NOT the original Chciago style pizza, but hands down THEE BEST 3/5/2008

No, Lou Mal's style of Chicago deep dish pizza wasn't the original (based on my research). BUT, Lou IS one of the founders of the original deep dish pizza concept. If you ask me, it doesn't matter if they're not the original, because they're THEE BEST!!! I've tried everyone elses pizza and for me, I can't really take the thick layer of tomato sauce most of the places have or the thick dough. Lou made Chicago pizza right with a not too thick layer of sauce and the dough crunchy and thin. I don't know why these other reviewers are complaining since the building is one of the original locations, but the pizza itself is the best and can be delivered all around the world. Pros: BEST Chicago style deep dish pizza, location one of the originals Cons: small parking lot, delivery/cooking time is long (but necessary) more

Dissappointed by Lou 10/5/2002

I heard tell that Lou's was better than Gino's East or Giordannos, OMG, this is not true!! The crust, was one of the best for ""chicago style"" that I've had, but it lacked in the cheese dept. and the sauce had a ""tangy"" taste I didn't care for. Not to mention the price, *steep for pizza*, the limited toppings, and not getting free refills. Sufficed to say, Lou will not get a return visit. Pros: good service, ample parking Cons: expensive, no very tasty, loud and crowded more

Pizza's great, but... 5/19/2002

The pan pizza here is terrific, but the rest of the place has seen better days. Some of the tables are barely above the folding card tables in your closet. And the restrooms are so bad it's embarrassing. The bar is smokey and claustrophobic. Many folks here get their pies to go -- and it's no wonder why. Pros: Great pizza Cons: Tired and worn more

  • About Lou Malnati's Pizzeria Considered the oldest family name in Chicago pizza, Lou Malnati's is as rich in history as its pizza is in flavor. Lou Malnati got his start in the 1940's working in Chicago's first deep dish pizzeria. He took his pizza expertise to Lincolnwood, a northern suburb of Chicago, where he and his wife Jean opened the first Lou Malnati's Pizzeria on March 17, 1971. Lou was known for his fun-loving character as well as making Chicago's best pizza. Loyal patrons lined the streets on opening day for a taste of his delicious deep dish creations. Lou always thought it was funny that an Italian should open a pizzeria in a Jewish neighborhood on an Irish holiday.
