Editorial review from GrubHub 9/14/2013

We actually love this place, but we hate that you are forced to add on rice to every meal at a cost of almost $4 extra per meal. First of all, the rice provided is not worth $4.. it is more like $1, and secondly, we don't eat rice!!! So we are forced to pay $4 extra for each meal and we don't even want it. This is so annoying that we actually adjust our tip for it because it is money we would not have spent on our meal.. and we spend a lot here each month because the curries are very good. Please give us an option to order without rice!! more

What a service! Worse place ever! It was my first time. I walked into this restaurant for take outs. While I was asking some questions to the waiter, he smells alcohol. The waiter was DRUNK. I just walked out from this restaurant. I was told this place is under new management and have a good food, but I will never go back again. Pros: waste of time Cons: worse place ever! more

New Management, New Cuisine, New Prices 2/21/2008

New management recently took over this restaurant. The customer service is a lot better but the food quality has slipped plus they have raised the prices. I used to go here on a fairly regular basis but I am less likely now with the new management. There are much better Indian restaurants in the area such as Red Fort and Angara Indian Restaurant. Pros: Good customer service Cons: Sub-standard, unauthentic food more

Good Example of a Neighborhood Family Indian Restaurant 9/5/2007

As an Indian who has probably eaten in over 500 Indian restaurants worldwide, I can say I disagree with the prior reviewer. This Nothern Indian restaurant will not be confused with some of the best that I've eaten in but it is far from poor. Favorites such as tikka masala, chicken tandoori, daal and naans were well prepared. For the more divergent types, I would try shahi paneer, bhindi masala, or the fish tandoori. Shahi paneer is a dish made from homemade cheese. Their cheese texture was a perfect consistency. It was not like fried tofu in some places nor was it the beaded ricotta type you find in others. I like it with a slightly sweeter taste so I asked for extra cashews and raisins.Kabab Curry's chicken tikka masala recipe contains a little more cream so it's richer and more filling. It was well prepared for this type of style. The tikka was not dried out and was real tikka. Many places try and save money by using inferior cuts of meat. My belief is that tikka (small cuts) must be done from the breast of the chicken not a thigh or back. This restaurant adheres to this ideal. The restaurant utilizes different fish on different days in their tandoori fish. I like it when they use catfish because this type of fish stands up more to the intense heat of the tandoor and the oilyness of it produces a great taste/texture. The most important thing in tandoori cooking is not to overcook and Kabab Curry did not so it was not dry. Pros: good lunch buffet Cons: little pricey at dinner time more

Avoid 9/2/2007

My husband and I have been in the restauranat business for over 12 years and love trying different, exotic and exciting foods from around the world and suppoting owner-operated restaurants. We live in the area nearby and we used to be regulars at Kabab Curry and the food was always very good especially the Saag Paneer. Unfortunately the restaurant has been sold recently and is now under new ownership & management. We have since gone back a few times and I must say that we are extremelly disappointed. We were craving Indian food again and went there for dinner last night. We ordered vegetarian samosas, garlic bread, the baigan bharta and saag paneer. The vegetarian samosas were very small in size compared to what you get at other Indian restaurants and had absolutely no flavor. It also arrived at our table in just a few minutes after we placed our order, leading us to believe that they were heated in a microwave. Once we tried we noticed that the crust was lacking the usual crispiness of a good samosa. The Saag Paneer was good however the Baigan Bharta was extremelly salty. We hoped for a waiter to come check on us so we could mention how bad the dish was. Sadly, no one ever checked on our table. When we were leaving and asking for the check, we were finally able to complain to the waiter who apologized and said that it will not happen again (but who is to say?). The new owner, who was on premises, never came to our table to apologize and did not take the Baigan Bharta (which was so bad we could not eat at all) off of our bill. Before we left we heard the party seating next to us complaining that the rice they had been served tasted like ""fridge"" and was unnaceptable. For the price they charge you would expect much better food and better service. If they continue this way, they will loose the clientele that the first owner was able to build and who has been supportive of the new owners 'till now. Needless to say that we are never going back. Run - don't walk. Cons: Slow Service/Small Portions/Expensive for what you get more

Great food... a little pricey but great service 5/16/2007

the food here is very good and I pride myself in trying every Indian restaurant that I see. It is a little pricey compared to others in the South Bay but friendly and great service. Not a 'romantic' place for a date. But if your goal is good food - this is a good option. more

Best Indian Restaurant, Great Vegetarian Options 6/19/2006

The food here is fabulous! I am confused by the reviewer who says there are no vegetarian options. I am a vegetarian, and this is arguably one of the best Indian restaurants in L.A....period. My favorite dishes are vegetable korma, saag paneer and baigan bharta. The service is friendly, but not always fast. In fact, you will probably have to flag someone down to tell them you need more water. However, the food is always amazing. I have suggested this restaurant to many people and none of them have been disappointed. Try it and discover delicious, authentic Indian food at its best. more

Plenty for vegetarians 1/19/2006

I'm thinking that last reviewer doesn't know how to read a menu. The following are available vegetarian dishes: Baingan Bartha, Malai Kofta, Bhindi Masala, Dam Alu, Vegetable Korma, Vegetable Jalfarezi, Shaki Paneer, Alu Matter, Saag Paneer, Mutter, Paneer, Mushroom Mutter, Alu Gobi, Alu Saag, Channa Masala,, Daal Makhani. This is just from the Vegetable section, to this one can add Naan, Biryani, soup, salad, Raita. Honestly I don't understand where that senseless last review is coming from. They probably had one bad experience and are trying to ""get even"". Whatever... This place is great for vegeatarians and meat eaters alike. It is easily among the best Indian food in the South Bay. The ambience may be stark but the food more than makes up for it. My only complaint is that when it gets busy the servers can get swamped. Pros: Great food more

This place is not a great place! 2/12/2005

This place is not a good restraunt for the vegetarians. For them, there was nothing much to eat. No desserts and no fruits for all you can eat buffet. The service sucks. You had to ask for almost everything. P.S. WARNING: If you want good Indian food don't come here. Go somewhere else. Overall, this place is not recommendable. Pros: good food Cons: service, value more

Ridiculously overpriced! 8/17/2004

The food here is not bad but choice of dishes for all-you-can-eat buffet ($ 8.95)is very limited, lacking any kind of appetizers, samosas, pakoras etc. Those are extra as well as indian tea with milk which is $1.95 per small cup. I know many other indian all-you-can-eat places which have much better selection and cost much less. The owners probably think Torrance is Beverly Hills...I am not going there again. Pros: food, decor Cons: , selection more
