A Restaurant 3/15/2012

I recently ventured out to the downtown area of West Hartford and found a small pizzeria tucked away among the retail chain stores and what a find it was! Luna Pizza had excellent service and top of the line for a reasonable price. Not only that, the atmosphere makes for the perfect restaurant experience. I'd like to go through all of the amazing dishes from the menu but you will have to try it for yourself! Definitely worth the trip if you have to travel! more

Simply great thin crust pizza! 3/15/2012

thought the menu was pricey until i visited other restaurants in the center area. I had the margerhita pie which was out of this world, also ordered the green apple salad which was delicious. the atmosphere, although it was a full dining room the service was top notch. overall it was a great dining experience and will be returning. more

Hot Headed Owner - Beware! 2/12/2011

We've been customers for 10 years and have seen ups and downs. There was a period when they couldn't take credit cards or serve alcohol. We stuck with them until now. Tonight we ordered a salad, pizza, and wine. After almost 15 minutes there was no salad. Had to get up and ask the waitress for it. After it came, the pizza arrived 2 minutes later. Crust was so soggy, it was not eatable. Got up to ask waitress to take it back, when a guy who was eating at one of the tables got up and said he was the owner. He looked at our pizza and said he'd re-heat it. He seemed annoyed. I told him we didn't want a re-heated pizza and he very begrudgingly agreed to make a fresh pizza. I asked him for a complementary glass of wine while we waited, and he became incensed. He said he was going to offer the wine, but since I asked for it, we couldn't have it. I recounted the problem with the salad and the pizza, and also remarked about his poor attitude. I told him that we expected good service, but weren't getting it. He told me that they were not servants. I told him we were leaving. He said good, you can go next door to Harry's Pizza, that they have good pizza there. That's what I intend to do in the future, never returning to Luna. This owner guy needs some anger management therapy. P.S. The writeup that says there's a piano at Luna's is wrong. There was in the beginning, but it's been gone for years. more

First time there 12/19/2009

I stopped by and I ordered a small cheese pizza to go and they automatically charged 10% for the tip. I don't know if you've gone into Mcdonalds before, but I don't remember them charging 10% on an order to go. Then the crust on part of the pizza was partially burned. Pros: there are... ? Cons: Hole in the wall more

bad manager 12/13/2009

the manager Matt is extremely rude. we have been faithful customers, ordering pizza almost weekly; however, we are tired of the bad customer service. They mistakenly put us down for a pickup when we requested a delivery. When we inquired where our pizza was & when it would be delivered, he rudely stated that we need to pick it up & that even though they had a mistake, we should have known as they had not requested our delivery address. Since we are regular customers & always ask for a delivery, we assumed they knew our address. He wanted us to pick up the cold pizza. we are now ordering our pizza weekly from Harry's and we suggest others to do likewise. Pros: decent pizza Cons: rude manager; bad delivery service; Recommend Harry's Pizza more

Disappointed 9/9/2009

Called Luna Pizza, said I wanted a pizza for DELIVERY and the lady took my order and then when the order didn't come I called to check and they said I had called the regular phone number and it wasn't delivery so they wanted me to pick up the pizza they made an hour ago for me that they didn't deliver. The manager Alex was very unprofessional and argumentative and I will not eat there again! more

bring back the wood 10/29/2008

i must say i cant figure out all the negative write ups on this place i have eaten a lot of their pies.... most from their first building in hartford which was a real brick oven .. i can imagine someone calling the ingredients poor quality .it is fine if you dont like the style or just not for you but as far as the ingredients i have not been to a place which has as fresh of ingredients .. that said ... when they had the wood oven in hartford it was unbelieable .. even with out the smokey wood flavor the pizza would get it is still the best italian thin crust i have had ..my pizza of choice so you know where i am coming from .. pepperoni garli .. or would add ricotta at times .. yummy and have to eat it there right out of the oven .. dont compair it to a pan pie or a thick pie it is a different animal Pros: pizza pizza pizza Cons: no wood oven anymore more

subpar pizza, way too pricy 10/5/2008

Not a brick oven pizza, very bland with an undistinctive taste. I have had much better pizza. Also, very pricy, many other options for food in the area for that price. Pros: indifferent wait-staff Cons: subpar-food at an overpriced amount. more

