...I'm so glad I enrolled my son in Thurston High School's optional Bridge program. This is a program where 9th graders are given a bit of a heads up about high school. It is a 6 week, 4 day a week program that is broken into 3 sections each day. One is academic (they were reading the Odyssey and brushing up on their algebra), one is social (journal writing about their feelings), and one is team building (working with a group to solve a problem). My son is an "octagonal" child in a round peg world, and this was so beneficial for him. It was also great for me to talk to high school teachers about him. It also gave him not only a bit of a comfort level concerning the school, but also some teachers that he could talk to if the going gets rough. I would HIGHLY recommend this program if your child gets the opportunity to participate.
