Worst service ever. 1/9/2010

I have been going to Pig Iron for years and I am finally fed up with the place. I am telling you-- their service is the WORST in town. The wait staff are always rude and the food takes way way too long. I don't know why they keep all these ill-mannered servers on the payroll. Why? My server last night insulted me for no reason and then 'forgot' our table to flirt with a chubby brunette for ten minutes. Geez. Then our food took 40 minutes to come out and he wound up getting my order wrong. I wish I could say this was the first time I have had service this bad at Pig Iron, but no I can't! Please don't go there. Hoggy's is just as good and they actually know how to treat a customer right. Pros: Halfway decent food. Cons: Awful service. more

Tasteless BBQ if you can call it that, 5/2/2008

Just went to this place because of a half price coupon I got. Well, we went on a friday evening and was seated promptly. Drink order was taken quickly and recieved quickly. We ordered chicken wing appetizer. We then ordered two BBQ samplers, I ordered 1/2 slab of smoked ribs and 1/2 chicken with baked beans and mac & cheese. He ordered 1/2 slab of baby back ribs and pulled pork with coleslaw and steak fries. Ok, so the wings came and they looked like someone had allready eaten off of them. We questioned this and was told that they all look this way. We tried them and they were very dry and crunchy. The sauce was OK. Our main order came and we dug right in cause it looked very good. BAD decision. The food was not seasoned at all. His ribs were an odd color of beige. My ribs looked so good but the sauce had no taste at all. The chicken was also lacking in the taste department. His pulled pork was burnt and needed a ton of hot sauce to even make it edible. Normally we will clean our plates but we just asked for a box and packed it up for our dog. The price tag even after the discount half price coupon came to $32.00 Please save yourself and go somewhere else. Save your money and your stomach. Pros: Seated quickly Cons: Food lacks taste more

amazing pulled pork barbecue 1/1/2008

first, i never take the time to write reviews, but the record needs to be set straight. i'm a barbecue fanatic, and the pig iron has consistently the best pulled pork i've had in my entire life. I've eaten barbecue around the entire United States, and the pig iron can not be beat for their pulled pork. The restaurants ribs and brisket are ok, but the pulled pork is off of the charts. Although the service i've experienced has been good, I could give a sh*t because the pulled pork is so good. I also like the homemade BBQ sauce. Pros: pulled pork barbecue Cons: non more

Below average food, worse service 11/20/2007

BBQ expert. Been in many competitions, and own my own smoker. First visit on a Saturday mid-afternoon...not busy at all. Seated promptly, but then waited for 10 minutes before we where greeted, and ordered our crab cake appietizer, and drinks. Waited another 10 minutes before before the waiter returned to take our meal order. I got a brisket sandwhich, and she got a pulled pork sandwhich. We then waited another 10 minutes before someone other than our server brought the crabcakes. The crabcakes were dry and room tempature. It was obvious they were ""sitting"" somewhere for a while. Another 15 minutes had passed, when again, someone other than our server (and the other guy) brought out our meals. The cole slaw and pickles were warm, and both our sandwhiches were luke room. It was obvious they had sat under the heat lamps for some time. The brisket was so dry, it had to be drowned in sauce to get down. Her pork was so fatty, she had to pick off over half of it...it was the worst pulled pork Ive ever seen or tasted. We also had to wait for an inordinate amount of time for refills. There was a coulpe seated behind us, who had came in 10 minutes after use, and was able to leave 15 minutes before us. Add the fact that they are sort of pricey, I cant recommend this place. Take your money to Hoggy's or City BBQ for MUCH better que. Pros: Authentic BBQ joint decor Cons: bad food, worse service, high prices more

Worst Barbecue I've Ever Had!!! 3/1/2007

First, I only went to this place because of the rave reviews from this site. I am new to the Columbus area and was dying for some good BBQ. I went in for take-out and the service was good. The bartender offered me a free soda while I waited for my order. It took about 10-15 for my order which was okay. I ordered bbq chicken, full slab St Louis ribs, collard greens, fries, onion rings, mash potatoes, cornbread ($26.98). This restaurant is about 20 minutes from my home so by the time I got home and looked at my order it was about 30 later. The meat was BURNT - BIG TIME!!! Both the chicken and the ribs was obviously burnt. It looked and tasted like the meat was old and they tried to re-heat it by placing it back on th grill. Instead of collard greens, they gave us green beans. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were made from a box. And they served it with no gravy - just plain potatoes. Maybe that's a local thing. The cornbread was dry and even after we warmed it up and added butter it tasted old. The only thing that was good was the onion rings and fries. Pros: Wait staff seemed nice but still served bad food Cons: Served obviously burnt meat more

