Bad food and Bad response 9/10/2011

My takeout Sweet and Sour Chicken had virtually no chicken in it - it was mostly dried out skins and batter. I call back and they promise to make me another one with meat in it, but it still does not. The guy handing me the food opens up the container and breaks open a piece and sure enough nothing but the batter. Then someone else, a manager?, comes out and opens up another piece and finds a dried piece of skin sliver. He didn't apologize. The sauce which was in a separate container smelled fowl and the pineapple tasted like it was rotten. I don't expect them to put the best quality chicken breast meat in their food, but I did expect to find some chicken meat in there somewhere. more

Horrible Manager Vo 8/16/2011

Today is the last time I try to give this place a chance, due to their bad Manager..Over the past three years I have dropped in alone and with others, and I am the only stubborn hold out in the bunch..The Manager Vo is a egotistical and arrogant Man and the two do not belong together when You are running a Restaurant..He comes off as evn tepng within te Restaurant that You have bothered him and put him out..Unless I hate to say You are Asian, and then he seems to give a warm Welcome..I have come in only to have others that are after me that are Asian be seated and their take out orders taken first while there are many seats available and I stand there looking like a fool..Today being the last, as I walked out without anything for the last time..Funny thing is he Shows he could care less that he lost Your business, nor could care less that You even came in, in the first place...I wonder if the Owners knw what a Jerk they have hired and all of the Business they losedue t this unfriendly Manager..He could care less and it shows..Other than that eating in with Friends and Family, they come around and ask over and over before You even get a chance to enjoy what You just chose..Manager has taken my take out orders with his chip on his shoulder and I have gotten all the way home on the Max and Bus and everytime my order has been wrong..Too bad that if they wuld get friendlier Wait Staff an Management their business would go through the roof....Until then, save Your $$$$$$ and go somewhere else more

Terrible! 7/30/2011

It is very rude and weird that the manager refuses to let my husband and my 18-year-old boy and me in, just because I am holding a glass of baby formula milk in my hand. He says no outside food! I understand what is normally meant when restaurant says no outside food; however, this is baby formula milk. It is a terrible experience! more

Don't know why there's a ton of bad reviews... 9/10/2010

I really disagree with all the negative comments. I've been going to the Jin Wah near the Beaverton TC since 2007 and the service has always been amazing. Some of the best tasting Chinese and Vietnamese food. Their dimsum is amazing, a little spendy, but so worth it. If you're sick, try one of their pho bowls. It has refreshed me on numerous occasions after eating. I also recommend their salt and pepper squid. SOOO AMAZING! more

Very bad service! 5/6/2010

We use to always go there until one day. My husband and I decided to go during lunch. Wasn't too busy. We had to wait as least 10 mins to get sit. Took them forever to take our order. When we finally got our food, all the staff was waiting over our shoulders like they wanted us to hurry up and eat then leave. The service was so bad we decided not to leave a tip. At the time when we payed the cashier, another employee asked to see if we left a tip in chinese, and the cashier replied ""no"" in chinese. Hello we may not chinese but we may understand. After that we decided never to go there again and it's been a couple of years. We found a better place in Hillsboro. The Portland restaurant is the same! BE AWARE! DON'T EVER WASTE YOUR MONEY THERE! Pros: pho Cons: Everything else.... more

Excellent dim sum, hot, but a bit spendy 2/8/2010

You know when a place is filled with the same ethnic customers as the food it's serving, the food will most likely be good. I was skeptical about it, due to the location, but decided to give it a try. Based on the poor reviews the others gave it, I can only guess that they have completely changed the way they do things. As a Chinese person who has grown up knowing good Chinese food, I can honestly say our dim sum was on par with some of the best we have had, even when comparing to areas near Vancouver Canada. All dishes were steaming hot and fresh, and the turnip cakes and steamed bows were some of the best I've ever had. I read one of the other reviewers who said the servers english was not very good and made that sound so horrible. While our servers had poor english, they were very friendly and patient while we ordered. Come on, if you go into an ethnic restaurant, don't you want real people of that ethnicity? I do. All in all, we really enjoyed our lunch. I was a bit surprised at the $76 bill, which included 3 adults and 2 small children. After tip, we walked out at $86. For our family at least, that is a spendy lunch. $10-12 maximum per person is a luxury for us. Anyway, don't be turned off by the other reviews, or at least give it a shot yourself. I normally go across town to Wong Kings, but this was closer and the food hotter. As far as cleanliness goes, we are neat freaks and hate dirty joints, and found this place very clean. Pros: Very hot and fresh, friendly, good selection Cons: a bit pricey for dim sum more

Bad Hygiene Standard. Be Prepared For Food poisoning 1/12/2010

The first thing I notice after entering the restaurant is the air inside is a little smelly at certain spots. And the spoons and forks they put on table didn't seem to be that clean. I should have had left it right way. But I didn't, which proved to be a terrible mistake. After dinnng out at Jin Wah with my family last Saturday, both I, my wife and my mom got food poisoning sympotom. I vomitted 6 times from 9am to 2pm with my body trembling and also had diarhea frequently was so weak afterward that I have to stay bedresting for two days. My mom had the similar sympotoms for two days. Thank God, my daughter was fuzzy during dinner and didn't eat much. Pros: Quite a few selection in Menu Cons: Bad Hygiene Standard, Food poisoning more

Very Disappointed 12/10/2009

This was the worst restaurant dining experience we have had in years....not only was the service bad (nobody understood english) but the General Tso's and Garlic Spareribs were almost unedible. Will never go back. Cons: everything more

