Went there last night with a group of six and everything was absolutely fantastic! It was a Sunday night so it was a very chill atmosphere. We ordered a few appetizers which cam...

Love the atmosphere. The wait staff is rude and unproffesional. The food needs a lot of work. Too bad as the Valley could really use a class act. If they do not improve the atti...

Original - People Like their work! 12/9/2004

Praise the skies for something unique... unlike so many other LA spots, Firefly treats you like family. The food and wine are great, they give you a solid value, the staff actually cares for you and the crowd is top notch! Make reservations though... like the LA freeways - there is only so much space. Firefly keeps it comfortable with a heartbeat! Pros: Service, Food&Wine List, Ambiance / Crowd Cons: , Parking more

A nice evening 9/10/2004

Reservations are king here. We were asked at the door by the bouncer and I had the impression that we would be turned away without them. Had to wait 15-20 min even though we had a reservation. The candlelit ambience is great but the noise level (music and people trying to talk over it) made for an interesting mismatch. Our service was excellent and the food good. We will be back, but maybe before dinnertime for wine and appetizers in the library bar. Pros: service, candlelit atmosphere, food Cons: , a bit pricy more

THE PERFECT EVENING... 8/24/2004

With no reservations (but it was early), Charley fit us in (it didn't hurt that my wife was dressed to the nines) to the best table in the house!! (back left corner). Amanda our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The drinks, appetizers (try the carmelized onion tart), salads, and entrees were perfectly prepared and served. After getting back into the car, the wife summed it up perfectly - ""WOW!!"" It was our first time, but I suspect we will soon be regulars... Pros: Service, Ambiance, Location more

whatever 6/12/2004

i guess the owner of firefly assumes that the majority of la people are short because they bought their dining furniture from a kindergarten garage sale. whoever wrote the menu did an exquisite job of describing what you WONT have, the $16 ""cheese platter"" is not a platter but a plate with three slices of cheese. the flat-iron steak was actually some kind of shredded beef in steak shape. its small size packed little flavor. i came home mad that i couldnt take the rest of my steak home and with a terrible back cramp. the ambiance, however, was immmaculately gorgeous with its high and pointy sky light ceiling and mountain greenery off to the side. in conclusion, go for drinks-the martinis were made to precise perfection and feel smart in the library lounge, but be wise enough to skip dinner; firefly doesnt offer cuisine worthy of rememberance. Pros: romantic, great drinks, great lounge Cons: , uncomfortable seats, unworthy food more

Great Value 6/3/2004

Chef Gary T. Menes has a passion for food and it shows. For the quality of food you get it's a fantastic value and the atmosphere on the patio is romantic and fun. If you're lucky you might run in to a celebrity. Pros: Value, Ambience Cons: , Not group conducive more

Chic Hideaway 5/28/2004

Behind the vine covered walls is this dimly lit hideaway. Enter at the bar and proceed to a library too dark for reading, but there is comfortable seating to enjoy a conversation over a drink or two. The back patio is the restaurant. The intimate booths along the wall offer a perfect setting for a romantic evening or a clandestine affair. The food is good, but the service and atmosphere make this place special. Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Privacy more

My new favorite place! 5/2/2004

I can't say enough about my experience at Firefly that going there two nights in a row doesn't say for me. LOVED IT! Romantic, hip, amazing food! I had the best steak I've had in my life! It's got it all! more

excellent night out 5/1/2004

Friendly (and pretty hot!) staff, fabulous appetizers and salads - make sure to get a salad with your meal, they have the most divine combinations - and the entrees come in just the perfect size and with just the right complement of vegetables. The fresh ravioli like pasta is a must-have as well. It's a little less crowded on the earlier dinner reservation, but if you can get one of the little hidden tables one step up from the main dining floor, it's like you're in your own private cove. Pros: excellent food, ambiance, charming staff more

excellent 4/28/2004

Packed but pleasant... wonderful ambience, from the bar area and library with its ability to say ""cozy"" amid a crowd of people... to the expansive dining room that can handle a small party to tables with more intimate settings for two, four or six. The meal my wife and I had was spectacular, and the wine list was large enough and eclectic enough to find a selection to fit any palate. We allowed the maitre d' to choose for us and the choice was perfect. All in all, a wonderful evening. Pros: excellent food, excellent wine, excellent ambience more

Circus Like Chic ??? 2/5/2004

Restaurant's concept is an interesting attempt of a circus feel with minimalist look . There are many good items on the menu, but overly priced and lack of presentation. Pros: greeted by owner Cons: service, alluring food, expensive more

