La Joya Fine Mexican Dining

Upon arriving we instantly noticed a terrible smell to the place it was July and the AC was probably tuened off it was HOT!!! Server did not care for tip for he was tired and grumpy. Order a $12 + appetizer, that when it arrived we all were shocked 1 Nacho 2 Tiny quesadillas and 2 extra tiny flautas. Have had much better for less money. Our beers were given to us OPEN and mid FULL!!!!!, I ordered the ALAMBRES a $22.00 + plate. I could not beleive it, It was rice from a BOX undercooked, and the Alambres were a mix of meat and shrimp with ""chorizo"" and onions. I COULD HAVE MADE THAT AT HOME!!!!! Was NOT IMPRESSED at all with the food or service. It is over priced, the only thing that saves this place is the Band and their Salsa Classes, other than that IT sucks !!!!! This is the real deal mexican restaurant. The salsas give it away and the sampler appetizer was proof. Most places in Dallas are Tex-Mex but only some few can distinguish between whats real and whats not. I started with the fresh margarita which was refreshing and its the only way to go. My meal was the Alambres and it was amazing. This dish has to be on the greatest foods i have ever ate. I got to enjoy the mavericks game on what looked like a 200 in screen. I will definitely be back. more

I just ate here for the first time yesterday, and was thrilled to find such good Mexican food. In a state overrun with taco stands and mediocre tex-mex joints, this place stands out as an excellent reminder that Mexican food can be sophisticated, powerful, and a little exotic. The pollo con mole poblano has a great twist and is a *must* for fans of ""Mexico's national dish"". The atmosphere matches the food (though there are a few extraneous ""modern"" touches) and creates a good space for one-on-one conversation or big groups. And the service was personable and quite helpful. The price is a little bit higher than I'd expect, but they offer a bunch of specials to bring it down a bit (also, there's a restaurant[.]com certificate that will save you $15). In short, this is on my list of favorites in the DFW area. I look forward to going again soon. Pros: Fresh, intricate flavors, and great service and environment. Cons: Too pricey for me to go weekly. more

We have been twice-once for their brunch (pretty good) with your choice of fruits, chorizo & eggs, coffee, juices, and a quesadilla station, and once for lunch- we were looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant- but this place is more Mexican fusion than traditional. Overall was good, but it wasn't all traditional Mexican fare. more