My favorite pizza!!! 7/30/2008

Let me say right off the bat, I am born, raised and live in NY. I walk across the Brooklyn Bridge just to get pizza. Luna's pie with meatball and ricotta is my favorite all time pie. You can taste the fresh ingredients and enjoy a great cheap bottle of wine with it. The owners are friendly and seem to always be there, when I take the 2 hour trek up there, which is quite often. Great atmosphere that I wouldn't shy away from taking my clients there. At the same time I would also bring my 3 year old nephew. Pros: Great food, friendly staff, great neighborhood.. more

I too am from Brooklyn and have eaten way more pizza than I should have and LUNA is 1 of the top 5 pizza restaurants anywhere. I don't even know what the prices their pizza is fabulous. Now I'm hungry 2/24/2008

Their pizza is fabulous. I too, am from Brooklyn where we take pizza pretty seriously. Four of the top 5 pizza resaurants in the world are in Brooklyn. The other one is in West Hartford....LUNA Pizza is great. Go there, you'll love it. Pros: Simply delicious. Great restaurant. Cons: Not free, Tony Bennett was NOT there, more than 50 calories. more

better than dominos 7/5/2006

Great pizza, great service, very pricey. And I'll agree its not NY pizza, its related because of the thin crust thats it, but not as greasy as the chain competitors and bigger selection of toppings Pros: good pizza Cons: $$$$$ more

Overpriced and overrated 6/4/2006

They claim to serve ""real New York-style"" pizza, but I've spent a lot of time in New York (wife is a Brooklyn native), and I've never had anything like what they serve at Luna's. It's better than Pizza Hut or Domino's, but that's about as far as I'd go. And $3.50 for an average-sized slice is ridiculous -- in New York the slices are larger and cost about $2 a slice in a typical pizza joint. Pros: Plenty of seating, Good service Cons: Over-priced, Not NY pizza more

Good Waitress 2/20/2005

Hey I recently went to Luna's Pizza in West Hartford and I had excellent service. The food was excellent and I would especially like to thank Monika one of the waitstaff she was prompt, if you go ask for her more

good pizza, poor service 6/14/2004

while i have always been a fan of Luna's mozzerella pizza (which is delicious and quite addicting) it is the horrible service i recieved at their West Hartford restaurant that will make me doubt my return. The service was horrendous, to put it nicely. My date did not like their BBQ chicken pizza at all. instead of the server asking how everything was, she walked past our table several times without blinking, then argued with my date as to why we didn't stop her to tell her about the bad pizza. she then proceeded to follow us outside to tell us we forgot to tip her (apparently, after snapping at a guest, a tip was still expected). i love their mozzerella pizza, but seriously doubt if i will ever return to their West Hartford location. Pros: good cheese pizza Cons: , poor cust. service more

REAL pizza with quality ingredients 8/8/2003

I am a regular customer of the Glastonbury location, but have also been to the original in West Hartford. Both are great. Anyone who complained about the cheese, etc. doesn't know what REAL, FRESH ingredients are (such as the mozzarella used). These people obviously don't know what quality food is. The only drawback is that Luna is somewhat expensive for a pizza... Pros: Ingredients, Atmosphere Cons: Expensive more

OK Pizza, but there's better 8/8/2003

Luna's is overpriced and overrated. But then again, so is all of West Hartford. Lived in town for 5 years, and ate at most of the pizza joints. It's a nice place, and the service is good, but there is much better pizza on the list (Lena's, Wooster St), and many more that never made it to the list. Pros: Good Pizza Cons: Expensive, Pretentious, Crowded more

Mr A 3/6/2003

the pizza was cold and the cheese was white and curdish. They finally found a way to melt government cheese, Lunas discovered the way to do so. Dominos Pizza is by far better than Lunas. more

It's a winner 1/2/2003

I've eaten Luna Pizza in Avon, CT for several years. One of the best things that could've happened to them was to build a new restaurant. My husband had never eaten Luna Pizza until last year and now he's won over. We are both very choosy about the quality of our foods. Luna has a nice light sauce and fresh mozzarella. He loves their veggie pizza ... all fresh veggies! Wish they'd open one in Torrington. Pros: Pizza, Salad, Service more

Love Luna's! 11/27/2002

Luna's is the best, should not be #5 in the Hartford area....fresh mozzarella, brick oven.......no beating it! more

horribleness for sure 11/27/2002

disgusting and should never even be considered as a pizza place my backyard grill could perform better meals. more