Great time! 11/18/2003

We had no reservations and came by at 9:30pm on a Saturday night. Everyone was very accommodating, from the valet to the doorman to the hostess. We got a great table and wonderful service. The food was great. I guess is pays to be nice at the door. I would go again in a heartbeat. Pros: atmosphere, valet Cons: hard to find more

Rude Staff! 11/10/2003

I used to LOVE this place, but over the past few months something has changed. The bouncers are incredibly rude. If you want to just stop by and have a drink and appetizers, it's nearly impossible to get in. You can't order shots. I will say the bartenders were very friendly. But my last experience there was sooooo bad, I don't want to go back. I like frequenting bars and restaurants that actually WANT my business. more

My Favorite Place 11/5/2003

Firefly is SO great! As for food, my personal favorite has to be the wonderful and inexpensive cheese plate and having the filet for dinner. The food is phenomenal and the service is great. Our server was very educated on the food and wine list making our experience unforgettable. The atmosphere is very unique for LA. Before we sat down for dinner we enjoyed drinks in the sheik library/lounge. The mood was romantic and upbeat. It was also great that it was not jam packed with people and there was space to lounge and enjoy your surroundings. The door host has a tough job but I am glad they keep the occupancy comfortable. I love that you can visit Firefly for either a romantic dinner or to meet old friends. It is a great place to stop for drinks and to have a full course, tasty, meal! Pros: Food, Staff, Ambiance more

Bum rap 11/2/2003

I've read some of the other user reviews for Firefly and find the negative ones to be somewhat unfair, mostly speaking of a single incident in which the service was sub-par. Granted, service is important, but I stopped in for drinks one night last week and found the service to be top-notch. The bartenders actually know how to mix a drink, imagine that. How often have you stopped by some trendy bar to find cheezy, over-chatty bartenders who can't even do their job? Also, we ordered a few of the appetizers and they were all delicious. Love the atmosphere, crowded but still somehow intimate and, yes, warm. Also, the bartender revealed to me that the restaurant management is going through some sort of overhaul. Maybe these changes I noticed will be permanent. Pleasantly surprised... I'll be back for dinner next time. more

stay away fron the fire 10/24/2003

This place was LAME. Bad food, snobby staff, bad sevice, weak drinks need I say more to keep you from wasting your evening. STAY AWAY from this place like the plague. Cons: all more

The Best on the Blvd. 10/21/2003

Reading these reviews I wonder If they ate at the same restaurant. Food, service, decor are all great! Firefly is a target for abuse by the same type of people who take it personally when they cannot get in to a hot restaurant with no reservation. I have never been kept waiting for my reservation, all of my new guests have become customers themselves, whislt those trying to have bacherlorette parties, 21st Birthday Parties etc. or drink Jagermeister are nowhere to be seen. Pros: Romantic, Good Lighting, Comfortable more

Fire! Fire! 9/21/2003

This place was a tremendous flop! The service was so poor, with rude waitstaff and a nonchalant manager, that my friends and I wondered how it could still be open. Then we got our drinks tab! Who do they have back there making these drinks? The pretentious attitude of the whole staff, from the doorman to the manager was laughable. Nothing about this place is worth the attitude and ridiculous incompetence of the people who are running it. RUN, don't walk, from this ""night spot"". It's hot all right...it's one of the levels of Hell. Pros: close Cons: Service, Food, the rest of the place more

no class 8/17/2003

too bad that the doormen feel a need to exercise what little potency they have in the world harrassing customers. no class. many other bars/restaurants in l.a. earn their status honestly. this place could take a lesson, though it probably won't stick until they find themselves with an empty smoky room. Pros: nice space Cons: attitude of doormen, smoke everywhere, style without substan more

AWFUL!!! 8/13/2003

Went there last night for my wife's birthday and this place absolutely RUINED it. We had reservations at 8:30, but weren't seated until 9:15. By that time, we were starving, but our server didn't make her first appearance until 9:30! We ordered our meal and drinks, and a few minutes later the bread came (which was nothing but leftovers from Ralphs, based on the taste). Then around 10, our appetizers came, but still no drinks! The food was pretty good, but definitely not worth the horrific service and the terrible attitude. The meal was totally ruined! I would never, ever go there again. And there were so many smokers, it was hard to even breathe while we ate. Stay away from this place!!! Pros: Ambiance Cons: Overpriced, Horrible Service, Bad Attitude more

Vote With Your Feet 6/26/2003

And go to a nice restaurant instead. Nothing but clowns and poseurs. A bad attitude is fine if you've got something special - but in this case they're just snotty rich kids playing ""let's make a show"" with mediocre food, WAAAY overdone interior and dopey wait-staff not justifying the arrogance or incompetance. Pros: Close Cons: Close, Vile Attitude, Ordinary Food more