Don't bother 12/8/2009

If you KNOW dim sum, this is horrible. If you don't, it's still horrible because you will never know what REAL dim sum tastes like. Take the time to travel to the east side of Portland and get a real Dim Sum meal. Pros: Convenient Cons: Awful and greasy food more

Excellent Food 10/19/2009

I have eaten here three times now, and found the food quite good each time. Many of the employees speak little English, but enough to get the order right. There is one waiter who is quite surly, but it is well worth his coarse personality to get at the food. Pros: unique fried rice Cons: sometimes surly waiter more

Super Soup, Bad Water 1/1/2009

My family and I are regulars at this restaurant, mostly because of their delicious Pho soups. They are priced right and are the perfect fix for cold and rainy Oregon days, fast too! We occassionally order from their ""regular entree"" menu, but service is spoty, you may get one dish only to receive the second and third 15 minutes later. Now that most of the staff know us they are nicer, but if they don't know you, you will get the rather impersonal stereotypical asian attitude. My main complaint about this place is their water, it is AWFUL!!!!! Bring your own, or plan on buying soda....I often wonder if they do it on purpose to get you to buy drinks. It taste like formaldihyde (if that is how you spell it) and bleach, I am surprsed that this is an ongoing problem and that is doesn't get fixed. My absolute fave is the Sate beef soup bowl. Pros: great soup, plenty of parking, no waiting Cons: water, inconsistant service more

Horrible service and even worse food 5/23/2008

I would never recommend Jin Wah's to anybody. We went to this place to try a new asian restaurant since the one's we've been to were great (ie Zab thai, pho hung, thai derm, hong kong 97...). We ordered a salad roll, chicken chow mein and the chicken trio, which came with lemon, cashew nut, and general tsao's chicken. The food was tasteless, oily, fatty, salty (outright disgusting). Seriously, how do you mess up on a salad roll or even general tsao's chicken? Pros: Spacious Cons: Service, food - oily, fatty! more

When it is good, it is very, very good, but when it is bad, it is horrid. 2/9/2008

Overall Jin Wah is a great place to enjoy some Asian food in a casual and relaxed atmosphere with plenty of tables and space. They are also open later then most restaurants in Beaverton. While most of the staff speaks little English and can sometimes come across as a bit abrupt during rush hours or on the phone while taking to go orders, they are friendly and efficient. The owner is a familiar face on the floor as he chats with his regulars and checks to make sure you are enjoying everything. I would definitely say they are a bit more attentive to their regular customers so becoming a familiar face will only enhance your experience. Now, the food. Talk about inconsistent. The only thing really consistent about the food is that it tends to be a bit oily, so ask for no oil. (If you ask for no oil, you will still have oil in the dishes; unless you ask for steamed.) However, I still gave Jin Wah high marks because the dishes that are good are positively delicious- plus the dim sum at lunch is delectable. With dishes you haven't ordered before, either split with a friend to see if you like them or try the lunch menu for smaller portions and lower prices. It is best to build a core list of dishes that are consistently delicious, then experiment with different dishes here and there. I would like to recommend a few dishes my boyfriend and I enjoy. The salad rolls are far superior to any we have ever had and are extraordinarily delicious. They are light and refreshing, yet can fill you up. The wonton soup is amazing--rich chicken broth with delicious and plentiful wontons. P_tstickers are very good, but what you expect from a good Asian restaurant. The #702, Noodle Soup, is flavorful and filling, but order the EGG NOODLES, NOT the rice noodles. The Scallop and Eggplant Clayp_t is divine--one of my favorites. Pros: variety, dim sum at luch, salad rolls, parking, casual atmosphere, inviting, space, Cons: inconsistant dishes, oily, heavy more

Good and Cheap 5/13/2007

Wide selection of dishes, not the best chinese I've had but better than a lot of restaurants out there. The staff is quick and attentive, and food, once ordered, comes out in a steady stream. Good quality for your money. Pros: Quick service and delivery Cons: Some generic dishes, not a place to take a date. more

Great Food - and even better Calamari !!! 3/5/2007

I was in on Saturaday and had the Pepper Salted Squid and the Tofu Claypot and it was delicious!!! The waitress also recommended something call fish maw soup, and so we ordered that too. It was a busy night so there was a little wait for the food but well worth it. I heard they have dim sum during the day and am really exicted to try it out. Pros: parking, food Cons: busy place more

Dirty Restaurant, beware!! 2/6/2007

This restaurant is dirty and serves old food. Their staff is rude. Other than the relatively low prices, i would not reccomend Jin Wah. I have order several entrees with other foods stuck to the side of the plates. Then, i have had dirty spoons and forks given to me. When asking for a replacement, the staff was exceptionally rude; like they were being bothered and did not want to help us. Pros: cheap food Cons: dirty, rude staff, old food more

Wah, Just Ok 12/29/2006

If you happen to be in the area, its not a bad place to enjoy a nice group meal or cheap eats in Vietnamese / Chinese fashion. The Dim Sum is supposed to be pretty decent, but my experiences here have all been average at best. Pros: Variety, Prices, Service, Ambiance Cons: Food (at times) more

Authentic. Best in Beaverton. 10/26/2006

The new location is pretty nice, and the kitchen problems associated with the move seem to be a thing of the past. My wife, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law, (all born in Taiwan and raised in Asia), insist that this is the best, most authentic Chinese available in Beaverton. If out-of-town relatives are visiting, this resturant is *always* on the itinerary. more
