Poor service, stingy!!! 8/24/2010

I have been to this place multiple times. Was disappointed every time I went there. Food is OK, not the best. Too greasy. The sides are REALLY small portions. For the amount they charge they are really stingy. Service is EXTREMELY slow. To get your drink refilled you need to come up to the counter because most of the time no one is waiting on you. more

Delightfully delicious. 5/28/2010

Many years ago my car broke down in front of this little hidden cafe during the heat of the summer. I went inside to get a drink while waiting for tow truck... I was immediately greeted by some-of the most friendly people I have ever met. Before I knew it I was sampling some of the most delicious dinners.. That was all it took! I went back that evening for dinner and from then on it was a weekly treat for several years. Since then I have moved to Hillsboro, but when asked where I would like to have dinner.. I always tell them Vancouver, Jerusalem Cafe. I can not count how many time I have taken friends and family there. And everyone of them just loves it. I will admit I am partial to the original location on Evergreen, even though the building and decor are simple and sparse. I haven't yet been to Battleground location, just too far for me, and the Chakolov location just didn't feel the same to me. So whats good to order? EVERYTHING. My fav is the Jerusalem Special, no.. its the Chicken on Fire.. no its the Falafal.. no wait... its the shinitzel... ok ok its the entire menu... turkish coffee and baklava is great too. Dont let the outside fool you... walk in take a seat and enjoy Pros: Flavorfull and Friendly Cons: I wish they'd opened one in Portland more

This is my favorite Mediterranean restauraunt in the Portland area 2/24/2008

The owners of this place are characters, but man can those guys cook. All the dishes are from scratch...\r \r Chicken Shwerma is grub, everything is good. I always get the Mezza Platter though. The humuos, tahini, and falafal are so freaking good! Pros: great food Cons: its in Vancouver more

Good food 11/19/2006

The food here takes me back to my trip to Israel. It is reasonably priced and really good. I'm pretty sure that this is one of the only places in town where I can get a kafta kabob, and other mediterrean eats. I love this family run resturant the staff is friendly and the prices are not that bad. For under $20 for two people depending on what you order you can't beat that. \r \r more

Good for Vancouver 8/17/2006

I've lived in Vancouver most of my life and love it dearly. But let's face that we aren't culinary-ly advanced. Jerusalem cafe is a great restaurant for Vancouver, we all know we need a little more diversity food wise! But, sadly this is not near the best mediterranean. Everything is good, you won't be disapointed, but the hummus is a little bland, falafal not the best and the service very inconsistent. The owner and his family compose the entire staff. Sometimes they ignore you and sometimes they won't get out of your face. It is annoying and unromantic to me to be have someone with their hands on the table leaning in your face, talking loudly the whole night telling you what you look like or what you should be doing. Othertimes you can be starving and not get any attention until you think you are going to pass out. Also, water is straight from the tap, so if that bothers you, order a drink. If I am staying in Vancouver, I eat here or Galilee Cafe (better), but if I want excellent mediterranean food, I go to La Villa. Pros: One of very few like this in Vancouver, pretty good food Cons: Bland hummus, sometimes very bad service, not so great atmosphere more

Yummy food 5/10/2005

Each time I eat at Jerusalem Restaurant I get the Mazza Platter, which is really good!! I just wish the pita bread that they serve was fresh and made there, instead of store bought. I've been to both locations- the one on Evergreen St. and the other is out in Cacade Park. The family that owns the restaurant is nice and friendly and the one guy always know what I order. This is one of the best mediterrian restaurants I've been too! When I order takeout it's always seems like less then 10 minutes. Pros: friendly straf, great food, inexpensive Cons: nothing bad at all! more

Delicious food, prepared well w/helpful staff. 3/8/2005

My husband and I went for my birthday and had a blast. The food was top notch, very authentic and tasty. I've had lots of middle eastern food and this is some of the best. I've had great luck with them doing take out, but it's a fun place where the staff remembers you and treats you like family. Worth the trip from PDX. Pros: appetizers, lots of parking, cozy Cons: not fancy, limited wine more

One of the Best in the WORLD 8/22/2003

You can see by my past reviews, I am an admitted ""foodie"". I have eaten at many of the most famous restaurants in the USA. I'm telling you, this place, the Jerusalem Restaurant, has some of the most delicious food I have ever tasted anywhere, hands down! Their garlic lemon chicken is the most delicious chicken I have ever tasted. Their lamb shish kabob tasted better than lamb I have paid 5 times more for, and the thing is, it would not even be close! This place rocks. Go eat there now! No, I am not related to the owners. Pros: chicken, lamb, free appetizers!, kick back setting more

Great Middle Eastern food--and more 10/15/2002

The Jerusalem Cafe is about more than food; it's an experience. Don't get me wrong; the food is fantastic. Their chicken shawarma is some of the best I've ever had. But the wait staff is quirky, and they're likely to tell you what you might like to eat--even if they've never met you before. My first time there, I asked if there were apartments available nearby because I wanted to live downtown. They explained where all the nearby apartments were, then called their friends to find someone who was renting. Before I left, they had arranged an apartment viewing for me. Amazing!! A truly great neighborhood restaurant, in the classic sense, with amazing Middle Eastern food at a great price. It's everything I need. more
