Historic Theater, great movies, local atmosphere 8/20/2005

The Lincoln Theater Center in Mount Vernon, WA was built in 1927. It closed as a commercial theater sometime in the early 70's, but was brought back to life by a group of civic minded theater, history, and architecture buffs. Over a period of many years, it has been lovingly restored, and now is one of the finest venues in the area, showing art-house and independent movies, often also featuring concerts on the (also lovingly restored) "Mighty Wurlitzer" organ. The crowds attracted to the Lincoln are the type who turn off their cell phones, don't carry on conversations throughout the movie, and stand and applaud at the end of many movies. The concession stand is manned by volunteers and features popcorn with real butter! Prices are a bargain, and members get a discount! The theater also is a prime venue for local live theater productions. more
