Large Independent toy store recently expanded 8/26/2005

Kid's Paradise! This clean, bright and very large store is a treat for children and parents alike. Educational and classic toys predominate-- you will not find plastic junk here at all. Puzzles, art kits, pretend play, games, construction toys (playland, etc) and more more more! Prices are more than a modern toy store, but very fair for the high quality items that are offered. One thing i really like is that Growing tree will wrap your purchase free of charge. They will wrap ANYTHING -- including 5 dollar trinkets-- with a smile on their faces. The owner can seem slightly surly, but the employees are all really nice and friendly. more

"alternative" toys, but at a cost 8/11/2005

You are a "politically" conscious parent, and you don't want your kids to be playing with toys that promote violence, traditional gender roles, or couch potating. You want toys that stimulate imagination and will promote good mental development. Well, I'm not a child psychologist so I can't say whether the type of toys you find at Growing Tree or any number of places like it really do that for you. But I can say that you will not find your ordinary Barbie dolls or action figures here. Toys here can be elaborate or simple, and most of them do promote building or creativity. The prices are a bit high, but that is normal for stores of this type. What makes the store truly great is that you can go in and simply play with the toys, even if you don't have children yet, like me. more

Wonderful, Hands-On store with great selection 7/28/2005

Growing Tree Toys is a wonderful place to share with a toddler. My nephew (who is 2) just loved playing with everything there, and was fascinated by a train-set that is set -up for kids to play with. There is a wide range of toys, from building blocks to more complicated, computerized toys. They also carry Baby Einstein videos. The staff is helpful and cheerful, and the central downtown location makes for easy access and parking. more
