables are very close together, so you can't help but be an unfortunate eavesdropper in the conversations of the surrounding tables. The appetizer came out when we were in the middle of our dinner, my steak ($37.00) was overdone, and the crabcake that I ordered with my steak was barely bigger than a silver dollar (for $8.50). The only redeeming aspect of the meal was the dessert- a piece of chocolate cake that had to weigh three pounds and will serve as an after-dinner treat for the next four nights. Again, perhaps I am expecting a higher-level of cuisine, but I was very disappointed in this restaurant, and hope that it is not indicative of the ""fine dining"" in the Lake Norman area. Pros: Food wasn't bad, in and of itself, but not a good value. Cons: Noisy, tables are too close together, service seems a step behind on everything. more

Best Lake Norman Fancy Place 4/6/2008

This is probably the best Lk. Norman has to offer for an upscale place. However, it is way too noisy for a high priced place. Desserts of course are to rave for and the menu is excellent along with quality of meal. However, for the price, I prefer a little nicer service. So, my rating is versus their peer group of places versus overall. Comparing here to Pizza Hut just would not be fair (LOL) more

WORST MEAL EVER!!! Slow and poor service. 3/1/2008

My wife and I had reservations for 6:45. Upon arrival we were seated immediately. (The only good part of the evening) \r We ordered an Filet Mignon appetizer to start that was merely okay. For an Entree I had the ?Shrimp Carbonara? and my wife had the ?Prime Porterhouse?. \r When the meal made it to the table my wife immediately noticed a horrible odor. It was her steak. When she cut into it the smell the quickly made it over to me. I couldn?t believe it. The beef was bad. We called the waiter over to complain who in turn said he would get the manager. I asked the waiter to remove the steak from the table so we wouldn?t have to deal with the odor, but he didn?t. We had to wait until he came back without the manager before he finally removed it from us. We were told the manager was busy and would be with us when he could. I then requested the check. \r When I received the check I noticed her meal had been taken off. It wasn?t until after I had given him my credit card and was waiting for the approval did the manager arrive. He questioned our problem and after hearing it said he didn?t notice anything wrong but would go inspect the remaining meat in the back.\r We were offered a ?Free Desert?. We refused the offer. I couldn?t get away from the restaurant quick enough. Pros: NONE!!! Cons: Poor/Slow Service. Apathetic management. Expensive. more

Will NOT return 2/14/2008

This is my first restaurant review, but our experience was so dreadful, I needed to write. To be fair, we did not order steak and, from checking out what other people ordered, that's what people like at M&M. It was loud, but that's OK, there are plenty of places to go for that quiet evening. The service was fine - no complaints. It was the food that was so awful. Without exception, everything we ordered was over the top and consequently, just bad. The house salad dressing that ""everyone loves"" is just a sweet mess. The blue cheese coleslaw was missing at least half the cabbage - it was more like a cheese ball with a few vegies stuck in for color. The ribs did fall off the bone as the waitress said, but they were dry, and of course, coated in a sweet uninspiring bbq sauce. However, none of the dishes was worse than the shrimp and grits. I was prepared for a rich dish, but it was almost inedible. If I could have wiped off the shimp and gotten a plate a plain grits, it would have been bearable. Just for the shear fun of it, we took the leftoevers home just to look at it all in the morning congealed together in the ""to go"" box. Portions were large and it is apparent that many people like this restaurant as it was packed with an hour and a half wait at 6:15 on a Wednesday night, but I don't see how we could give it another try. more

Worst experience in the last 3 years 12/27/2007

Mickey and Mooch was one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant in a long time. The service was pretty good, but the food was cold. We had a party of 8 and were seated 45 minutes after ou reservation. 4 of our entrees arrived 45 minutes after ordering and the other 4 came out 15 minutes later! The server apologized and said the General Manager would stop by to apologize and introduce himself. He came by as we were paying( Nothing Deducted!!) and said that they ""lost"" a ticket in the kitchen. He also told us that they had another reservation for the table we were sitting at and asked if we would re-locate to the bar.HE NEVER APOLOGIZED !!\r It was my wife's birthday and we had made arrangements for a slice of chocolate cake to be delivered with a candle in it. ( I called earlier for the reservation and made a point to order this ahead of time). He said he knew nothing about this and said it would be delivered to a table in the bar. OK, so we moved. The cake came out 30 minutes later at the same time our first order of drinks arrived and NO candle. The coffee was cold and the server never brought us cream or sugar even after asking on two occasions. Forget about a re-fill!!\r Overall it was a dismal experience. I have been there in the past and had a great time, however the last 3 or 4 visits in the previous 3 months have been mediocre at best. The restaruant has lost something recently and they don't seem to care. It's like going to one of those ""chain"" restaurants. \r This is one of the worst managed restaurants in my experience. They just don't care! Pros: Cold food, Slow service and no manager presence more

Way too loud! 6/17/2007

We couldn't hear ourselves think let alone talk to each other. I had no idea who our server was since 10 different people came to our table and we never saw the same person twice. Tables are too close together and it is miserable to get around the place. Drinks at the bar were weak and expensive. There are much better places for a good steak. The food was ok but the atmosphere ruined it anyway. Would not go back. Cons: LOUD, CROWDED AND EXPENSIVE more

Romantic 10/31/2006

Great place to go for a special occasion- the food was excellent and we loved the service. It is beautiful inside. Pros: romantic Cons: busy more

AVOID if you want to hear each other! 6/15/2006

I went here on a Monday night! You'd think it would be a little less crowded, Nope! It was like a Friday night. I couldn't even hear the person I was with for the loud roar. It was horrible. They had people stuffed in there like sardines and through out my entire meal I had the staff constantly smashing their bodies into my chair and back. The food was good but I expect a Monday night dinner that cost $65 for two people to be a little less chaotic! I won't go back! It was not a good dining experience at all! I like to talk during dinner not sit there quiet because I can't hear to have a conversation. I like to be relaxed too but the constant server with their rear end at the foot of my table almost touching isn't my cup of tea! Pros: Food is good but not worth the chaos. Cons: Loud, Tables too close, Reservations didn't help with seating. more

Great dining overall! 1/20/2006

This is really an excellent restaurant overall. The service was great and the lighting is just right for a group dinner or a romantic evening out. From the salads to dessert, the food is outright delicious, the only problem is make sure you know how they cook their steaks. They actually char/sear the outside of the steak (after rubbing it with some spices, etc.) at a high temp to lock in all the juices, but unfortunately sometimes this makes the outside almost ""burnt"" and the inside very juicy. I liked my steak just fine, but another person dining with my group did not at all and they very kindly too the steak off our bill, which was very nice of the staff there. So, just FYI about their cooking style, but I really do recommend this restaurant for any occassion. Pros: Ambience, Service, Food more
