If you love cantonese cuisine, New Hoi Fai restaurant is where you need to be if you're anywhere near the Milbrae area. We came here for lunch on a rainy Thursday and were blown away by the quality of the food. I am Cantonese myself and I assure you that the food here is right up there with the best and most authentic cantonese food I've had in America. The oysters we had were fresh and not oversteamed. The hot p0t lamb stew was superb as well. The steamed cod fish was cooked just right and tasted like frog legs in terms of taste and texture. The egg and pork porridge was also very satisfying and tasty without use of MSG. The fish stomach soup was superb as well. You have to try the yellow skin chicken with ginger and garlic, another hallmark cantonese cuisine. Prices here are very reasonable. We ordered pretty much the most expensive dishes and it came out to be about $21 per person for a party of 6. I didn't try the lunch specials, but based on the food quality of the regular menu, I'd have high expectations for the specials. The dining room is large and spacious and the there are many large tables for 6+. The few large Chinese style still-life and waterfall paintings give a nice serenity to the ambiance. The service was pretty good, but could've been even better given that we were the only people in the restaurant. The only thing I was dissatisfied with was the tea, which was watered down, but that's just being picky. Reservations might be necessary for dinner but not lunch. Summary: Great food; good value, and easy parking.
Pros: The superb authentic Cantonese style cuisine
Cons: Service a little slow and the tea was watered down