Wonderful Brisket 2/26/2007

This is the first time that I have written a review, so I hope that I am able to do this restraunt justice. My husband and I went to Pig Irons for lunch and although we spent a little more than I would like for lunch I think it was well worth every penny. We ordered fried pickles and corn and crab cakes as appetizers, the only complaint I had was the crab cakes were a little small, but VERY good. I wasn't a huge fan of the fried pickles, but for being fried pickles they were the best I have had ( my husband loved them). I did think it took a little longer than neccasary to bring our appetizers. We ordered the combo platter for our main course and shared it, we had baby back ribs, brisket, fat back green beans, sweet potatoe fries (YUM and I din't normally like sweet potatoes), and a extra order of mashed potatoes ( I didn't care much for those). Our waitress was fabulous, even the other waitress stopped to check on us a few times. Everyone was extremely friendly, and the food was VERY good, I will go back for sure! Pros: The sweet potatoe fries and the Brisket YUMMMO more

Very Tasty BBQ! 1/15/2007

The BBQ was very tasty and the servings were quite generous. The meat is served without sauce, allowing the diner to add one of two sauces offered at the table. One is a sweet, smokey BBQ sauce and the other a more vinegar/hot pepper sauce . Both were quite good. While our server did not offer a children's menu to our 9 year-old, we picked up a carryout menu on the way out and they do have one, so just ask! We will be back to dine at Pig Iron! Pros: Good pulled pork, brisket. Great BBQ joint atmosphere! more

Pretty good. 8/26/2006

I wasn't as blown away by the Pig Iron as I had expected, although my experience was soured by the fact that a rather long hair was found entwined in our brisket. (We promptly threw the disgusting string of meat onto a nearby empty table, and, judging from the disturbingly casual staff attitude, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it remains there.) Questionable sanitation aside, the Pig Iron has a variety of options, with noteworthy babyback ribs and decent lamb. The prices are also quite reasonable given the sizable portions of food. While my initial experience with this BBQ joint hasn't left me begging for more, I'm confident that a second visit will provide the restaurant with redemption. Pros: Ribs, price, menu selection Cons: Questionable sanitation more

Down to earth, GREAT old country BBQ! Laidback atmosphere with a ""regulars"" feel! 6/22/2006

Pig Iron is a surprise in the rough! Tucked in on High St. between Clintonville and Worthington this place is definitely worth a try. Though the name sounds a bit rough, like a biker bar, its really a comfortable place with exceptional burgers and ribs. They have a nice southern BBQ menu, with many deep south favorites: fatback green beans, BBQ baked beans, cornbread, and maque croix (which is a spicy corn side common in cajun regions). The servers have always been wonderful to us, and with a full service bar, option of indoor or outdoor seating, some TVs in the bar area for sports fans, and excellent food this place can be alot of things which appeal to alot of people. Their menu is fairly well balanced with a good amount of appetizers (I like the fried mushrooms or the wings), they also offer larger salads for those interested in lighter fare (I like the Iceburg Wedgie topped with crumbles of real bacon, diced tomatoes and blue cheese), and while their entrees do lean toward southern BBQ cuisine their is enough diversity for all with delicious country fried steak, pulled pork, steaks, ribs, and burgers. If you like good burgers and a well rounded full menu and bar, you should head on over to Pig Iron. more

Best barbecue in Columbus 6/4/2006

Everything that places like Hoggy's are not are what make Pig Iron the best in town. They actually know that it's the meat, not the sauce, that makes the barbecue tasty and appetizing. These guys know how to smoke meat, and they do it to perfection every time. Their sauces are a good combination of Texas and St. Louis style, but they don't rely on the sauce to cover the so-so meat. In fact, you don't even NEED sauce for Pig Iron's meat - it speaks for itself. Their pulled pork is to die for and their brisket is the cream of the crop. Their sides are also good - real picnic-style fare for real barbecue. Pros: Great meat, Easy to Get To, Plenty of Parking more

Great except for the service 12/26/2005

The restaurant is placed in a old fast food joint. Decorated like a BBQ place should be. Food was outstanding. Brisket Chili, Fried Pickles, and Full Rack BBQ Babyback(once it was reheated). Best fried pickles I have had. Service was horrible, young kid, very slow. Everyone was helping him do his job. Recommend but ask for a older server. Pros: Food, Food, Food Cons: Server more

Good Eats 11/27/2005

Forget all the chain BBQ places. Pig Iron has the best flavored food. Try the 1/2 smoked chicken, the deep fried pickles and the mushrooms. Also, they have a chili mac dish that is to die for! Do yourself a favor, run don't walk to Pig Iron. Pros: Good Parking, Inexpensive, Large Portions Cons: Waiting time more

Variety is the Spice Rub of Life! 6/1/2005

From the variety of appetizers to the main courses, just a great barbecue spot. Ribs are some of the best ever. Pulled pork, brisket, lamb, all terrific. And much better than the other barbecue chain in the city. Side dishes are original and outstanding. And a great bar to boot. Thumbs up on the deep-fried pickles! more

Worth a try! 9/9/2004

Believe it or not, this is one of the top 5 places we have found for fish and chips in Columbus! Their combo with ribs and lamb is awsome too. Be prepared for not real comfortable seating and lots of old stuff on the walls to look at. Everything we have tried is at least good, and somethings are very good. Pros: Fish and chips, ribs and lamb more
